Just to be clear we didn't stay at the hotel but we had dinner on their rooftop Restaurant. When you first walk into the hotel you're greeted by the very kind bellman, when we walked in we asked the nice young lady at the front desk where the restaurant was and she directed us up the elevator to the third floor rooftop restaurant. You can't beat the atmosphere with the Pismo Beach Ocean view. The dinner was fantastic and the shrimp are huge. One quick shout out to the very kind waitress, Maria, who explained the whole menu so clearly. We will for sure be back.
Shamed for Crying Child
Opinión escrita el 15 de Agosto de 2021
I arrived back at the hotel with my less than 2 year old in a tantrum. Exhausted, feeling like everyone has eyes on us, embarrassed already, as I walked by the front desk that was full of people, the front desk agent yelled across the room something at us, highlighting our scene to make the people by him laugh. He didn't know how humiliated I felt with everyone laughing.
After what felt like forever of my child crying, I get a call from Douglass at the front desk. He tells me they are concerned as they had received a call from a guest.
Noise complaints are subjective and to be handled with delicacy. We were not yelling. We were not jumping on beds. We were not throwing anything. I was desperately, quietly trying to plead and console my baby. A crying child is tough to deal with, and imagine being in the middle of a situation and here is someone telling you they are "concerned" about your child. I told Douglass that I'd be concerned too and need help as this is a crying child. I was unprepared to be met by his sassy response of "Oh, did you call to complain?"
If you were concerned and a child is involved, I strongly encourage you go to that room and do a wellness check. This IS a practice among hotels.
I was taken aback by his response. I asked for his name and after a pause -- he actually hung up on me. I called back and got Douglass again. I asked for the Manager's name to which he replied, "Michael." I asked to speak with Michael, but after being on hold, Douglass said, "He is too busy handling other matters." I said that I would wait and Douglass said I could not.
That night, I reached out via the website to the Inn at the Pier and to the parent company Pacifica Hotels. I did not receive a reply back. I had also posted a brief review to capture this terrible experience to which only that public review did receive a reply. I have deleted that review and posted this more detailed account.
The next day, I actually called the hotel again and spoke with a Timothy. He told me the Manager's name - Kevin Viggers. I called again later that week and spoke with a Sessi and she verified Kevin's name. Clearly, Douglass had lied to me.
Disappointing that my private attempts were not replied to. It's even more disappointing that the one family vacation we had was ruined by this ridiculous customer service. A vacation is to offer some escapism from the everyday. People don't know what mental or emotional health issues are under the surface. I implore The Inn at the Pier to review how they approach certain complaints and situations. I would encourage more sensitivity, less sass, and actual respect when dealing with your patrons.
Great location but staff not well-trained

We had a room overlooking the pier, but it also overlooks a parking lot. We had no washcloths, and upon arrival, there was a plastic bag filled with what appeared to be dog poop. We called to address both situations and left the room. We came across an employee with a large laundry cart in the hallway who was on his way to our room. He acknowledged having the wash cloths and showed us where they were sitting in the base of the cart beneath other items. Not something I want to wash my face with!
We were given the wrong room, but the front desk quickly corrected that upon our inquiry. That evening, I heard a loud noise just outside our sliding glass window that prompted me to look for the source outside on our balcony. I localized it to our neighbor's A/C unit. When we turned on the A/C in our room, we also produced a very loud noise. Good thing I brought ear plugs!
The only facility for dining was on the rooftop deck, which has a nice view, but it surrounds a small pool filled with children. Pretty casual, but food was decent. Margaritas not great (I tried two different ones). Staff very friendly, but they were slow to serve, probably due to Covid staff shortages.
