Gets the details right.

I found this hotel so impressive. Some of the higher-end Marriott properties at which I’ve stayed in the past few months have been disappointing representations of their respective premier brands, but this hotel just gets all the details right. The property not only was spotless, but my room was absent of the little quirks that sometimes show up, such as cheap-looking furniture, and décor, poorly operating fixtures, unattended wear, unthoughtfully placed items and things that obviously had not been cleaned, etc. Everything from the pants rod in the wardrobe to the valets’ combination of friendliness and professionalism made me think that this is way an American hotel ought to be run. Even the elevator door close buttons worked! I don’t often have a reason to visit Pittsburgh, but when I do I would 100% stay here again. Highly recommend, with the caveats that I did not partake of the restaurant/bar or the gym, though a local friend spoke highly of the food.

Great space

Reviewed 2 november, 2021

This hotel is very new and the furnishings and decor are in great condition. The room was very spacious and quiet. Comfortable beds, but pillows could be improved. We had requested feather but had some lumpy polyester pillows instead. Room service food not very good and there aren't many restaurants close by. Panera would have been better for both dinner and breakfast !

The Oaklander is best hotel on Pitt campus

Reviewed 24 october, 2021

My third stay at Oaklander and it never disappoints! Was fortunate to be upgraded to Presidential Suite which was fabulous. The view of Pitt’s campus is spectacular especially if you get a high floor corner room on Fifth Ave side. The restaurant at top has sweeping views and the food is always top notch. Probably priciest option in Oakland but if you want to spurge or have points to spend then well worth it!!!

Absolutely phenomenal property!

Reviewed 23 september, 2021

Absolutely phenomenal property! I have stayed at this property 3 times in the past 6 months! Here’s are my observations. The Great: First and foremost, this property is clean, in fact I’d say immaculately clean. While I would not recommend it, I believe you could proverbially eat of the floor if you had too! The rooms (I’ve stayed in 3 different rooms) were absolutely spotless, no dust, no dirt, just clean! The rooms are relatively large and feature a “push-cart” type piece of furniture which holds the in-room coffee service (Nespresso). These are not “cookie cutter” big chain rooms. They are truly nicely decorated and very well lighted. The beds were comfortable each time and there is plenty of light and room to work at the desk. There is a multi-outlet on the side of the desk which features 120v and USB connections but is not necessarily visible when you first sit down. In case it rains they provide you with an umbrella (the bell staff has extra downstairs) The bathrooms are large, well provisioned, and the shower quickly heated with plenty of water pressure. The closet is a freestanding wardrobe which is lighted when the door opens. Bonvoy (Platinum & Titanium) members are treated well and are offered a $10/pp breakfast credit, plus of course the extra points. Areas needing improvement. Yes, a few areas for improvement, emphasis on a few! Breakfast service (and you can see this in other reviews) was hit or miss a few times however it should be noted each time the staff did everything in their power to correct any situation which went awry, including not charging us when on one particularly bad day, they were encumbered by delays in the kitchen. Things sometimes do go wrong, but they made it right! Business center: They don’t have one and it would be helpful if they did. To be clear the staff offered to arrange printing of any document I needed but I still prefer to print certain confidential documents myself. Like I said, the areas needing improvement are minor! The Phenomenal: The staff all of them from Johnny downstairs, to Peggy & Kaitlyn at the front desk, to Aurora and Andy at the bar/restaurant where amazing, caring, and truly looking out for all their guests. They are all worthy of the title “Hotelier” and their GM should be PROUD! I know there are more names to mention but those were the only ones I could recall. Overall: this hotel is absolutely phenomenal! look forward to a few more nights there this year!

Problems In Hotel Dining Area

Reviewed 20 august, 2021

An hour wait for breakfast in dining area and then the food came out cold. Staff was overwhelmed. Also, never was told that breakfast reservations were necessary or one had to sit outside on a rainy day. We know that the Pandemic has created problems and we understand that but this was unacceptable
