I am currently staying at Riu Palace Punta Cana...I can't wait to leave. The food is horrible, majority of the staff are rude. They make you feel like a burden. We were sent here from the Riu Palace Macao after they messed up our reservation. That hotel is even worse. More detailed review of both resorts coming soon!!!!! I've traveled to DR many times but this is the first and LAST time I will be visiting the RIU brand resorts.

Nice hotel, Great staff. Rubiella at the buffet was helpful, friendly. Plusses: grounds are great, rooms well appointed, staff. Negatives: smaller restaurants are impersonal, cold and gives you the why am I hear feeling. Buffet is good, steakhouse good. Drinks are watered down.

The highlight of this resort is definitely the staff. Almost everyone we dealt with was helpful, fun, and added to our positive experience. The resort itself is quite nice visually, and it's a plus to have the larger Riu property to roam as well. There is a water park at the other end of the property that is fun for a few hours, although it's a bit of a walk. The food is a bit hit or miss. Some of the theme restaurants were quite good, while some we definitely had no interest in going back to for a second time. The buffet is a good spot for breakfast and has the usual stations (omelettes, sandwiches) that you would expect. We tried both lunch buffet locations and they were good as well. Although again, some of the food is hit or miss in the buffets too. The beach and pools are kept in great shape and the vendors on the beach are not very pushy. The servers in the pool area are great, although it can be a bit hard to get a drink when it is busy. All of the less busy bars are located closer to the lobby, so you either have to wait for service by the pool or make the long walk back towards that area. For the price, it is hard to complain about anything at this hotel. We felt like we got great value and had no regrets going here. It did not seem like tipping was very common among the Euro crowd, so when we tipped even a small amount, we got fantastic service. Staff who went above and beyond for us during our stay were Victor in the Sports Bar, Ariel by the pool, and Willy in the buffet area. Also, the manager who got a stream of F1 going in the Sports Bar deserves a shoutout as well.
Great hotel but some serious lack of security

Overall it's a lovely hotel and the food is excellent but the reason I have given two stars is it feels very unsafe and was told if I complain about the issues I have found I would be asked to leave the hotel. If you want to come here you need to be aware that they will not be wiling to assist you and will fob you off. I was told Riu have a reputation to defend but have seen drug taking, selling and am shocked at how blasie they are about it.
