First of all the room at the hotel was top draw, first class, super comfy, spotlessly clean, two double beds in the twin room. Brilliant bathroom, lovely shower and towels. No complaints there. The bar and eating experience less so. I was leader of a large group and we all had to put room numbers and food order for evening meal on a list, there was some mix up with the order and about 7 of us had the wrong meal made for us. We all make the mistakes and a good offer was made, 15% off the food if we eat what was made for us and 10% off drinks. Or they would make the original order but we didn't really want to wait again. Saying that the food was plentiful and very tasty. Bar staff were very good. We had 8 rooms and had booked golf at Celtic Manor too. Part of the deal was £20 off meals but everyone had the full price of food on the bill and for some reason if people had ordered drinks at the table it all appeared on my bill. To try and get 16 people and work out who had had what drinks the next morning would have been a nightmare. The bill did include the 15% discount for food but no discount for any of the drinks. The other bugbear is to pay nearly £200 for golf and hotel and then have to pay another £7.50 for the car park at the Coldra was a bit much. Such a shame about the ordering and billing otherwise a fab experience.

Prior to booking, we read the reviews, the majority being negative so we were apprehensive. I rang the hotel to voice my concerns and the lady I spoke to reassured us and was very helpful. We decided to book and i can only say what a lovely stay we had, they upgraded us free of charge to a larger room, the bed was so comfortable we had a lovely sleep. We did run out of coffee and milk in the room but you only have to go to reception and they happily provided us with replenishments. The bar area is clean and service is good, the only shock I had was paying for a Baileys which was £7.40, £4.30 in the pub down the road, but you stay in a hotel you expect hotel prices. We ate in the Restaurant, service and food was lovely. Some people were moaning about the tired furniture which yes, there is some furniture that needs to be addressed but this did not affect our stay. We booked in for a swim and sauna and again, nothing to fault, very relaxing. One thing I feel I need to say is the staff are fantastic, reception, bar, cleaners, waiters, etc, from the time we arrived until the time we left they were pleasant, helpful and couldnt have done any more. Very impressed. We had reason to leave earlier than expected and they arranged a takeaway breakfast for us, bacon sandwiches, croissants and orange juice. We travelled 3 and half hours to reach this hotel, will we be doing it again, definitely. I'm glad to say we didnt let the negative reviews stop us from staying here.
Fantastic stay, excellent value for money.

We stayed here on bonfire night. After reading all the previous reviews (after booking) we were a little apprehensive. We have stayed here previously on a few occasions, pre covid and enjoyed the hotel. We booked a bed, breakfast and evening meal package, and we didn't need to worry. Everything from a smooth and friendly check in, the room, use of the swimming pool, evening dinner at the Rib, pre and post meal drinks and smooth and friendly check out, everything was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the food was amazing and there was a friendly relaxed atmosphere around the bar area. We would definitely book again.
Lovely stay very covid safe

Lovely room, very clean. Staff could r do enough for you. Booked a swim with no problem and enjoyed a very quiet hour in the pool before breakfast. Breakfast was a served buffet due to covid but all very well organised and delicious. Would definitely stay again
Sneaky, devious charge

You only find out that even with a large car park, they charge you £7.50 a night to park when you arrive (not mentioned in the joining instructions). Dining in the restaurant, most staff wore masks, but not over their noses. When mentioned to a manager, some started to wear them properly, some when they came past our table and some did not change. They pretend to be taking COVID seriously, but they are not !!
