Great place to tour, taste, eat and sleep!

I was a little intimidated by the review and email stating this is a working vineyard, not a hotel - however, please do yourself a favor and visit here! The hospitality upon check-in is much better than most hotels, and the property is set up to accommodate their guests with everything you could need. Our room was so spacious and the views were unbelievable! The restaurant served an incredible dinner. Breakfast was so enjoyable because so much of the food was locally grown, from the honey to the jams. There is a walking path through the vineyards which was so lovely to start the day. The tour and tasting was also much better than the other Quintas we visited. My only regret is not spending more days here.

We added a night to our Portugal trip at the last minute and decided to rent a car and stay at a quinta in the Douro Valley before heading to the airport. Quinta de la Rosa was a truly special treat. We can’t imagine staying anywhere else. Everyone was super welcoming and the views of the river were outstanding. The room was even nicer than it looked in pictures and was super comfortable. The dinner at the restaurant, Cozinha da Clara, was honestly just as good as the Michelin-rated meals we had in France the week before and the included breakfast (served in the same restaurant) has a nice selection of eggs, breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt, etc. The Quinta is very close to town and fairly easy to get to, though if you’re driving, some ways into town are more white-knuckled than others!!! Staying at harvest time was a special treat to observe the process. We only wish we had more than 24 hours there! Note that Quinta de la Rosa will send you an email explaining that it’s not a hotel. It has some steep inclines. They don’t have luggage service or 24 hour check in. None of this was a problem for us. They also have limited parking but we were able to park right in front of our room. We found everything to be very comfortable and they do have an elevator to the restaurant, if needed. We highly recommend staying here and really want to return to enjoy more of what Quinta de la Rosa has to offer.

A gem

Before arrival I got a welcome letter stating that this is not hotel but vineyard with rooms, no tv or phone in the rooms andbe aware of many stairs. Not so welcoming but on the other hand that adjusted the expectations. So really everything exceeded them. The suite we had by the river with a quirky bathroom( built in a part of the mountain) was lovely. Parking just outside. It is hilly but there are several ways to walk, stairs or paths. As it was harvest it was fun to be a part of a living quinta with wine making in progress. All doors were open so you could peek in and look whenever you wanted. Had dinner twice at Clara´s which was good but pricey. Over all the price level is high . But the view is great! And the location is really good . You can walk to several quintas for wine tasting on foot. To walk to Pinhao town it takes 20 minutes approx. There you also have a number of boat trips to choose from on the Duor river. Overall we are very pleased with our stay.

De la Rosa is a great place to learn about winemaking. And do buy the lunch also, it's very good. The guide will show and tell you about the process in the facility, and if you come at the right time of year, you can also see the harvestwork. It's good fun. As far as I can see, this is the best place to visit in Douro. And did I remember to recommend the lunch in the restaurant?

Lunch two times and a wine tour

I stayed near Lamego not here and rather wish I had chosen Quinta de la Rosa. It is beautifully situated in a very rural part of the Duoro valley. Around Regua is much more built up and quite unattractive. It was a very good tour with a knowledgeable guide followed by lunch and tastings. I enjoyed the drive and lunch so much that I returned for a second time.
