Felt great to return after almost 2 years!

I originally booked this hotel but due to renovations we were upgraded to the Bavaro. I will review that hotel separately but because we had access to this hotel & we have stayed here numerous times I felt the need to review it post covid. After almost 2 years of not being able to travel it felt great to be back. My party & I were anxious to see our old friends & find out how their fared during this covid fiasco. It was great to see that most of the buffet staff and Bar staff are still there. We were greeting with open arms & yes hugs which we gladly gave in return. Due to the ongoing renovation most a lot of the restaurants/buffets were closed. The main one the Higuey was opened for breakfast & dinner. The beach grill was opened for lunch. We were used to a level of quality of food so we were a little disappointed with the lack there of it. Pre-covid we would be able to get granola bars, crackers etc.. at breakfast, that is no longer the case. There were morning when they even ran out of Nutella!!! The lunch time grill was no more, they had it maybe twice in a week, we were used to Paella, grilled meat etc..The main question is " Where is the beef?". We were used to having grilled beef every day, the 2 weeks we were there we never saw any beef at lunch time and it was basically the same food over and over, there was no more variety. The same can be said for dinner, ex: during their Dominican night it was basic but over at the Bavaro we had grilled lobster and all kinds of seafood, I don't know if this is because of the renovations or they are lowering the standards of these 2 sister hotels. Entertainment: Well we were all extremely disappointed to learn that the Star Band was let go which means no more music and dancing in the Punta Cana lobby, no more band with the shows. There were only 5 animation staff working on any given day & they worked hard, a shout out to, Naomi, Debra, Popeye, Michael, Kedwin & Evelyn.... The shows were not at the same caliber pre-covid. This is one thing that was very sad. I really hope they re-think their decision to bring back the Star Band. They did have singers most night since the discos remain closed they were the entertainment after the show. Aside from that, the beach was always kept cleaned, there were a lack of chairs given the fact that the hotel was at less than 50% capacity there should have been an abundance but there is less beach space now since the Coral & the Prestige club have taken up pretty much 50% of the space. In terms of Covid precautions, all staff work masks all day, we also had to wear masks in any enclosed space including the buffets. They were very rigid with this rule which we thought was great. Even though we were booked at the Bavaro we spent over 80% of the time here, we just enjoyed the ambience and staff so much more. We felt like we were home. It is crazy the number of repeat customers that come to this hotel, I really hope they will go back to the way it was.

Mr. Mariachi and the entertainment group was excellent. Activities at the pool and theater were fun and interactive. The food was pretty good, although the variety doesn't change much at the buffets. The reservation restaurants were nice and quiet. Make sure you reserve early in your trip as they fill up quickly.

The resort in my opinion was average. The waiters were very attentive, however the rooms are outdated, the food was mediocre, and the buffet wasn’t covered properly. It was a lot of people breathing over the food and that’s a health hazard especially with Covid-19 going around. Also, there wasn’t any turn down service. The shows were nice though. I definitely would not stay again or recommend it. It definitely isn’t a 5 star hotel.

This resort is amazing!! Staff are very professional and friendly. They remember us by name. Great for family vacations, great food and service. Huge pool right off the beach. Huge resort, lots of walking down beautiful pathways. Jorge at Mexican restaurant is the best!! We loved staying at this resort. You won’t regret it.
Great spot for friends, family, or couples!

To be honest, I came here not expecting much because the price was so reasonable. I was blown away by how much I enjoyed this place. Honestly, everything was fantastic and I couldn’t have enjoyed myself more. I will say, I wish the staff were paid better and realize how much they rely on tips- so please please make sure you bring tip money and don’t forget to tip the entertainment staff and others who you may not typically think to tip!! They make very little and rely on tips and will be so thankful to you if you do! I highly recommend this place and plan to return as soon as I can
