Vista Sol Punta Cana

Reviewed 29 november, 2021

We have stayed in Vista Sol for two weeks from Nov. 8, 2021 Very nice hotel, beautiful landscape and Nice people working there. Whatever problem we had it was solved immediately. Everyone wants to help. We had room in building 10 on main floor and we loved it! Could go straight to the pool! We liked a la carte restaurants: Asian, Mexican and Italian, buffet was good too. You can always find something that you will like. Special thanks to Ramona from pool bar and all front desk staff! Doing great job! One thing that I complain are soft drinks like seven up. Smells like bleach! Please check it out! This is not only our opinion. Another kind of problem was that some guests next to our room use speaker on the balcony playing very loud Russian music. Another pool users ask them to turn down but they totally ignore them. Other than that great resort to stay. Enjoy!

Awesome Holiday

A lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Amazing and friendly staff, tasty food (especially in the Teppanyaki restaurant). The animation team and the DJ made our vacation even better (thanks for so much fun). If you look for a place to enjoy and have fun you are completly right.

Nice beach and territory, but noisy and crowded

Reviewed 14 november, 2021

Positive: 1. Wonderful warm ocean with almost no sargassum. 2. Beautiful green territory with flamingo, iguanas, etc. 3. No mosquitoes. 4. Coffee, burgers and even some fruits are available a whole day at the restaurant on the beach. 5. WiFi is free everywhere, including the rooms, and occasionally is it available in some spots on the beach. Negative: 1. Lines at the buffet. The hotel is almost full on weekdays with the majority of guests being Russians, and overcrowded with locals on weekends. Overcrowded means there are no clean tables at the buffet, lines are for everything from fruits and pasta to coffee and soft drinks, not enough cups and glasses, no cutlery and so on. On weekdays lines are up to 5 minutes, which is more or less acceptable. Lines to tea/coffee machines might be much longer because a few of these machines are regularly out of order. There is no air conditioning at the buffet, and most people have their masks on chin. Distance between people in the lines is 0.5 metres at the best case (but nothing terrible in comparison with 2 hour lines to the passport control in Toronto airport). If you are concerned about masks and social distancing just do not travel. 2. A construction at the right part of the hotel. If you get a pool-view room at Building 10 or 8 you will see the workers and the construction machines every time when you entering/leaving your room (windows however face the pool). They start working before 8 am and finish at about 6 pm. Most of time they are relatively quiet, but a few days it was so noisy that I couldn't rest after lunch. If you want to guaranteed be away from it, book a sea-view room. At the hotel the upgrading to a sea-view from a pool-view is 25 USD per day, and from a garden view 15 USD per day. 3. Shows at the Theatre are extremely noisy. Shows are from 9.30 to 11 pm. You can hear them even at the beach. No chance to sleep before 11pm, at least at the nearest to the Theatre buildings. 4. The checking-in is very slow. 5. The pillows are very uncomfortable. My ears hurt every morning. 6. The shampoo tube is clogged, I would recommend to bring your own shampoo. Dominican Republic charges $20 of departure tax. It's not included in the packages, at least Sunwing doesn't include it. For those who are lucky to have Mr. Trudeau and the Liberals as the government: The PCR test is 105 USD. You should schedule it at a special desk at the lobby (not on the reception). A lady at this desk works from 9 to 5 Monday to Friday. There is a medical centre onsite. If you have the test at 9 am the results will be available same day after 5 pm (it's a paper form, so you have to pick it up from a medical centre; no option to check the results online). The nurse was very gentle, I didn't feel any pain or discomfort. In my opinion, the probability of getting a false positive is striving for zero, however in this case your plan B is Laboratorio Referencia near the Punta Cana airport. They work 24 hours per day and offer express PCR test for 80 USD with the results in 8 hours; the taxi is 35 USD one-way. You are not obliged to quarantine at your hotel, renting an apartment would be your plan C.

AWESOME week at Vista Sol!

Reviewed 13 november, 2021

First things first, I would definitely go to this resort again and would recommend it to easy going people who just want to relax. The staff were all great, very friendly and hard working. The animation staff kept us busy and were really fun to hang out with. The a la carte restaurants were all delicious and had great service. There is a touchscreen in the lobby to book and you can book all week at once, best reservation system ever! We only had the buffet for breakfast and lunch and while the variety wasn't great, there was always something to fill us up. The KFC chicken was soooooooo good! This was definitely a place to unwind and relax, once the sun set there wasn't much to do so we actually got to bed at a reasonable time and were up early to enjoy the sun. It was always easy to get 4 chairs together on the beach, but if you want a chair by the pool you would have to be there before 9. Everyone seemed to love that Canadians were starting to come back and really showed their appreciation for us choosing them as a destination. We tipped a little more than we usually do because these spots have been hit as hard as anyone over the past year and a half and I think it was really appreciated. Lots of people didn't seem to tip at all, which seemed odd to me considering how hard everyone works. We had one Beachfront Suite (Golden Club) and one regular room and they were both very nice. The suite had beer in the fridge every day and you could hear the ocean from the balcony. Loved it! It was a long walk to the main building, but worth it if you want the ocean vibe in your room. The regular room only had water in the room and was much closer to everything, but no ocean view :-) Air conditioning and hot water were always perfect! There were a few shortcomings: getting tables ready for people in the buffet, short on coffee cups and cutlery, lineups at the bars sometimes and the repetitiveness of the buffets, but these are definitely problems of the 1%, not anything that would take away from the beauty of where we were. I could go on and on about all the good things... great mixed drinks, perfectly manicured grounds, peacocks wandering around! A few bonus observations... $90 USD each for the PCR Covid test, done onsite, took about 5 minutes, super organized. $500 USD to see the doctor for a plugged ear (we opted out, but make sure you know what your international health insurance coverage is). Fill out your ArriveCan app BEFORE you go to the airport to come home. You will have to do the E-ticket twice (once upon arrival and once before departure). It was pretty chaotic at the airport because nobody (including us) seemed to know they had to fill these things out until they got to the counter. All in all, the whole travel experience felt safe and smooth, you should not hesitate to go, and if you're thinking of staying here, and you're pretty relaxed, DO IT! Ping me with any questions you might have!

Would not recommend

Reviewed 31 october, 2021

Just came back from a 7 day stay there. Quite dissatisfied. The territory, the beach, pools all nice. People working there are nice as well and trying very hard. Now about all that I was disappointed with. Food selection at the buffet is poor, the same stuff every day, for the most part overcooked and dry. When hotel is full they struggle to keep up with providing clean dishes, silverware, cups, etc. A la carte restaurants are not any better, except for Mexican and Asian in my opinion. And the Gourmet restaurant topped them all, I’d like to recommend the top managers to taste their steak dish. Personally, I’ve never tried anything worse, felt like chowing on the bottom of your shoe. The rooms are clean and being serviced every day with good quality and by very nice people. Unfortunately they can only do so much to make you comfortable… the pillows there are probably 20 years old and nothing better is available unless you bring your own. They only give you one bath towel per person and I had to ask for a face/hand towel by increasing my normal room service tip amount. They also don’t provide a shampoo if someone can even believe it. The funny part is they give you bar soap, bath gel and hair conditioner but no shampoo!!! And there is no tip that would help you here. I was told they simply don’t have it. Internet only works in spots surrounding the lobby and couple of restaurants by the beach. Our room was facing the main pool and the lobby and you could only use WiFi being out on the balcony and even then the signal was pretty weak. Overall I would not rate this place more than 2 stars and that might even be too high for them. I have been to many different all inclusive places in DR, Mexico, Bahamas, Jamaica. This one is the worst by far. Will not come back, will not recommend to anyone
