Great family option in Raleigh!

We don’t usually stay in Residence Inn’s however our travel plans had us in Raleigh for a night and this hotel had the best option for our family of five. I have to say I was really impressed! The rooms were spacious, clean and updated. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast area was really comfortable. This was one of the nicer Residence Inn’s I’ve stayed in!

Failed at my two requirements: good sleep and a decent shower

The hotel was clean and modern and the staff were friendly, but the shower pressure was completely unusable and the toilet failed to flush on most attempts. I tried to put in a maintenance request but as told "oh, those are water saving, there's nothing they can do". Additionally, there were loud train horns continuously throughout the night, particularly around 3:30am, which woke me up every night. I've never noticed this in Raleigh when staying at other properties. I require only two things from a hotel: a good night's sleep, and a decent shower. The Residence Inn Raleigh Downtown provided neither.

Perfect location by the convention center. Friendly, efficient staff. Rooms are large, immaculate, and quiet. Nice breakfast included in the room rate. I really can't find anything I would say needs improvement, I don't think I've ever thought that of a hotel before!

I have stayed at the Residence Inn several times in the past as an attendee of the annual IBMA/World of Bluegrass conference and street fair and have had a fine experience. Unfortunately, this year the experience was subpar and not up to the previous standards. Here are my major complaints: 1. The bed was terrible. Saggy and lumpy. Really there is no excuse for this at the rates they charge. 2. Minimal house keeping provided. Yes, I know that hotels cut back on their housekeeping during the pandemic however most hotels are back to full servicing at this point. Over the 6 nights that I stayed there, the only servicing that I got was the replacement of the towels. Even the coffee maker had a used filter in it left over from a previous guest. 3. Restaurant. I had dinner one night at the restaurant and ordered a $22 salad. When it arrived, I asked for some rolls and butter to which the waiter said that they had none as they only got rolls delivered on Monday (it was Friday). When I said any type of bread would be fine, he said he would see if he could scrounge up some hamburger buns. He then promptly disappeared into the kitchen only to return and tell me that the cook Saud that he was "too slammed" to get me any bread until things slowed down. Why the waiter didn't just get it himself is beyond me and in any case it was a ridiculous answer. Eventually another waiter, sensing that I was unhappy, came over and asked if he could help. I explained to him the bread situation to which he just shook his head and went off to the kitchen and got me some bread and butter straight away. While I am not one who generally complains, the current level of service at the Residence Inn is definitely not up to standards and I will seriously consider switching to one of the other hotels the next time I attend IBMA.

The rooftop bar was awesome. $5 beers so it was budget friendly. The breakfast was one of the best I've had in a while. The rooms were clean and spacious. House keeping came around everyday to check on us as well.
