Post Christmas break

Reviewed 6 march, 2023

We thought we’d have short (4night) break to recharge the batteries after Christmas, and this hotel came up at a decent price. A long transfer from the airport which we knew about, we arrived in time for dinner. Check in was efficient with lemon water being offered. Luckily our room was near reception , very pretty surroundings and quiet. As the name suggests, plenty of cacti. Comfortable beds made it a great stay. A kettle and bottled water are provided on arrival, so bring tea bags etc for a morning brew! Housekeeping were efficient, although some days they came late on in the day. Food and drinks choices are good, local brands but that wasn’t a problem at all. We decided to upgrade to the premium option, very cheap at €5 pppd and worth it for us. Some items still chargeable however. This also entitled us to access to the rooftop bar. Breakfast wasn’t extensive, but was acceptable for a short stay. Other meals were lovely, fresh and replenished often. Staff were friendly, happy to chat to guests. There are some nice walks in the area particularly the beach , good amount of shops to pass the time. Not really many bars per se, but a good amount of restaurants if that’s your thing. My husband being a football fan likes to watch while we are away but that wasn’t possible here. The upper area has plenty of sun loungers and chairs, the jacuzzi was a bit cold for use, but to be expected in January. Jandia as a resort is German orientated in my opinion, and a bit too far from the airport. The hotel itself however is lovely and well worth a visit.

Good hotel in great location

Perfectly placed hotel just 100 meters from main road where there are plenty of shops, bars and cafes, the beach a 5minute stroll away. The hotel pool area was always clean and tidy with a bar to help yourself to drinks when all-inclusive. The rooms are comfortable and well-equipped and the balcony was perfect for a peaceful chill out. Plenty of sun beds in pool area and also on 6th and 9th floors so different options available. The staff were all very friendly and pleasant and there was always a wide selection of food which was generally pretty good.

Refresh your Soul at Cactus Lemon Soul

I liked everything, the staff were all warm, friendly and so helpful. The room was big, newly renovated, lovely balcony, fabulous shower and had great sleeps in the beds. The breakfasts and dinners had lots of different choices of food so something for everyone. The rooftop terrace and bar up there are really lovely with spectacular views. The barman at night makes amazing mojitos and is so nice. We tried the aqua aerobics in the pool and rooftop yoga with the Animator and had great fun at both. The hotel has a superb location too, a hop and a skip from the beach and a gorgeous 20 minute walk to Moro Jable. I would go back in a heartbeat and we had a lovely relaxing holiday.

Mixed bag

3 stars very mixed We stayed for a week as a winter break away from British cold weather. All in all a pleasant experience but a very mixed bag of services. It was around 90 minutes transfer from the airport with some stops on the way, but we knew this before arriving so we were prepared and the journey was absolutely fine. The landscape is quite baron, but again this is something we know prior to arrival when we decided on the Canaries. Location: Location was wonderful, a short 5-10 minute walk to the sea front with big crashing waves and lighthouse nearby. Also a skeleton of a washed up Sperm whale along the coast. The hotel was nearby to the shops too with an array of premium brand shops, bars and restaurants to try. Rooms: The rooms were lovely, much larger than anticipated with a sofa at one end with some built in storage, decent sized bathroom and bed, with a balcony. We had a lovely view of the sea front from our balcony. Certainly one of the nicer hotel rooms we’ve stayed in. Pool(s?): This hotel was advertised as having 2 pools however I think that would be a stretch. There is one pool and next to it what resembled a puddle as a ‘kids pool’ which was far too cold to put a child in anyway. There was also 2 jacuzzis however they were far too cold to actually use Sunbathing: Plenty of spots with enough sunloungers for everyone. The upstairs decks were lovely however there were no drinks facilities so we had to go downstairs to get drinks and bring them back. A self service option could be beneficial even if a full bar is not available on the upper decks. Lifts: The lifts were tiny and seemed to take ages. Always a queue to get in and out of them and going the wrong direction after you’d selected the floor you wanted. More/bigger lifts would be ideal Food: The food was repetitive to say the least, however it was well cooked and tasty. If you like pork and seafood you’re on for a winner of a stay. We found ourselves holding out hope for some chicken or something a bit different. Breakfast was always identical, with continental options, cooked options and cereal/yoghurts but this is generally expected with any hotel. Lunch and dinner were mixed, with a daily selection of pizza, usually a seafood rice/pasta dish and then some freshly cooked meat, usually pork but there was lamb on one occasion and sometimes some sausages and beef. There would also be a selection of vegetables and potatoes including chips each day. One day they did have a Chinese style night, which made a nice chance towards the end of the week as we were getting fed up of the very similar foods from the rest of the week. Staff: The staff were generally friendly however some were rude. A lad called Marco was serving on the pool bar one day, leaving us to stand and wait as he was talking to someone sat at the bar. We ordered our drinks and some chips, and he said they would be 5 mins. He continued serving and then began watching videos on the phone of this man at the bar in between serving people. After 15 mins he brought out a burger and chips someone else had ordered but not ours. I understand people forget orders but we found it rude that he had been focusing on the videos of the man sat there rather than customers. On the other hand, a particularly excellent member of staff was Javier, who was often in the roof top bar. His cocktails were lovely and he was always very welcoming towards us and made us feel relaxed. Premium upgrade drinks: This was one of the main points that let the holiday down. On arrival the staff were friendly and welcomed us to the hotel. We were advised that we could upgrade to premium all inclusive for 5€ per person per night, which gave us access to premium spirits and the Zeus Rooftop bar after 7pm. We decided to do this however soon discovered that despite upgrading there were still brands that we were unable to get and would have to pay for as extra. The extra charges included all but around 3 All Inclusive cocktails which were very tasty but understandably a little repetitive after 7 nights of them. I found it a little misleading as we were not advised at reception that there would still be extra charges for the majority of the drinks menu items. After a few nights we ended up venturing out to “OASIS COCKTAIL BAR” just a short walk away, whereby they had a vast menu of cocktails that were actually cheaper that the ones at the rooftop bar. This is the first time I’ve been to an all inclusive where cocktails were not included as standard using local spirits. If people are going to be paying extra for ‘premium’, this should include everything on the menu. There was also no mention of this prior to arriving, which would have been nice to know beforehand

A really lovely hotel - centrally located

Reviewed 2 march, 2023

Cactus Garden is a smaller all inclusive hotel in comparison to most hotels in the Jandia area but is a real gem.  It's perfectly located behind the main promenade just a short walk (about 5 minutes) to the breathtaking Jandia beach. The hotel is very cool, light and airy and we loved the cacti planted in and around the hotel.  There are numerous sun bathing areas around the hotel, not just around the pool with lots of sunbeds so there really was no need to clip your towel to a bed at 8am - although a very few people still did 🙄 We had a lovely double room with balcony and a side sea view (room 203).  This faced east so we had a wonderful sunrise view, very warm in the mornings but cooler in the afternoon.  Our room was large, airy and well equipped (including a fridge, kettle and free safe. The rooms were serviced daily.  The bathroom was very clean and spacious with a walk in shower but was a little tired in places.  This and the bed configuration of two large singles pushed together but not joined together means we gave this hotel a 4.5 rating rather than a 5.  Having read some of the previous reviews we wondered what the food would be like but it was, in our view, lovely.  Unlike bigger all inclusive hotels there wasn't food 24/7 but there was a large choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner which was perfect for us.  There were lots of authentic Spanish dishes too as well as some cooked to order options too.  The staff were friendly, there were lots of tables in the restaurant which was also light and airy.  The beach itself is miles of wide golden sand and you could walk along the beach by the sea or along a palm lined paved promenade to the village of Morro Jable, about 15 minutes, or in the opposite direction past the lighthouse towards Costa Calma.  We were there the last week of February, and it was very warm and sunny but breezy during the day and cooler in the evenings. This was our first experience of a winter sun holiday and it was even better than we hoped it would be - we're already planning our return next year 🌞
