Not safe
Not a great hotel to stay if you are taking your kids, its Dodgy, weird, men hanging around, my daughter saw someone near the window in the garden, our door was opened in the middle of the night, I just felt it was not safe for the kids the rooms was so uncomfortable, bed was rock solid, pillows was flat, we left in the night and just drove over 120 miles home RATHER BE SAFE THAN SORY, it just dont feel safe..
Shocked
There is only one good thing I can say about this hotel is the reception staff are lovely the two gentlemen and the lady always smiling, also very friendly. However for the rest can't really say anything good, on the morning of breakfast there is not much room to get to the food area as there is a table placed right in front of the buffet food with people sitting there it is difficult to get to, food was very bland and they do Turkey bacon, fried sausages, "rubber tasting" mushrooms, hash brown, beans "very dry", weetabix, cereal and toast. Not much communication with the breakfast staff however one of my sibling was taking there cup of tea to the table and spilt some one the way to the table when they saw they had spilt it they went to get a staff members however they had already seen this and gave my parent a scowling whilst cleaning this up. Then eating breakfast we noticed a staff member smoking in the clean lining room, but I will just say they give you a slip with the WI-FI passwords and at the bottom says any smoking in the room with be a £100 penalty. Rooms we was in a double and single room, there was writing on the walls, holes in the walls, scuff marks on the door and radiator, curtains kept sliding off when opening them, small bathroom (which always smelt of smoke due to people smoking outside are room and the air vent in the bathroom bringing it into are room) the covers made all my family itchy, walls are very thin the first night there was a couple next door they was very quiet however the second night there was males next door and kept my sister and I up till about 2/3 in the morning talking very loudly and shouting, to add to that make sure you check at the door shuts properly on your room we found that we have to try at least 4 time to make sure it was shut properly. The surrounding area of the hotel my family and I didn't feel very safe Location not the best police helicopter overhead for both nights we stayed. We walked down to the local shopping centre, in which in the time we were there possibly a little over an hour I saw a local ic3 gentleman try to guide a disabled man off the street to rob him when he refused he drew his finger down the mans face in a gesture he was going to cut him on seeing that I was watching what he was doing he scurried off, later an ic1 north eastern European gentleman noticed a elderly woman sat on some steps he sat at the side of her trying to gain her trust for what purpose I do not know but again on noticing me he moved on, I was driving back to the hotel on our second evening the road adjacent the hotel i believe it's called the drive completely blocked off by police forensics officers, ic3 body on the floor not a good sight for the youngest siblings of 13,10 and 6 to witness ..... these granted are uncontrollable events to the hotel just more for reference to the area which is very dangerous. No parking my parents had to park in the local nursery grounds though the staff appeared to be using the parking spaces for customers. I wouldn't reccomend this area for young couples and families with young children
Avoid

Breakfast a little bland... no real flavour to it and although it stated it offered a full English breakfast it was turkey bacon, room not the cleanest saucers looked to have been wiped with a dirty rag as instead of changing with clean ones, bedding made everyone itch possibly the detergent though not convinced, we saw the staff smoking in the clean linen cupboard, there was no engagement by the staff at breakfast except in a scowl I received for one of the kids spilling a little coffee on the floor. Dining room is very small with one of the table very close to the buffet meaning not a very good experience for any guest who maybe seated there. Very dangerous area and customer service not the staff forte I'm afraid.
Awful experience
Decent rooms but awful customer service. When i stayed over they took a much larger security deposit of 200 pounds rather than the advertised 50 pounds. They fined me without consent an extra 50 pounds for having guests. They have no policy written to say extra guests not allowed.
Alert: Stay at your own risk!
Generally, I have had a great luck with hotels and Air Bnb, but that luck ended when I decided to stay at Britannia Inn. It was a terrible decision waiting to happen, and if I would have read these reviews I would have avoided choosing this place. But I didn't! The pros: not many, but the location is great for going to various places and to the train station as well. (Surprise ending P.S. note at the end....) Now, when I say that my luck ended this is how it began... When we entered the hotel, the person was talking on the phone and asked us to wait outside in the backyard, and he will come get us in 15 min. I said ok, not a problem. We sat and sat and sat, the person never came back. We walked over to him and get this, I have never heard such a lame excuse, he said, "The room inspector is still inspecting the room". We just cracked up right there. It was like a brain fart. Wow, I am laughing is I write this because that was the single most dumbest thing I have ever heard. He could have been honest and told us that he would not let us in before 1 pm. That is all he had to say, but I guess he wanted to play the lame game. Thank god finally at 12:55 "the room inspector" finished, there wasn't anyone in the room or checking it. Meanwhile we were waiting outside, two of the employees came and started to smoke, guess where, inside where bed sheets and all the things were kept, and the action was repeated later on. Do you see what I am talking about when I say, my luck ending. So after all that fiasco, we are finally let in to a our room. The room was decent, clean at first, until we lifted the bed sheet: it had a blood stain on it. We asked for a new sheets, so the personal, put another sheet on top of that sheet. I didn't figure out the blood stain until later: It was a bed bug blood stain. For my surprise, the bathroom was actually clean. There was a small fan, and the weather was helpful being rainy and cold. It was nice since we opened the window. There is not much to say about this place, we didn't even eat the free breakfast after what we saw in the room. My advice: If you can find a better and bug free place yes, but if you want bed bugs hiding inside your luggage then go ahead. P.S.: The bed bug hiding in our luggage was not out until which reached Paris! Surprise surprise, bug from England...
