More about the hotel
Room was nice, but hotel had few masks and smelled of marijuana.
The room was quite nice and clean and I appreciated the shampoo, conditioner and soap dispensers in the shower. The price is reasonable. Breakfast is limited to to go bags and a few items in the “market” ie water bottle, juice bottle, and yogurt. In the bag was a banana or and orange and a muffin and granola bar. Later it became two packages muffins and a granola bar. The hotel was at times loud and it often smelled like marijuana in the hallways, the driveway and in the elevators. People very often wore no masks and there seemed to be little concern for Covid in the hotel.
Base Camp for a week
My travel companion and I booked this hotel and found it to be a very good choice. The Desk Staff was very friendly and professional. There were no coffee cups, coffee or creamers in the room as well as no hair drier. A simple call to the desk and that was resolved. When we left in the morning for a tour or just enjoy the city, we would ask for more coffee and when we returned, it was always waiting. The room was always cleaned and restocked when requested. Due to the virus, a grab and go breakfast was provided, but you could get waters, yogurts, and milk from the refrigerator case and cereal if desired. The room was a bit small with lack of drawer space and a lack of floor space around the king sized bed. The room had a desk and chair. There were plenty of charging ports and outlets. We would walk about a quarter of a mile to the nearest restaurant and Green Street Car Line. The French Quarter was about a third of a mile from the hotel. The room was quiet and the bed and the pillows were very comfortable.
Not great
We stay at IHC properties every year when we come to New Orleans and this was the worst. Just walking in the room didn't feel clean. I immediately Clorox everything to feel somewhat better. Due to Covid room cleaning was once every 5 nights. And there in lies the problem. On my 2nd night I opened the cabinet where the fridge and watched a roach scurry away. We were given a bag breakfast and after seeing the roach I made sure the trash went out. The trash can by the elevator was full which is because everyone was dumping the room trash there. I noticed that the full length mirror (which for some reason is on the far side by the window) wasn't clean either. But the roach invitation came from the floor at the headboard. Due to the design of the bed if there's anything that falls off the bed by the headboard it falls into a area that hasn't been cleaned in a while. I lost my flashlight that I keep under my pillow when traveling (didn't sleep by the nightstand) and discovered it along with food wrappers underneath the headboard on the floor. Thanks On a positive note the front desk staff were friendly and would always greet us upon arrival or when leaving the hotel. I'm going to stay at another IHG property on future visits. The location is great as we walk from there to the Superdome or to the French Quarter (15 minutes) very easily
Not helpful
Nobody went in to give us fresh towels or even toilet paper. We asked for lotion on our way out one day and the lady looked at us like we were crazy. We called to see if they can bring us up some toilet paper the said yeah you can come down and get some. Like what in the world.
Great Staff
So the staff was very friendly and accommodating. They made bagged to-go breakfasts due to COVID. The bags generally included a granola bar, an orange, a muffin, and the option of juice/milk, yogurt, and/or cereal. The beds are super firm. The showers have good water pressure, but rain showerheads. I know that some people like them, but they are not my preference. Our room had a shower only. The bathroom door was a sliding barn door style so you can hear everything. They have a microwave and a refrigerator. They are close to a really good Italian Pizza place called Italian Pie. (The portions here are generally big). There is a cool mural of Louis Armstrong visible from the street. It is far enough away from the french quarter to be pretty quiet. The views are urban. I would stay here again if given the option.
