More about the hotel
Aged. Rooms can use updating
Staff were friendly. Hotel was clean, but the room was old. Beds were awful, worn in the middle. My fiancée and I were rolling into each other the whole night. Shower knob kind of had a mind of its own. If you don’t mind blazing hot or freezing cold water, go ahead. Had to hold it in the middle while I showered. Our room view wasn’t pleasant, which would explain why the curtains were closed when we walked in. (View of a parking lot, and dumpsters.) PARKING IS NOT INCLUDED WITH YOUR STAY. This is a bit absurd, $25 a night to park your car. Or take your chances on the street at $8 AN HOUR. Would not go back again, and most def wouldn’t recommend.
Great Location
Located on a main, waterfront street, this puts you in a great location to walk to local restaurants, pubs and other attractions. Lots of precautions due to covid, to include a locked lobby. Yes, there was a valet parking charge. I understood and accepted it when I reserved the room. We did not use our car for our two night stay. The hotel property was clean, and well kept. To include the room, and public spaces. We would stay here again.
Close to everything, swanky, you deserve it
Sure it's gonna cost more than other places. Life is short. Go. PROS You can get a water view room. We saw a freighter pass by that was a block long and 80 feet high, amazing. The building looks brand new inside and out. Lots of classy extra touches. The breakfast for $13.95 will be the best breakfast of your life, all you can eat. Every staff member was charming, helpful and fun. Valet parking, don't even think about self parking. Close to the ferry, right on commercial street, close to a million awesome restaurants. CONS The hotel is across the street from the docks and harbor, it's not right on the water. Also there is a large parking garage directly across the street which spoils the water view. But we still liked it. Due to Covid, no maid service, no toiletries, no room service. You have to order that great breakfast and then go pick it up, a pain. Once you get back to the room, there is only one chair at the desk to eat. The second person eats on the bed or a stuffed chair, not too romantic. Still, do it. Order as much breakfast as you like for one price. FUN The highlight for us was the Lucky Catch lobster tour. Fun for all ages. Also, visit the Shipyard brewery which is very close to the hotel, but you still need a car. Expect to wait to get in, but you'll be rewarded with flights(4 small beers) of the most interesting, delicious beer ever. Pick from 25 brews. After finishing the flight they'll be a question on your mind. The answer is yes! it's ok to get a second flight. :-) We loved the pizza too. Have fun in Portland! Alagash is another brewery that is good with delicious sandwiches. Alas we had bad luck at J's Oyster bar.
Amazing Stay and Perfect Location!!!
This was our first vacation since February and we couldn’t have picked a better hotel. We visited for 3 nights in August and stayed in a King Bed Deluxe Waterview with sofa-bed room. The view from our room was phenomenal. Upon arrival we realized that this hotel took so many Covid precautions. Only hotel guests could enter the hotel with keycard. Elevators were limited to one person/family (most people abided by it, we had one person who didn’t) and everyone wore face masks while walking around. The pool and fitness center were by appointment only. Breakfast was ordered over the phone and picked up “to-go” style. You could bring back to your room or eat in the spacious area downstairs. Rooms were cleaned by request. Otherwise, you just called down if you needed more towels, etc… I wiped every surface of our room with wipes I brought from home and the wipes were clean, no visible dirt anywhere. We felt very safe! The room had a microwave, a Keurig single coffeemaker and refrigerator. The air-conditioning worked very well. My only criticism (which is the same for most hotels we stay at) is the shower pressure was low. The hotel is in a perfect location, right on Commercial St. directly across from the Casco Bay. It is a perfect location to walk to different restaurants, bars and sights. Valet parking only and was $25/night. There is a public parking garage across the street at the ferry terminal. Our room rate deal was great as it included breakfast and valet parking. Breakfast was freshly prepared. It was a decent breakfast, especially since we had the vouchers, but wouldn’t pay $13.95 each as you can find cheaper options in the area. Valet in/out services were quick and efficient. It was a very short drive to South Portland and Cape Elizabeth to check out some of the different lighthouses. We would definitely stay at this hotel in the future based on our experience and the location!
Incredible
This hotel is great. Smallish views of the water but right on the waterfront. Valet wonderful despite the charge. Very friendly and helpful staff. Feel incredibly safe. However the very best thing is the home made corn beef hash for breakfast. I cannot say enough about it. Over all breakfast was wonderful as well. There is definitely a homeless problem around but not aggressive. Visit exchange street for shops.
