British / English review

Reviewed 20 january, 2022

This review will be in sections so you can skip to bits you want to know about. Overall we had a great holiday but some things could be improved - pool scene, indoor facilities and food options. Staff: Every member of staff we encountered was very friendly and welcoming, always seemed happy to help, didn't treat guests differently whether they were in the hotel's premier club or not, and did not treat you any less if you did not tip like American guests do. We tip at the end of the holiday as we don't carry cash around an all inclusive resort but this is normal for American guests. Some staff remembered our names after day 1. Bartender remembered my drinks order and would just say same again which is great. Grounds, Maintenance & Cleaning: Gardens were immaculate and tended to daily, coconut trees were checked every morning to ensure safety. Rooms were cleaned well. There is an app where you can request more towels, shampoo, room clean etc. You can also report any maintenance issues, for example our air conditioning broke and we reported it on the app and it was fixed without us having to leave the beach. Room: We had the smallest, cheapest room and it looked much bigger than in the pictures. The bed was comfortable and we never heard our neighbours. The balcony was nice with a limited sea view overlooking the pool and gardens - so nice that this is where my fiance proposed to me! You can order room service via the TV. It is a smart TV however Netflix doesn't work abroad. Rainforest shower was great but I do miss not having baths. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash were all good quality and I never normally use the stuff in hotels. They all smelt amazing. There is WiFi throughout the hotel, excellent connection everywhere. Food & Drinks: Drinks were all incredible, such a wide variety of cocktails, generous portions of alcohol, all premium spirits, never watered down. Drinks were delivered to you on the beach and by the pool which is fantastic. You have to pay for the floating bar and I only saw the margaritas on the move once in 11 days. The food for me was not the best. It was very limited and repetitive in my personal opinion. I had read previous reviews before going which stated this and I thought oh well I'm sure it is fine. It is fine, but repetitive. Very limited menus. There is a breakfast buffet which is wonderful as you can choose what you like. This is served by staff behind a glass screen which I love for covid safety. Food was okay but the bacon was terrible, always black and burnt to a crisp, maybe this is how they eat it over there. Rita's for lunch is great but pretty much only tacos every day. The two evening restaurants have a great atmosphere, it is a shame people turn up in flip flops and vests sometimes, but on the other hand very nice if you don't like dressing up to go somewhere fancier. I did get sick at one part of the holiday which was not due to alcohol but might not be from the food. Joe Merchant: This is a super cool part of the holiday which we loved. You can personalise hour mini bar with whatever snacks and drinks you like from the shop. You pay via your wrist bracelet which is also the key. I love this as a key and not having to carry a card around, however mine was way too big and they didn't have smaller sizes. I managed to secure mine around my Fitbit. Your bracelet has points on, we had 27000 for our small room over 11 nights. We did not use all of our points so used them to buy gifts at the end of the trip. If you have never been America/Mexico, their chocolate in my opinion is not as good as ours so save your points. They also did hot drinks and fresh sandwiches here which do not require points. Pools & Beach: The beach is gorgeous, it is cleaned daily by staff raking the seaweed and a tractor collects it all, it hardly smells. There will be seaweed in the sea when you want to swim, the hotel can do nothing about that. The pool scene for me is a disappointment as I love pools. Here they are cold and very small. I tried doing lengths in the children's pool as it is rectangular, however if children came along there is no room and I would have to leave. The pool in the 'chill out area' is shallow. For me it makes sense to have the shallow pool for the children. We could usually locate a sun lounger, however guests did still put towels out and leave and one day we could not find one at all which was frustrating. I did see a member of staff removing towels if loungers were unoccupied which I liked but could be done more frequently. Entertainment & Activities: Entertainment was average. There were not many guests at the hotel at all. When we did Spanish lessons it was just my partner and I. Tequila tasting, mixology class and guacamole cooking class were good and again not many guests. I noticed some activities did not go ahead as mentioned. Cheeseburger party was excellent, if there's one thing to make sure you don't miss it's this. Also, get there on time because they ran out of burgers at 40 minutes in. Bands were weekly so would repeat. There are no shows but they do have live music. You can go paddle boarding and kayaking for a $5 fee paid once for use throughout the holiday. The issue is there's a seaweed barrier the prevents you from really going anywhere. There are people walking up and down the beach who will try to sell you excursions for snorkelling or scuba diving. We did go snorkelling but with TUI. My issue with entertainment is there is nothing indoors and it rained for at least 3 days while we were there so we had nothing to do. Spa & Fitness Centre: This smells strongly of margaritas. Which is delightful at first but then quite sickly, especially when working out in the gym. The gym was a decent size with mild Aircon. Always got on the equipment I wanted. You have to book in advance a one hour time slot which is good for covid safety. I did not use the spa. Every day we had spa workers approach us on the beach which is their job but I personally don't like being disturbed while I'm relaxing so that they can get money out of me. Animals & Wildlife: One thing I hated is the hotel had men walking around with parrots asking if we wanted our photo taken. Parrots belong in the wild, free, not an accessory for people to make money from. There were so many lizards which I love seeing in hot countries. We also saw an iguana or some other larger lizard which was cool, he always hung out by the speaker at the chill out pool. There were raccoons which I loved but I think Americans view as pests/vermin. If you do go snorkelling, we saw sea turtles, a squid and a sting ray - definitely recommend. If you're scared of birds then you have a problem... Birds always flying into the restaurants outdoors at beach house and Rita's. I personally didn't mind and staff always tried to shoo them away. Overall an excellent holiday. It's a great hotel to base yourself at but you 100% need to do day trips to break it up so you don't get bored. We did 3 different days out in 11 days.

Relaxing & Fun!

Margaritaville Island Resort was such a fantastic get away! The resort was so relaxing , clean and beautifully decorated! The staff was fantastic with having activities to do, being responsive to requests, and having a variety of food options! I want to give a huge shoutout to the bartenders too! They made fantastic drinks and were super friendly! Joel & Antonio were the most entertaining and fun to be around bartenders! Antonio makes the best pineapple vodkas I have ever had! This trip was one to remember!

Margaritaville Island Resort a trip to remember

Reviewed 16 january, 2022

What a great resort and trip. We stayed here for 10 days with three other couples. We celebrated New Years Eve, my sister-in-laws birthday any my husband’s retirement while we were here. Jesus was the first person who greeted us. He handled our bags brought us something to drink and showed us to our room. For the rest of our stay he always greeted us and was willing to do anything to make our stay enjoyable including the day we checked out. Then there was Paco and Aron who couldn’t do enough for us. We had a great time at the NY Eve Beach Party. My sister-in-law enjoyed her birthday and I would especially like to thank them for all their efforts to make my husband’s retirement a day he will remember. I can’t forget Julio who kept us entertained each day and Ceaser, Antonio, Luis and Omar who also went out of their away to make it a trip to remember.

Beautiful little resort

We are currently staying here. We arrived yesterday after a 16 hour journey from England. All the staff we have met so far have been friendly and helpful. The gardens and walkways around the hotel are beautiful. We are in a paradise room and the view is amazing. The bell boy who took us to our room pointed things out en route. We ate at the beach house last night all the food we had was lovely and there was plenty of choice. We were even joined by a racoon. My only slight niggle was that as a returning Karisma guest this was nor recognised in any way. Previously at the El dorado seaside suites they had left a lovely welcome back note, tshirts and sparking wine. This is not a big deal as sparking wine is included in our holiday however it did make us feel welcome and that our custom was valued. Looking forward very much to the rest of our stay.

The hotel experience was exceptional. From the time we checked in. The support staff (baggage handlers) were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I would like to acknowledge Jesus along with his team. Breakfast each morning was also outstanding with the staff who greets you at the entrance. I like to acknowledge Omar,Luis & Antonio. The day activities were lead by Julio who kept us entertained. Dinner we enjoyed at all the restaurants but I would like to also thank Cesar who went out of his way to make our experience delightful. Last but not Least I would like to thank Paco and Aron for all their attention during the 10 days that we were there. They made sure my wife’s birthday, my brother in law’s dinner retirement and New Year’s Eve on the beach were a experience we will never forget. Thank you all. Mike & Linda Meile
