Way too flawed for the price tag
The property is beautiful and top-notch, with large and very well-appointed rooms, a beautiful pool (although extremely cold), and great restaurants. The location is great in Punta Maroma, having a large and secluded stretch of beach. The hotel feels exclusive and luxurious. However, the flaws were too many for the price tag, which spoils the whole experience. The hotel charges US$800 + per night. For the same price, you’re able to stay at the Rosewood, Banyan Tree, and pretty much any hotel in the Riviera Maya where the experience is flawless. I would like to point out a couple of the several issues we experienced during our stay: i. Check-in: We booked a double room with two queen-sized beds. During check-in, Fernanda, the front desk agent, didn’t confirm our type of room, so we supposed our booking reservation was being honored. My reservation indicated that half of my stay was being charged at the time of booking and the other half was supposed to be paid at check-in (we booked through their webpage). When I mentioned the above to Fernanda, she insisted that I had to pay for the whole stay regardless of the booking policy, so she told me I had to pay for the whole stay, and then she would confirm with their reservations department and I had to confirm with my bank. I believe a 5-star hotel approach would’ve been the other way around: wait until she confirms with the reservations department, and then proceed with the charge. After paying we asked Fernanda to book us a table at Bu’ul, she said she would book it and confirm with us. At 5:00 pm we realized she didn’t make the reservation and we had to book again. ii. First Room: When we arrived at our room, we realized they gave us a King sized bedroom regardless of our booking. After letting the bellboy know that the room was wrongly assigned, he contacted the front desk. They apologized for the confusion and offered to move us to the correct room, which would be ready briefly. We agreed and asked them to please heat the plunge pool in the new room so that we could use it upon arrival. All this happened at 1:30 pm so we headed to the beach to wait for our new room. At 5:00 pm, no one had contacted us regarding the new room although we asked our waiter a couple of times. It started raining and the weather was freezing so we had to run to the pool concierge’s cabana and ask again for our room. We waited inside for a couple of minutes until they came back to take us to our new room. iii. Second Room: When we arrived at the second room, our luggage had already been placed inside so we were simply dropped there. The first surprise, the pool was literally freezing. They completely disregarded our request. The second surprise, the room keys didn’t work. I had to walk all the way to the lobby under the rain to request new keys. No apologies at all. By now, it was already 6:00 pm and there was no pool because of the rain and no plunge pool because it was not heated. Third surprise, no hot water in the room (sinks, shower, etc.). We reported the problem on several occasions. In conclusion, we didn’t have hot water during our whole stay, only mildly warm water. The fourth surprise, the TV was not working properly, and the Bluetooth speaker was not working at all. We called, and a technician fixed the TV but couldn’t fix the Bluetooth speaker, so no speaker at all. At night, around 12:00 am, the light system in the room started to act funny (lights were not turning off, drapes were not working). We called the front desk 7 times (literally) and no one answered as if we were staying in a B&B. We were able to fix the issue but imagine if we had a real emergency. Unacceptable at a 5-star hotel. iv. Check out: We booked a rate that gave us 20% off all food and beverage. At dinner, we had to remind the waiter of the discount after he brought the check, but we forgot to check if the discount was applied to the pool’s afternoon bill. I mentioned the front desk staff if they could check and it took them almost 10 minutes to do so. Otherwise, a smooth check out. However, the front desk staff is not very friendly. The pool service was amazing, especially from Belisario and Salomon, they were great! Also, service at Bu’ull and Kaban was top notch. The food was great at the pool, Kaban and Bu’ul, everything was delicious! Overall, my experience was way too flawed to justify the prices they charge. If you’re trying to decide whether you should stay here, I would look somewhere else (Rosewood, Banyan Tree, or Nizuc).
Incredible, relaxing vacation!
My husband and I spent the most amazing week here. The place itself is beautiful, the beach is peaceful and secluded. The food is amazing, we enjoyed the different restaurants and the outdoor bbq. We thought the service was outstanding, especially from Gaby, Hector and Rodolfo. And the gorgeous villa with the morning coffee and pastries, incredible! We can't wait to go back!
Wow! Bali quality
No words. I can be a picky customer but everything about Chable is amazing. The service, the gourmet food, the beach, the villas and the wild animals. Absolute Indonesian heaven just few hours from the US. I give a standing ovation.
Hard to fault
I’ve been living in Mexico for 10 years and I’ve been lucky enough to visit some amazing hotels during that time. The Chablé Maroma is now in my top 3. The rooms are stunning and have heated private pools, the beach is beautiful and the food is great. Chablé is a Yucatán chain so most of the staff come from that region and they are the nicest and most genuine you are likely to meet. The main restaurant Bu’ul is run by celebrated chef Jorge Vallejo whose Mexico City restaurant Quintonil regularly ranks in the top 20 in the world. This is a very stylish hotel that is better suited to couples than families.
Bad Maintenance Poorly Managed
We are resident in Mexico City and have decided to spend 3 nights at Chable Maroma. On their website it looks perfect, 2 years old hotel with a restaurant overlooked by one of the most acclaimed Mexican Chef. Realty is anotherone...The entrance gate is more the one of a backpacer lodge than a 5 stars...the reseption floor is dirty, the lamp hats are upsidedown, but in the middle, there s a signboard to remember the yet to be unbelievable: Member of the leading hotels of the world. We entered the room and it was smelling mouldy, not only smelling, you could also see the mould sticked and trapped all over the room furniture. On the wall, the paint is going away, the pool light was faulty. We complained: No managers on duty, all gone for the week end. Finaly a bell boy came and offered us another room near the reception area, ours was close to the beach...we refused. Then they gave us a king size bed bedroom, in wich they brought in 2 extra bed, reducing the living space. That room was better but, the pool light was in that case Blinking, on and off...no repairs were done nor offered. The doors are very hard to close, the outside shower sink was clogged and all the waste came inside. We have asked for a refund and another bellboy pretending to be a manager claimed it is prohibited by their management...then we were trapped and had to stay. The surrounding are terrible, it looks a warzone ground zero. The mangrove surrounding the hotel is full of rubbish, never cleaned by the staff. Papers, polyform trays, plastic, you could find all these, just by your room. The garden is not maintained, within 3 days we have never seen a gardener. They are doing some works, don t know where then hear the noise of the caterpillar all day... The walkway around the hotels are dark brown, due to the lack of maintenance. The only positive note is the restaurant fine dining, but only open 3 nights weekly. This is a place to AVOID at all cost. Coming there is a waste of time and money, while complaining and not being entertained we highlighted the matter that we ll tell our story on TA...their answer was: go ahead, which we are now doing. We attach pictures ...that speaks by theirselves
