Gardens and pools are fantastic but some staff members not up to the standard

Reviewed 21 march, 2023

What I liked: - The outdoor pools are just a must. Pools are open 24/7 and it is very nice to spend some time there to relax in the evening, when the pools can only be used by the hotel customers. - The garden is extraordinary, very well maintained, with many different species. My only regret is not to have spent more time to stroll, or even go running in the garden (it is quite large). - The indoor pool is also a good option to have a swim. - The hotel is also very well located, in the centre of Furnas. What can be improved: - Some staff members have a 'no we can't attitude'. When I checked-in, I was asked to book a time slot for breakfast on the next day. 9.15 was not possible. It was either 9.00 or 9.30. - Same problem when I wanted to have dinner at the restaurant. The staff at the reception said 'no, fully booked until August 16th' while I was alone and flexible regarding dinner time. I had selected this hotel for the pools and the restaurant and did not have the possibility to have dinner at the restaurant during my stay. I would have appreciated when I booked my stay, as this is a normal process in some other hotels, to receive a message informing me that at that period, the restaurant could easily be fully booked and inviting me to book a table as soon as possible. - I was then invited to go to the bar for a meal. The first day, I waited 20 minutes for a glass of wine and ordered a fish burger. Just disgusting. The fried fish was dry, the buns were dry and came together with a couple of onion pieces and a handful of overgrilled McCain chips... charged 16 euros... - The rooms and beds are comfortable but are beginning to age: a few holes in my bed sheets and the laminated wood floor starting to peel off.

Stayed off season and loved it

Reviewed 6 march, 2023

Really enjoyed our 3 nights at Terra Nostra. We came in low season (late Feb/early Mar) and booking direct via their website we got a rate of 195 Euro per night for dinner bed and breakfast, very good value. We were also upgraded to a garden view room (as we received an email the week before arrived saying the thermal pool would be closed for cleaning on one of the days. Rain or shine it was great to be here. The gardens are beautiful - great to be able to wander in and out whenever we wanted and enjoy them even though there is re-development work going on at the moment. We had one very wet and stormy day which we mostly spent in the huge thermal pool which we loved: the brown water may not appear very inviting from the images, but once inside it is fabulous, and a unique experience at dawn or after dark. We didn’t miss the outdoor jacuzzis at all (temporarily closed). Loved our garden view room, waking up to fresh air and the sound of birdsong from the open balcony door. Loved our cocktails before dinner - the mixologists are brilliant at what they do. What didn’t we enjoy so much? The buffet breakfast didn’t quite hit the spot - plenty of it, but not of the same quality as dinner and we didn’t like the coffee much. The fresh juices were delicious though. And on a general note there was not much warmth in the service, though the majority of staff were efficient and courteous.

Very special, romantic stay!

Reviewed 28 january, 2023

I just adored this garden and hotel. My husband and I were so enchanted. This hotel and the grounds will forever be locked in my memories. I wish I could have stayed more nights. It’s so relaxing. The breakfast was so good. I loved the cone shaped pancakes. They were dense, and delicious. I wish I had the recipe! The dinner at the hotel was also very memorable with the Sommelier coming to our table to make sure we had just the right wine. I try to steer everyone to this incredible island and Terra Nostra Gardens. Thank you for the memories!

Hotel in remodelations

Reviewed 15 january, 2023

In the time of check in we notice that outside jacuzzi is in remodelations (for us is the best reason of stay in the hotel, the outside jacuzzi) and we never receid a notice of that part will be closed. The staff lady tell us we dont received notice because we are not there costumers because we not booking in there website. Well this not make sense, we pay for the stay, we are the same, costumers, doesn't matter if make reservation in the official website or not. If we received a notification that the jacuzzi would be closed we will changed our stay for the other time of the year. We are regular COSTUMERS  but this time we very sad wirh the lobby staff and of the comuniction .

Classy, elegant, timeless

Liked · Aside of well renown location and historical presence and ambience, we also enjoyed the food and service. The restaurant on dinner service has one of the best staff we ever seen, and the service itself is impeccable, ultra polite and forthcoming. The choice of food was great - we had 4 dinners where, and never been short on new dish or new Azorian wine to try. The room (suite) was moderate in size for a suite, yet well organized and comfortable. The hotel is very generous in giving some presents and small things every day - like sweets twice per day! Tea & espresso facilities. The direct access to the park and ability to be there off the public hours is also very special thing. We also enjoyed billiard table in the bar on the evenings. Disliked · The parking is small, restricted to guests only, still a bit crampy (the city center overall is very packed and tight on parking - while a little further, next to Octant hotel, there plenty of free park spaces). The breakfast could have more variety or buffet, otherwise you have to stick to the daily offering plus some general bread/cheese/etc (albeit the bread was very nice!). The lunch is a tricky, as you have to use the bar + outdoor area, with a lot of Park guests coming in as well. Here, while appreciate the priority treatment for hotel guests and nice cocktails, I was shocked by the fact that people are still allowed to smoke right at the table in the cafeteria.
