Dirty, dilapidated and hidden fees!
**DO NOT STAY HERE!!** We had never been to Portland and were so excited. When arriving at the hotel, we were told hotel parking was valet only and almost $50! This was NOT listed on our booking (we used hotwire). You cannot even park on the street if you want to sleep past 6, you will get a ticket if you don't feed your meter by then. The room was also terrible. The bathroom door was pocket-style and did not close!! There was about a 3/4 inch gap! The back of the bathroom door was a mirror which would have been cool, except the entire top was cracked through with a shatter mark on one side that had been clumsily glued over so as not to fall out further. So tacky and ugly! The bathroom as also dirty. As in unscrubbed, stained grout and strange liquid marks around the toilet that looked suspiciously like urine that had missed the bowl. Yes, really. The walls are super thin. We could hear each and every nearby door open and shut all.night.long... voices in the adjoining rooms clear as day as well as in the hall. When I asked the front desk for a fan of any type to drown out the noise so we could sleep, they said no problem...then never got back to us. An hour later I called down and was told "he texted the guy who saw them last but he hasn't answered so it doesn't look good." Between the noise and the uncomfortable bed, we did not sleep at all. Even the valet when we checked out said "How was your stay? Average? I hope you'll be back but I suspect you won't, our good reviews are bought." I thought he was joking til I came here to really read through them... if you've read mine through know it is 100% true and I am not a picky hotel-goer, just a mom of toddlers who was trying to have a nice night out with her husband. The only good thing about this hotel was the location and one front desk clerk who was there overnight. He was the only male we dealt with, all three females were snippy and short. We felt very cheated and ripped off staying here, and left exhausted and disgusted.
Shoutout to Christopher!
The toilet in my room was having trouble, and not only did they fix it, but made sure that I was taken care of completely for any inconveniences. They gave us a $25 dollar credit at the minibar and restaurant. We never used the parking garage, so Chris more than made sure I got everything out of my stay, and freed up more of the credits (we used the heck out of the mini bar, it was too well stocked not too, I can’t resist a snickers). The hotel rooms are so cool and modern, awesome location! Was able to walk everywhere I wanted to go. I felt so well taken care of here, and if I come back to Portland for another visit, you know I’m staying here again. Thanks so much guys!

The Hotel Zags - Incredible Experience
Hello. We had the best experience under very sad circumstances with the staff at The Hotel Zags and Nel Centro Restaurant. Manager Nick, Christopher, Cara & Shelby we’re so kind, warm & accommodating to myself and my husband during our time in Portland. This is the best hotel and the staff know and understand “old school” customer service. They went above & beyond to welcome and serve us during our stay. Thank you all so much for the comfort you brought to us. You gave us hope that kindness is alive and well in Portland. XOXO
