Definitely NOT 5 Star.

Before I start I would just like to say we have stayed in the Dominican Republic previously and it was absolutely wonderful - with RIU. Where to start: so many things wrong: Mini bar consisted of one tiny tin of Coors light (not real beer) - maybe it was a mini tin for the mini bar, a bottle of coke two bottles of water and a lemonade. We phoned three times and asked twice in person if they would stock the bar. Nothing, Nada. Staff do not pay attention and even on reception do not have enough basic English to understand requests. One exception- Angelina- excellent. I waited and asked for her on day three and we got a load of bottles of water three cokes, two sprite and TWO tiny tins of Coors light. We gave up on the mini bar. Water; had to call guest services every night just to get water, even though room had been "serviced". The maid service in the room is rubbish. Besides the "no water", we even had to ask for toilet rolls! I mean, how difficult is the one to us, one in reserve concept. Food: definitely not five star. We tried the Under-the-Sea restaurant one evening and there really was not much actual seafood on offer. Our Grandson ordered steak and was presented with a huge plate of burger and fries. In all the restaurants there does not appear to be an understanding of appetiser & main course? It all comes out together. WORMS in the guava. Not one worm ....... infested. Waitress seemed shocked and took it away. No apology, no nothing- maybe its an every day thing? This was in the Trattoria in the Royalton. Don't be misled by the hype that says you can use the other hotels facilities. You cannot use any of the restaurants apart from the Trattoria. Not sure if you can upgrade to Diamond to use facilities at other Royalton.

My family and I just recently visited this resort. Upon checking in only one of our 3 rooms were ready. Now I do understand that we arrived at 10 minutes to 3 and 3pm is check in time. It took about an hour and a half for all 3 rooms to be ready. I had asked if possible to have an adjoining room for my minor child ( granted a teenager) who was sharing a room with his grandmother. I was told the they would be close. We were on opposite ends of the building, rooms 103 and 131. I do not consider that close. Their room was freezing!!!!! They set the temp to 30 degrees Celsius and still slept with sweatpants and sweatshirts. Our air conditioner didn't work properly as out room was hot. When asked about switching rooms I was told to come back in the morning. Upon returning in the morning, I was told to comeback at 3. At 3 I was told to come back at 7. After a little arguing we were given new rooms. The workers in the lobby were rude and lackadaisical. We found out the hard way that there are no elevators in the buildings. So good luck if you are on the 3rd floor. The shower was uneven so all of the water would pool at the far end of the shower. The maid service wasn't that good either. We were getting ready for the pool and asked her to give us 5 minutes, she never cleaned the room that day. It seemed as though they didn't start cleaning until late morning, early afternoon. If you go to Bites take a drink with you!!! My husband asked for cups for drinks and the worker told him to go next door to the coffee shop to get cups!!!! The second time we went there to eat (there was nothing else open) we asked again for cups and were told, no soda. So here we are eating burgers and fries with NOTHING to drink. We were never given our vouchers for the hotel credits. The "food truck" didn't offer drinks either. The gift shop would be locked up in the middle of the day. The workers at the two gift shops that I went to were miserable. At the restaurants, unless you are drinking alcohol don't expect any refills on drinks. Honestly, I would NEVER return or recommend this hotel. Spend the extra money to go somewhere else.
Great family vacation at Royalton Splash Punta Cana

Great relaxing vacation at the Royalton splash Punta Cana. Diamond Club came with a few perks that we enjoyed such an exclusive pool, access to all restaurant at Royalton and Royalton Splash and a butler. Edwin was our assigned butler for the week and he was amazing. He made sure that everything was good, booked our a la carte restaurants and re-booked as needed (eg, we missed the steakhouse one day and was able to re-book us the next day) and made sure we had all the information required from check-in to check-out. Room was spacious and clean on a schedule everyday. Juana made sure to leave us a surprise with flowers everyday. King was comfortable but sofa bed and cot could have been more comfortable. Food was good. There was more choices at the Royalton buffet. Drinks were good as well, especially the Bellinis at the bubbles pool bar made with strawberry daiquiri slush.

Wow! What an amazing holiday we had to Royalton Splash Punta Cana. The moment we arrived, we were greeted by a member of staff and invited straight to the Diamond Club reception. A lovely air- conditioned area where we were offered refreshments, hot towels and greeted with smiles and warmth. We were then introduced to Soni, our wonderful Butler. We weren’t sure what to expect having never experienced having a butler before, but Soni was so jolly, friendly and made eye contact with everyone in my family, conversing directly with my children, as well as us, showing his genuine care and warmth to us. Soni showed us around the resort. My children (7 – 13yrs) instantly liked Soni as did we. Soni took care of all our restaurant bookings, checking in with us at least daily and keeping regular contact with my husband via whats app. Soni would regularly ask if there was anything we needed, for our room, for the pool, help with excursions and always made us feel special. It was our youngest daughter’s birthday at the end of the holiday and Soni arranged for our room and her bed to be decorated with petals and balloons. We had also selected Hunters for dinner and Soni worked with the staff there to set up a beautiful birthday table arrangement, and even arranged for a birthday cake for our daughter. The staff sang Happy Birthday to her in their wonderful Dominican way. Our daughter was so thrilled, as were we. The attention to detail was so good. We will miss Soni and hope to see him again. Other staff who made our stay so special were those at the Diamond Club pool. Luis the wonderful Diamond Pool butler, who always seemed to know when refreshments would be well received – certainly kept me topped up with my favourite Bellini’s! He would set up the towels on the bed for us, regularly ask if we would like more drinks or food and would also offer around fruit sticks to us and other Diamond Club members. The bar staff at the Diamond Club - Elby, Elias, Clarivel and Jose were also so attentive and such good fun. They all became friends to us during our stay. Our room was kept so clean and the turn-down service was such a lovely treat. My daughter would leave little thank you notes and pictures and the turn-down staff would always leave a little note back wishing us a happy evening – such a nice touch! We were so pleased with the Diamond Club service, which meant we could eat in every restaurant across both Royalton Splash and Royalton Punta Cana, enjoy the private beach area, pool and beach club at PC as well as beautiful DC pool at the Splash side. The walk between the two hotels was just 5 mins and we loved to look at the wild birds and the turtles in the small pond along the side of the pavement as we walked. We watched the entertainment at PC side, enjoyed the slides and pools of the Splash side. Hunters, Grazie and Zen were our favourite restaurants. The live cookery show at Zen is a must-see! The breakfast buffet at Splash was amazing with so much choice and the evening buffet at PC offered so much variety too, again lovely staff at both. The beach at PC was well maintained with daily beach combing, the traders who casually walk around are were also very nice and were not pushy. In fact, we found this way of buying souvenirs lovely and relaxing! We did a couple of great excursions – swimming with dolphins where we had plenty of time with the dolphin, which delighted us all, and a boat trip to swim with sharks and stingray followed by a trip to a natural pool with ‘floating bar’ and the most amazing local rum/coconut cocktail on board! Entertainment was very good, our favourite night was the White Night which was a beach party at PC with fire performers on the beach, acrobats and amazing saxophonist and professional dancers, followed by fun party dances which carried on until you drop. A Michael Jackson Tribute and the Rock Show were also favourites. Overall, we had amazing holiday, the staff were fabulous (thank you all), the hotel grounds so well kept and pretty to look at, room clean and always well stocked, great entertainment, we would definitely go again.

Jonathan was my butler during my holiday and he was amazing. He helped us when he had problems with the room. He booked our family reservations for the al acarte restaurants and they were beautiful. He made sure we had a great holiday. Thanks Jonathan 🙂
