Not bad

The hotel is at the end of the river, I give full mark for the room. It closed to the MTR station but if you drag your luggage from Namba station to the hotel, it will take 15-20 mins, the distance is far. As for breakfast, it was rare choice and not tasty. I leave early everyday so I don’t have other choices. __________________________________________________

Comfortable and good location

Reviewed 9 december, 2019

Good location and convenient - 5 minutes walking distance to nipponbashi train station/Dotonbori, 10 minutes walk to Kuromon market. Booked a twin bed room, room/toilet size is considered big per Japan’s standard but cleanliness needs slight improvement as there are dust at the corners/under the bed etc.

Ok location. Ok stay

There is no daily room service. You have to ask at the desk for someone to come up to your room to a)do a full clean or b) do a clean of towels and bins only. So keep that in mind. Bins are also not readily available in rooms. You will need to get a plastic bag from the desk and place it where you think is best. The elevators are also very small. Fits 4 people pretty much. Not suitable for light sleepers - can hear people outside your room if they are making noise or speaking loudly. There was a decent amount of walking space as the room (we got a single bedroom, double bed which was 2 single beds pushed together). Smoking room on level 1 otherwise no smoking. Staff we met were friendly. The fridge we had did not sit right so things fell over often. The shower head leaked so water sprayed to the side constantly. The pillows like all pillows weve tried in Japan are almost flat. Although i havent asked if there are better ones available (you may want to depending on how you sleep). Location wise it was good - it was easy to get to dotomburi, 8-10min walk. Option of 2 train stations nearby. Street is quie relatively quiet. There is a lawsons on a nearby corner so you can grab water etc on the way back from your days adventures.

Comfortable clean rooms, convenient location!

Reviewed 6 september, 2019

My husband and I loved our stay at the Nipponbashi Luxe Hotel! The rooms have all the mod cons, including an air conditioning unit with a remote control: so you can select your perfect setting! The beds are super comfy, with great mattresses, duvets and pillows (only 1 pillow per person was provided, but you can ask for more from the reception). We opted for 2 single beds, but they can also be pushed together to create a double bed. There's a nice, big TV with very limited English channels (from my memory: CNN, BBC and Bloomberg) - but we had our Chromecast, so we just watched our shows on Netflix.. On that note, the WiFi at the hotel is excellent! Each room has it's own WiFi router, with its own logon, which allows streaming to Chromecast (whilst many other hotels unfortunately redirect your login to a separate webpage). There's a fridge in the room, just make sure you don't inadvertently turn it off by touching the ON/OFF button right at the top of the fridge door. Like most hotels in Japan, there's no wardrobe: just a couple of hangers with 4 hooks - but you can ask for more hangers at the reception. There's no safe in the bedroom, and I forgot to ask whether or not they have safes for guests at the reception. There's a desk with a chair, so you have a suitable laptop space. Folded away near the chair there's a there's a luggage stand, and your big bag fits neatly in the entrance foyer, taking up no room. It would've been great if they had a rod for your hangers there, as it would be a perfect place to hang your clothes, but no. The toilet is separated from the washroom and bathroom, and the bathroom has a huge bathtub and shower space. The shower head has a "mist" setting, which supposedly moisturises your skin more: it's interesting. Just weird that the shower head can't *tilt* towards you: it only moves up and down the shower rod, so you can never stand UNDER the shower - you must hold on to it to get properly at all over. All amenities are provided: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand detergent, toothbrushes, toothpaste... I've got long, wavy hair and my hair came out fantastic with their shampoo and hair conditioner! For having your room cleaned by housekeeping the next day, you must leave your key-cards at the reception by 11am, so make sure you always return your keys before you head out in the mornings (there's also an ¥800 fee if you should lose your key). When you give your keys to the reception in the mornings, you will be asked to choose a cleaning service (included): A or B. Option "A" is for a FULL room clean, while Option "B" is only for the amenities refresh. To have housekeeping make your beds and clean the room, choose Option "A", - otherwise they will only change your towels and clear the trash (they won't even make the beds with Option "B"). Unfortunately there is no "eco-friendly option", where they clean the room and make your beds, without changing your sheets/towels. We picked Option B by mistake, and came back to unmade beds and dirty cups/glasses (to their credit, the receptionist was shocked that the cups hadn't been changed by housekeeping, as this should've been part of refreshing the amenities). Breakfast is not included and it's ¥500 for a Japanese-style buffet. We didn't try it however, as it's unfortunately only served until 9am. However there's a free coffee/tea machine at the reception which you can use anytime - it also provides cold water (to refill your bottles with) and hot water (for making pot-noodles!). Cutlery/chopsticks not available. No teaspoons in the rooms either, though they do provide kettles, mugs and teabags... Checkout is at 10am, and they charge ¥1000 for each additional hour if you're late. The good thing is that they offer free luggage storage at the reception after you checkout, so no problem there. Location is great as it's only 7 minutes walking distance from Nipponbashi station (Sennichimae Line) - with elevators at exit 2, 5, 6 & 10 (though the closest exit to the Hotel is #7, which you can use when you don't have your bags with you). There's a full, big 24-hour supermarket at 3 minutes walking distance from the hotel called "Super Tamade Nipponbashi" where you can get ready-made foods at great prices. Otherwise, there's the wonderful "Central Square Life" supermarket at Namba station, about 18 minutes walking distance away (connected to Nipponbashi station through the wonderful underground mall, which is an experience in itself). All things considered, we highly recommend the Nipponbashi Luxe Hotel! The people at the reception were very helpful indeed. PS: in regards to cleanliness, our room was clean. There was dust behind the TV, but we only got to it when we connected our Chromecast

Dusty room and terrible service

Reviewed 1 september, 2019

When I checked in, the room was dusty. I could see dust on almost every surface - table, tea tray, phone, bed headboard, etc. Even the tissue box had dust on it! The room also had a smoky, musty smell. I’m allergic to dust so decided to inform the receptionist. He came up to check the room and apologised saying he couldn’t do anything because the cleaning service only comes in the morning, and the hotel is fully booked. He promised that my room will be cleaned tomorrow. I accepted seeing there was no choice, and proceeded to do a bit of cleaning myself. However, when I got back the next day, the room was not cleaned! Again, I went down to reception and this lady was really rude. She said that I had to leave my keys at the desk before 11am if I wanted my room cleaned. I then told her that the receptionist the night before didn’t inform me while he kept promising my room will be cleaned. She then gave me another room room. Upon checking, the room was much smaller than my original room, which she didn’t even bother to inform me upfront. Not informing customers of a downgrade is just bad customer service. Upon checking the room, I decided to stay in my existing room seeing that it was already late and I have an early start the next day. I’m a frequent traveler to Japan and this is the first time I’ve encountered such a dusty, dirty room for a hotel of this range. Also, the service is subpar with receptionist from both nights being unhelpful and impolite, without providing much alternative. Some pics - I didn’t even take pics of all the surfaces - most of them were visibly dusty!
