One lovely month

The location is great: nice restaurants around, close to the downtown. The rooms are very very clean, that's very appreciated. The Wifi signal in my room was quite bad unfortunately. The best about this pousada is the people who are working there: they are just lovely, very warm, helping whenever one needs, I really enjoyed it ! The breakfast is great, many options for the drinks as well as for the food. I definitely recommend it, for a business trip but also for a family or a couple. I don't have any opinion on the prices cause the company booked the room for me.
Nice small hotel

I stayed in the Vale do Paraiso Pousada from 22.10-28.10.2017. The hotel is a small no frills hotel but you get what you pay for. I would see it more like a bed & breakfast type hotel. The room is big with lots of storage opportunities and very clean. Right next door there is a supermarket and there are a few bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walk that seemed lively. A walk in to the center of Petropolis takes about 20 minutes (mostly down hill) but the walk back is hard on the lungs, depending on your fitness. The owners / staff do not speak english or german but with spanish know how you can just about get along and be understood. They are, however, most friendly and make you feel like home with a friendly, family like atmosphere. The hotel has no restaurant or bar but a microwave is provided in the breakfast room for use all day and the room has a fridge and TV with some english channels. I felt well looked after in this small hotel and enjoyed my stay.
The bare minimum necessary

When we booked we asked for a standard room, we thought it would be at least a room with a bathroom, a bed, air conditioning and some space to put our luggage. There were a bed tucked on one corner of the room, the sink was in the room, the toilet bow inside a tiny closet, that if you sat there the door would not close, the shower was inside another tiny closet that you hardly have room to put your arms up to wash your hair, and I am a petite person. Once we dropped our luggage on the floor there were no place to walk. Also the access to this room was though a very steep and narrow steps. When I saw what the room was, I looked to my husband and said what is this? The staff who had accompanied us to the room, said nervously: I'll call my manage and ask him if I can change you another room, then came back saying he was going to move us. The next room was decent, with a very impressive bathroom the same size or bigger that the previous room, and air conditioning for the same price. Why the heck do they have to do something like that? Before bed time, I asked for a hair dryer, and they told me that I have to give it back on the same day, because someone else might needed, and they agreed to let me have it with the condition of they would knock on my door if someone needed. So be aware that they have different kinds of room, and if don't complain you might end up in a closet. The location was good, many restaurants, and a bakery that could cook small meals on request and the price was good. A little far from down town, but I know the area and you could have a pleasant walk to town if you are an avarage walker. The streets in Petropolis are narrow and the traffic can be challenging. Breakfast was good, there were parking but tight and the cars have to be manured by the staff, in order for you to be in and out. They said there were wifi, but it did not work.
Good value a bit outside of the centre

We booked a double room with external bathroom for R$136 and ended up getting a room with private bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpfull, breakfast was very good with lots of options and the price includes a pool, hydromassage (more a hot tub, not much of a massage) and sauna. The pousada is maybe 25min walking distance from the center. For us no problem. From the rodoviaria you have to take 2 buses or take one and walk about 10min (taxi at least R$40-50). There are quite a few restaurants close by which is handy at night. The only thing we didn't like was the shower and bathroom. Both of them were extremely cramped. Even me being small I couldn't use the toilet with the door being fully closed, the hose of the shower kept coming off so it wasn't really possible use it (the one next to the sauna was great though). So all in all great value for money, I just wouldn't pay extra for a private bathroom.
