Not ideal - pool set up no good

Reviewed 15 october, 2022

The hotel room was okay but the noise in corridors overnight was terrible. The pool set up is really bad. Our room was on the 16th floor but we had to go to the ground floor to collect towel (and buy shower cap) with pool on the 19th floor. This can take up to half an hour with the lifts and the pool does not open until 9am which does not allow for a pre breakfast swim. Not sure what made our room a superior, only one coffee pod and one bottle of water which were not replaced for second night and no bathrobes.

Wonderful room with a river view

We stayed in the Vila Gale Porto, Ribeira. We couldn’t ask for anything more. Rooms were amazing and breakfast was good. Staff were excellent. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to stay in Porto. Thank you.

NOT A FOUR STAR HOTEL

Reviewed 11 september, 2022

The building looks quite impressive from the outside but the hotel needs an entire renovation : rooms, hallways, elevators, furniture and fixtures. The housekeeping is just average, There is no safe in the room, just an empty box (see photo)

Not at the level of a 4 star hotel

Reviewed 15 august, 2022

Oh boy, where to start... Look, we booked this because the name "Vila Galé" used to mean something around here, used to have a good reputation... I can see that what's left of that reputation is really just the name. The lady at the reception told us the daily fee for parking, said we could come and go as we pleased. Well, we went out for dinner and when we came back there was no place to park anymore and we had to leave the car outside. Outrageous. No one even warned us this was a possibility... Please keep in mind this is supposed to be a 4* hotel. And in a 4* hotel you expect certain things... My stay wasn't any better than staying at a 3* hotel, I have in fact stayed at better 3* hotels. Here, the rooms are dated, the carpet is full of dirty spots, the AC can give you allergy because they probably don't clean those filters properly, and the window was broken. But the worst part was breakfast. If they can't deal with so many people at breakfast (it was full, a mess) then organize things in a way that you make people tell you at what time they're gonna eat breakfast and do it by turns. So that there's more or less the same amount of people every hour. It's not rocket science. Also, the waiting time for the elevators is terrible. Covid isn't over yet but we are forced to get into a tiny, packed elevator to go to and from breakfast. Ridiculous. 4*? Definitely not. Someone ought to take one star away. It's despicable. And I've noticed they answer negative reviews here with something like "we're sorry that you think this way, unlike the majority of people reviewing us"... The audacity! Do better. Respect reviewers. We're the ones paying, after all. You have so many reviews that even if the negative ones are a minority, that minority is still A LOT of people. I don't recommend this place.

Overall a very good tourist hotel

Reviewed 9 august, 2022

I must agree with many other travelers here the hotel is dated, however, everything is still working functionally. It has an 80's look from the reception till your room. Staff was kind and check in fast. Odd thing are the elevators - 6 of them, all working, but the floors they serve are scattered so you can use only two of them for your floor - never seen that. It gets confusing when you go from the restaurant to the pool or your room. Room was very spacious, had a great city view from 13 floor. Furniture is matured, but beds were comfy. Bathroom likewise. Breakfast was very rich with plenty to choose from and an egg live cooking station. The top floor pool was awesome, very big in size, clean and with great views. Aside is a hot tub and sauna. They have underground private parking for a very reasonable fee of around 7 Euros per day. Location is not in the tourist center, but in a residential area. Plenty options to reach it by public transport, but we preferred walking through local neighborhoods which took us around 20 min. Considering the price of around 100 Euros for double with breakfast, we found it a good deal and would stay again.
