Could be superb if they sort their wifi
Reviewed 23 march, 2023
The hotel is largely great. The booking -in experience was friendly and fast, the room itself was large and comfortable (the interior facing window was interesting), and everything was pleasingly clean and tidy. No issues whatsoever. The only bone of contention is the wifi- in the evenings, it's so bad it's just unusable. You can't even load a webpage or send an email. There wasn't an 'upgrade to Premium wifi' option either, it was just bad level. When your hotel largely caters to business folk when a match isn't on, you need to sort out your wifi. I probably won't be staying here again on this basis, as there is a Premier Inn up the road which has great wifi. I don't expect to use my own 4/5G hotspot when there is wifi at a hotel Other than that, no issues with the hotel at all.

Disappointing and wouldn’t return unfortunately.

Sadly wouldn’t return to this hotel or recommend it to others. Having stayed at the one in Oxford which was a lovely stay, this was a stark contrast. Upon arrival, the access road to the hotel was closed due to a Football match. When we contacted them, we were rudely told ‘yes and? It’s always closed when there’s a match, you’ll have to go somewhere and wait, there’s a retail park nearby’!!! As if I should just know that ! We were travelling with a 3 year old and a 9 year old with Autism (who doesn’t cope when unexpected things happen). So having done over an hours journey, I don’t expect to deal with a meltdown and crying toddler because we then have to wait another 45 minutes in the car for nothing or spend unnecessary money at a retail park for the displeasure. I completely understand if road closures have to go ahead, this was not our issue. It was the fact we were not made aware of it at any point and could have avoided the issue altogether had we been advised to avoid certain times on match days! Also, the lack of customer service didn’t help the situation! When we finally got there, there was confusion again as we were told the additional amount we paid for breakfast only covered the 2 adults in the room?! We booked a FAMILY ROOM with breakfast?! IHG have confirmed this was not the case so not sure why that was said, yet another delay and battle before we had even got to our room. The room itself was nice, large with 2 big beds and generally clean however, there was a cigarette burn in the duvet cover. Plenty of towels were provided and my only negative feedback on the room would be the horrible wooden headboards! The children banged their heads multiple times in the night. The main reason we chose the hotel was for the swimming pool for the children but sadly this was a real disappointment. We were told we had to book a slot, which we did. Not sure why as it was empty?! It was very tired looking and dirty. The pool itself wasn’t very warm and the water was quite cloudy/merry looking. Paint was chipped and coming away by the jacuzzi and it just looked really horrible. Changing rooms were any better, the whole area is in desperate need of a cosmetic update. The breakfast was ok, nowhere near as nice as the Oxford hotel we stayed at. All in all, I wouldn’t come again sadly and the whole initial experience on arrival took the shine off of our stay for Mothers Day.

Stayed overnight at this hotel with a coach party following a trip to the Mountbatten Festival .The room was clean ,spacious and pleasantly situated. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was varied, well presented and plentiful. At this hotel coach parties are not treated as second class citizens as often happens elsewhere

Really nice and great value

First class stay, friendly reception staff, immaculately clean room and hotel. Superb selection of breakfast buffet. Very easy to find and free parking on-site. Much nicer then many ‘standard brand’ hotels at similar price point. Lovely big TV in room, and free use of fridge.

Luxury hotel and quality service

I have stayed at this hotel several times and I wanted to call out Adele for the amazing service she had provided. Very welcoming at the front desk also she gave me an upgrade to the room (subject to availability). This is the reason why I stay at Voco Reading, because of the quality service from each team member. The rooms and clean and great bar/restaurant. Situated next to the football stadium and easy travelling distance within Reading (without the centre traffic)
