Great service, disappointing room

Reviewed 15 november, 2021

Came here for a week with 5 other friends to celebrate my "milestone" birthday. We booked 3 oceanfront rooms. Our room (3 of us) was 101, by far the worst of the three. We were on ground level which was great for access to the beach, but it's not very private - people sitting on deck chairs (on the beach) literally feet from your door. Our other friends were in rooms 201 and 214, both on the 2nd level with their own private balconies overlooking the beach with table, chairs and hammocks. But the problems with room 101 go beyond being on the first floor. In fairness the room was very clean and pretty well appointed, but just a tad dated and "tired." I could deal with that but the worst part was we dealt with water issues all week. On our first day, the shower was literally a trickle and we had to keep it running for 15 minutes for any hot water (no exaggeration). We, of course, brought it up with the front desk and they did come the next morning and literally took the shower head, etc apart and this definitely improved the water pressure. But we continued to have issues with hot water throughout our week and on some mornings when we turned on the water, there was none, or just a trickle. Within a few minutes the water would finally come, but what an annoyance!! The bathroom is tiny too!! Our friends' rooms had much nicer bathrooms. On an another night when returning to our room, none of the electrical outlets in the walls worked which meant no TV, the refrigerator was off (after we had just gone to the grocery store that day for supplies), no cell phone charging, no wall lights, etc. Luckily it didn't impact the AC or the overhead lights. We let the front desk know again and they said no one could come until the next morning to look at it. Luckily we slept ok because the AC was working fine. They did come the next morning and fixed it quickly (it was just a circuit that had tripped). Needless to say, I would never stay in room 101 again. Now as to the positive things. The room had a small kitchen which was very well equipped with a good-sized refrigerator, brand new coffee maker (Nespresso), blender and toaster - and a two burner cooktop. Also complete with dishware, pots/pans, silverware, glasses, coffee cups and even shot glasses. We put them to good use. And although we were disappointed with the room and had ongoing issues throughout our stay, I can't say enough about the staff. They were very friendly and responsive to our requests/issues. Carlos was wonderful helping with us with several excursions. And Alfredo and the woman (can't remember her name) in the office were always pleasant and helpful. As to the beach area, it's small but was very clean (no seaweed), but I didn't really enjoy the water there - it's a but murky - not the crystal clear blue Caribbean waters I'm accustomed to. But that certainly isn't the hotel's fault. They provide nice beach chairs with cushions and the staff is very willing and helpful by the beach too. The pool is beautiful, crystal clear and well maintained. But it's not the type of pool to lounge by if that's what you're looking for. It's a long narrow pool (very pretty) but no space for deck chairs - and there's no sun by the pool anyway except for a short amount of time in the morning. It's all about sitting on the beach, and that's fine. And the property itself is very nice with beautiful trees and tropical foliage - very well maintained. So I gave on overall rating of only 3 stars because of the disappointment in the room. As to service, I'd rate it as 5 stars, but as to the room 2 stars. Avoid room 101....

Great Hotel and Location.

Nice smaller hotel on the beach. Stayed 3 nights. Pool - Very well kept. 4’ deep. Nice to cool off in. Beach - Very clean and nice sand. Beach recliners. Some sellers but not aggressive at all. Room - Very clean and comfortable with kitchenette, nice bathroom with shower, patio. Fan and AC worked well. AC will not turn your room Arctic though if that’s your thing. Large filtered water bottle for filling glasses or bottles. Hot water takes a bit in the shower but when it comes it’s hot, perfect temperature can be had. Wifi - Great system, and fast. Each room has its own access point plus ap’s at pool and beach. Staff - Very friendly and welcoming and more than willing to help or answer questions. Location - Perfect. Close to everything but still in a nice quiet location. Definitely will be staying again and is now my go to hotel for PDC!

Lovely hotel; would stay here again!

My husband and I stayed a week here. It's a great location, perfect distance from the beach and 5th Ave. We could hear the ocean waves at night and none of the crazy party music. The room was nice and big and fully stocked with dishes, fridge, stove, and more. They have a 5 gallon water dispenser in each room, which lasted us the whole week. The balcony is beautiful ❤️. We had breakfast there most mornings. Breakfast is $7/day and was pretty good for the price. You can't beat free room service!! The pool is small, but nice. It closes at 6pm, which is kind of silly. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. The room was cleaned very well daily. They even have a concierge person to setup tours for you if needed. The only complaint we had was that the toilets don't work very well. I suppose we can blame the Caribbean/Central American crappy (pun intended) water pressure more than the hotel.

Beautiful Hotel in the Heart of Playa del Carmen

This hotel, which is located on the beach, is within a minute's walk from the main street and hundreds of shops, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. The staff went over and beyond to make us feel welcomed and taken care of, and there is 24/7 security on-site. I would definitely stay here again for another trip to beautiful Playa del Carmen

Great hotel to stay near 5th Ave

Our stay in Playa Palms Beach was the best! Alejandra in front desk was is amazing! She went out of her way helping us setting our tours and accommodations for our COVID test to return back home. The hotel is very close to 5th Ave but still quiet even though clubs are near by. I will definitely recommend you guys! Just an FYI Apparently there are some months where there is seaweed that covers de Coast Line, this year was a lot. We went the fist week in July. Make sure you check their live cams to check the beaches. Although the seaweed made the beach unavailable their customer service made up for it. Hope to go back soon.
