Better than anticipated

Great UWS location--clean, comfortable, and quiet. Old building with character--it's not fancy nor pretending to be, but a great place to stay in the neighborhood. I wish they would get rid of the annoying and mandatory "facility fee" for wifi and housekeeping, and just raise the rate if they need to. Overall, fit the bill for being 5 blocks away from family, and I will be back.
A slightly average hotel with a "facility fee"

The Hotel Newton is an older hotel that could benefit from some cosmetic improvements. But, it was well kept and felt safe. It was fine for our multi-night stay. There was no street noise and the pillows were comfortable, which is unusual in my experience. The room had a small frig and was bigger than some rooms we have stayed at in NYC. There was no in-room coffee. There was hot water available for instant coffee and tea in the lobby ( and bananas). The staff were friendly and helpful. There is also a $20+ per night facility fee. For that, it seems we got 2 bottles of generic water when we got to our room (but not replaced in subsequent days)and Wi-Fi? They should just raise their rates rather than make one think you are getting something worthwhile for the additional fee. But, if you need a place to stay in the area, the Hotel Newton will be fine.
Great find in great location

We booked this hotel through American Express using travel rewards and we were pleasantly surprised! It is in a great location, close to the subway and lots of restaurants and shops. The hotel is very clean and comfortable and the room is quite large by NYC standards. The bathroom was all newly redone and quite nice. We will definitely stay again.
Dingy and unsafe location

My NYC friend who lives not too far, said she wanted to warn me that this area was unsafe. As a former New Yorker, I thought it had been cleaned up some, but when I arrived late at night, there was someone sleeping on the street next to the hotel and it was just a block that I didn't feel safe walking on alone at night. The front desk people were nice, but the room was dingy...old carpet, smelled of cleaning supplies and wasn't perfectly clean (not bad)...and small AC unit in the window hadn't been turned on so the room was hot. It did cool off quickly. The main thing is that it cost $289 dollars which was outrageously expensive for what you got.

This is a very clean hotel, and is very comfortable, from the beds to the sitting area. I love that there is a microwave and a refrigerator that actually keeps things cold! The staff is very helpful and friendly!
