It's getting worse

Reviewed 13 june, 2022

I'm a regular client of Vila Galé Group. And i've stayed often at Vila Galé Porto. Yesterday was the last time. I stayed with my wife for three nights to attend a music festival. The hotel was full and the hotel was clearly understaffed. And this is something that we've been experiencing at the Vila Galé Group (like the Vila Galé Opera, in Lisbon). Yesterday we waited more than one hour (!!!!) in the lobby bar for a waiter to attend us. We left the bar (after the people in the reception saying more than five times that he should be arriving any minute) and went to a nearby bar. At breakfast, the staff was clearly tired and looked clearly tired. Contrary to what the website said, our room didn't have coffee and tea service and no Room Service menu. We've been Vila Gale clients for many years now. Here and Brasil. But we strongly feel that this Hotel group is more focused in expanding to new cities and not improving on existing hotels. Old hotels like this one in Porto are dated and rapidly decaying. And clearly understaffed.

Inspiring & charming

Reviewed 5 june, 2022

Amazing charming place, great location - riverside located, superfriendly staff, great wines, proper rooms, breakfast ok (well, the coffee is of average quality) but the concept of combining the rooms with arts/painters/paintings is lovely, giving the extra kick :)

Dark & Dingy

Reviewed 25 may, 2022

This hotel is dated and on the outskirts of town. It is dark and dingy. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone feels more like a 2 star hotel or equivalent to an old motel 6. SKIP this hotel you can find much better for a similar price point or a tab but more.

Great Hotel away from "Tourist Central"

Reviewed 16 may, 2022

We love hotels a little away from the centre to see a little more of the real city and this was perfect. A short (15-20 min) walk down to riverside or city centre and only a 4 Euro Uber back. Hotel staff are excellent, friendly and speak good English. Breakfast is a comprehensive buffet although can be busy 8-9 as quite a few coaches use the hotel and that must be feeding time before the excursion/departure. Lovely indoor pool, sauna and hot tub on 19th floor which we found practically deserted every weekday morning at 0900.

A Porto MUST DO!

Reviewed 8 december, 2021

1 The Manager, Sr Estavao, gave us a free upgrade to a suite as it was our 30th anniversary. 2 Sr Estavao, sorted out my Covid certificate problem very patiently. 3 My wife became ill when we had our anniversary dinner – NOT the fault of the meal! Sr Alexandre, the waiter, took control and ordered the paramedics and she was taken to hospital for an overnight stay. He was BRILLIANT! 4 Breakfast was worthy of a 5* hotel. SUPERB! 5 All staff were efficient, friendly and professional. 6 The view from our 18th floor suite was breathtaking. 7 When we arrived in our room a staff member arrived with a bottle of cava and a lovely cake with a candle, all for our anniversary. The upgrade had been a terrific surprise and this gesture was MUCH appreciated.
