"should have known better"

I'm not a howard johnson fan. I made reservation for this motel mid Oct 2018 for 18 Nov 2018, never stayed at howard johnson before. I do know they had hurricane there with lot of damaged areas but was gonna go through panama city for one night on way back from Orlando FL. I get to motel 3pm 18 Nov 2018 with reservation in hand and motel closed due to storm. I had received no notification of this from anyone stating closure. Talked with person at motel saying it had been closed for a while. If that is way howard johnson treats customers/guest I will never try stay at a howard johnson again. I wish panama city well on their recovery, "I should have known better".
Ok for a quick one night stay

This hotel has what you need for a one or two night stay. There are definitely no frills, so its not somewhere you'd want to stay for an extended period of time. Has your basic neccessities. The room smelled overwhelmingly of potpourri. I think it was probably carpet vacuuming powder. The continental breakfast was slim pickings, with weird pastries like
I was happy with my stay.

Staff was friendly. The room was clean and fresh. While we were out of the room, they hardly came to replenish towels and such. We had to call and ask several times. The breakfast was a good grab n' go type of thing. Check in and out was very fast and easy.

I felt this hotel is worth the stay. We were able to walk to Golden Corral and back. Enjoy a nice swim in the pool and tv later. Had a good nights sleep on nice beds and shower in the morning. Couldn't ask for more. Worth the stay.

Where do I start! First it's a family run hotel, as the family does everything. Next the reservation area was cluttered, the desk was also used as the office. Papers was all over. During the sign in, the manager left the desk and disappeared for ten minutes and came back in. There was only two handicap parking space and one was being used by a non handicap individuals. Between the two parking space was the ramp for a wheelchair, at night a car used the wheelchair ramp area and parked their. Inside the room: The bathroom had two large black spots on the floor (see pictures), Microwave had a knob completely missing (see pictures), there was coffee packets, with packets of sugar, cream and etc. (see pictures) But no coffee maker. The dresser and night stand had debris in the drawers. The furniture was need of replacement. Only one trash receptacle on the lower floor, by the ice machine. No receptacle for the smoker to place cigarettes butts. So most of the trash and cigarettes butt was thrown on the ground (see pictures). Overall the hotel needs a major renovation. I would think that this hotel is not up to Howard Johnson standards, just in name only. I could say more, but I think you should get a idea. I can say the staff was very friendly.
