Comfortable, clean
I stayed here after spending the evening at the Blue Lagoon. Since I arrived after 10 pm, an envelope with my keys was left for me at the cafe. While the procedure was clearly marked on the envelope, I somehow missed the expectations such as how to mark your bed, check out, etc. by not noticing the instruction. I did not encounter a hostel employee at any point but was able to figure out what to do. The beds were comfortable, the room and bathroom were clean. The kitchen was less clean but this was because of messy people using it. While I felt less connection with the others staying at this hostel than others I've stayed at it was a great place to slip in and out after a good nite's rest. On street parking was easy to find and I would definitely stay here again.
Lovely presentations
We were there for two full days. Breakfasts and dinners were served with great style and delicious foods. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and had a wide variety of options. Dinners were served in lovely presentations and some unusual preparations.
The Cheers od Iceland
THis was a friendly welcoming place. We were there during the World Cup and it was like being in a Steeler Bar only it was team Iceland. The food was great, especially their soup or stew, The portions where more than most people could eat. I think the chef was Irish or Scotish, so you tie into that or real Icelandic food. We had rented a house or we would have stayed there. Their were nine of us (three children). They went our of the way to be nice tothe kids or to meet any request we had. The major difference between Cheers and here was Norm and Sam did not show up. I love locals hangouts and this was as good as they come.
Smelled worse than a men's locker room
The only good thing to say about this hostel was that the beds were comfortable and there's wifi throughout the building. I've stayed in several hostels and this one was by far the worst. The room smelled of a men's dirty gym bag. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting, with used paper towel and clumps of hair all over the floors and the floor drain was clogged up with a nasty smell coming out of it. One showers was out of service and the other didn't have a lock. The private shower had one of the glass doors falling off the rail so the water sprayed all over the floor. The kitchen was gross and the garbage always seemed to be overflowing. Also if you're travelling solo don't expect much of a social atmosphere here. Most people kept to themselves and there is no real reception area. No tours or group activities going on. It is close to the bus depot and about a 25 minute walk into the city center.
Very accommodating and clean hostel for overnight stay
If you are looking for a place to sleep trough night and then continue your journey inside the Iceland - that’s the place for you Clean room, friendly staff and well equipped kitchen - and it’s not that far from the city center! Overall, excellent choice for a group of tourists P.S. You could arrive here from the keflavik airport via flybus, cabin hotel and 10min walk from there
