Nothing short of the perfect stay

My traveling companion and I stayed at La Galerie for a week in mid-August. We selected the hotel primarily because of the convenient location. It's only a block from Canal St. in the French Quarter, close enough to Bourbon to walk (but enough of a distance to avoid crowd noise), and — most importantly — only 250 feet from the House of Blues, where we were attending a pair of concerts.
And while we may have initially chosen the hotel for the convenience, we'll return for the experience. I can honestly say that I don't think I've had a more pleasant, clean, or comfortable stay in all my journeys. And I'm a travel writer by trade.
To begin with, the building is beautiful. A classic New Orleans façade, with lovely architectural detail. The lobby is warm and inviting, with comfortable furniture, nice guest-first touches (the fruit-infused water was a great touch) and an elevator (!), which is a rarity in such a historic district.
The staff was incredibly cordial and helpful. If we had any requests, they were quickly addressed with traditional southern charm and hospitality. We couldn't have asked for better service. And wouldn't have gotten it even if we had.
The room itself was also exquisite. The perfect blend of history and modern convenience, and infused with charm. The main bedroom room had a so-comfy-you'll-want-to-sleep-in king bed, a wall-mounted flat-panel HDTV, mini-fridge and microwave, original art, and a lovely view of Decatur. We also got to enjoy an adjacent living room area featuring a trundle bed perfect for afternoon naps, and watching TV. The bathroom was perfectly-appointed, with a full shower, and complimentary toiletries.
We were in and out of La Galerie at all times of the day and night during our stay, popping in and out for ghost tours, sightseeing, and incredible food (which we had more than once at the adjacent and excellent Coterie restaurant), and the front desk attendant never failed to greet us, and ask us if we needed anything.
I usually try to end any review I give with constructive criticism, but I'm struggling to come up with anything when it comes to this hotel. I travel quite a bit for work, so I've seen the inside of a LOT of hotel rooms. But I'll be dreaming of returning to La Galerie until I visit New Orleans again. Just an incredibly memorable experience, and for all the right reasons. If you choose to book a stay, I can't imagine you'd be disappointed. Highest possible recommendation.
Great location & nice staff

Despite having a fantastic location and lovely smelling lobby area, I don't think I'd stay here again. My room was terribly small and smelled like moldy wood. Bathroom was tiny but did have loads of towels available. A decent piece of art hung above the bed but the side chair was so dirty and worn that I didn't put anything on it.
There was coffee and water available in the lobby however no other services or amenities exist.
It's decent for a budget hotel but I was really hoping for more.
