Cosy chalet room, great location, fully stocked kitchen and great service

Reviewed 28 december, 2021

It is our 5th season in Villars and our first staying at a hotel. We ended up in the VR Chalet number 2 on the top floor for a week at Christmas thanks to the receptionist Caroline's excellent suggestion. The chalet was perfect for three if one is child. Service is impeccable. Location is ideal. Cosy and warm and very nicely decorated with real down duvets and a lovely kitchen.

My 13 year old slept on the single bed/sofa in the main living area and my younger and I shared the big comfy bed in the cosy bedroom. They made up the bed for us but left the cushions as an option if you want to make it a sofa too. The kitchen and dining table were plentiful complete with dishwasher, fridge, stove and oven and the basics you need to cook a few meals. THE GOOD: -The service was amazing - both reception and room cleaning. The Swiss in general can be a bit cold but the receptionists Caroline and Helia were anything but. They are friendly, helpful and responsive. From booking to email response to help with the room when requested. We asked for an extra duvet and they came immediately even though the main hotel is a short walk away. -They even emailed us the exact train schedule we needed for how to arrive from Geneva which was super easy to do (train in airport super close and bus from Aigle is also right in front then bus drops you off right at the hotel). -The daily room cleaning goes above and beyond with them even cleaning out the dishwasher for us! -The location couldn't be easier right next to the local train station that takes you up the mountain to ski, all the shops/restaurants and the apres ski scene at the open market. -The triple VR2 chalet is two flights of stairs up which isn't great if you have loads of luggage. Also the chalet is just behind the main hotel so you have to walk outside for a few meters to get to reception and the restaurant. -The restaurant offers a full and delicious menu for dinner - we enjoyed steak tartar, salmon tartar and turkey schnitzel. All were delicious as were the desserts. -Smart TV in the bedroom allows you to log in to your own Netflix account. Many channels too on the tele with all languages options including BBC. -Beds super comfortable. Bathroom is large and heated floor. Toilet room is separate which is nice with a family sharing. Water pressure in shower is great and bath an option if you want. -Kitchen has soap and sponge and towels provided and bathrooms and shower have nice liquid soaps too. -Quiet on the top floor with windows on 3 sides and great views down the valley. -Dresser and wardrobe in main bedroom but not much other space to store clothes if 3 people. THE BAD -Wifi. Not really existent. Really patchy. Frustrating. Also the 4G really bad so not much of a backup. But perhaps this is mountain life? -Breakfast no milk alternatives available so bring your own soy/oat milk if needed. They did offer to go out and get me some for the next day though. But they do have gluten free bread! We did the over priced 18CHF breakfast the first day and then went to the local fully stocked grocery store (Migros or Coop just 1/2 mile walk) for the rest of the mornings. -No wall hooks in the whole chalet (although chalet below has one outside of front door) so no where to hang ski coats or clothes to dry except small front closet and wardrobe (8 hangers in total). Really need these in every room. But we used the plentiful wall heaters. Just doesn't look as tidy hanging over all of the cupboard doors. :). -The shower door didn't stay closed or block the water so there is a flood every time someone showers. :(. We used a towel to try to keep it from swinging but it didn't block the water. Needs to be replaced. All in all a fantastic stay! We will be back for sure. Thank you again Caroline and Helia for a wonderful family holiday stay!

Attention to every detail!

Our wonderful experience of this hotel started with the initial phone call to reserve a room. Corrine was incredibly accommodating and even offered to shop for specific items for my breakfast due to my dietary restrictions. We arrived to a beautiful hotel, friendly staff, amazing location (directly across from the train station) and spacious comfortable room and bathroom. They were helpful in sharing their knowledge of the area and directions to the various hikes. A special table was saved for us the following morning for breakfast with all of the"special dietary items" already set out. We will definitely be back.

We stayed in one of the little chalets on the grounds of the hotel and everything was excellent! The hotel was bright, clean and spacious and homely and the staff went out of their way to be helpful and kind to us! We really loved our stay and will definitely be back to stay here if we are in Villars again.

Friendly people treating you as if you were a family, spacious rooms with comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, everything spotless clean. Location is outstanding! On top, very good breakfast and delicious food in a hotel restaurant. Relaxing and cozy atmosphere, it really feels like home away from home. I wish I could be back one day.

Home away from home

Great staff welcome us like family every year. True Swiss hospitality. Homey atmosphere, delicious home style cooking, open and covered garages and close proximity to the train station is so ideal. We’ll definitely be coming back (again)!
