Lovely stay at the Mercure in Olbia

Reviewed 29 october, 2022

The staff are so friendly here and nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast buffet is a lovely mix of some hot options (bacon and scrambled egg), continental breakfast and some sardinian cakes to try. The swimming pool was also fun, although you have to be brave to get in this time of year, it was so cold! It's a just a few minutes walk back to the main centre and a lovely quiet hotel.

Not Great

Booked 6 rooms for a 3 night break. I always use Accor hotels and check in online to avoid time wasting. I even gave the guest names of each room online beforehand. It made no difference as I had to spend nearly 30 minutes sorting rooms whilst the rest of my group had a drink. When they did finish checking me in, I was told that I had an additional room which I would need to pay for if I did not cancel myself. I showed the receptionist that I had no other booking on my app but he took my phone to reception for 20 minutes to check. After this time he said their system was not correct. No apology. First hour wasted! The rooms are ok but tired and need updating. One of my groups shower doors fell off whilst he was showering. Breakfast is poor. About as bad as I have seen in any Accor hotel. I normally fill a small bottle of water to drink in my room whilst getting ready but the waiter stopped us as this is not acceptable. I have never had this trouble anywhere else. I would understand if I was taking a packed lunch out, but it was just water... Outdoor pool area was fine but pool is a little cold as it is unheated. We bought drinks from the bar but could not order food. We were toid that if we wanted food, we had to go to our rooms and order it there. We would then have to wait in our rooms for delivery of the food. Crazy! Bar area has no atmosphere and I don't think really want to be there. The main lift did not stop on floor 0 when going down so you have to get out at either 1 or -1 and walk the steps. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk to the centre but located in a very run down area. I would not allow a solo person to walk back alone so used taxi services. It is also on the side of a train track so very noisy in the mornings. In conclusion I would not recommend this hotel.

Modern and welcoming

Stayed here for the weekend from 14/10/22 until 16/10/22 we stayed in room 123. Hotel is a short drive from the airport we did get a taxi from airport to here cost 23 Euros then we worked out how the buses worked during our stay so its cheaper to get bus 1.50 euro number 10 it stops at the train station right next to hotel which is prefect you just have to walk 5 minutes and enter the hotel through the car park entrance. Check in was super quick as we arrived after 4pm, all reception staff are extremly helpful they will tell you anything you need to know nothings to much trouble. Reception area is very clean and modern. Room was huge with a huge bed, very clean and modern, bathroom was lovely. Plenty of clean towels changed daily too. No balcony but room had 2 windows which open wide lovely on an afternoon but you do get mosquitos coming in we were bitten quite bad so take mosquito sprays etc. There is air con used it for a short time but its extremley cold rooms are a lovely temperature anyway. Bar area is lovely whichnis situated near reception with lots of choice and their sandwiches are really nice if looking for a snack. Pool area small but very clean, modern and relaxing. Didnt see the spa so cant comment. Continental breakfast but with bacon amd eggs lots of pastries to choice from, lots of drinks to choice from too coffee is lovely. You can access the main restaurant town area on 1 straight road from hotel about 10 minute walk saves getting a taxi. The beach you will need to get a taxi or bus. Overall we had a wonderful stay, great hotel very welcoming customer service is fantastic. Definitely recommend this hotel for a short break.

Worse than expected

Overall we were disappointed with this hotel. The spa was not operating, and one of our main hopes for our holiday were to relax when we wanted to in the spa. The room was acceptable but unpleasant view over building site by the railway..we asked for a room with a decent view.Good daily maid service. There were no welcome instructions or guidance at all in the room but we eventually found the 'do no disturb' was actually a button on the wall panel. Very limited breakfast options for my wife who has milk intolerance. We asked about milk free butter but got a shrug if the shoulders and were told 'it is difficult to find'. After 4 days we asked again and then finally they got lactose free spread...but that was not appropriate either. Trying to get food was a problem as the staff did not know ,and didn't really seem to care what ingredients were in the food and didn't know how to access the chart for intolerances so we ate elsewhere. The outdoor pool was really good and excellent in the hot weather. However the pool area was used for evening meals from 8pm, but around 6 - 630pm the waiters would crash around moving tables about and noisily dragging unused sunbeds out of their way. Not very relaxing and making you feel that they wanted you out of the way. We do not plan to return, and will probably not consider the Mercure brand again.
