Good 5 nights
Stayed for 4 nights plus 1 separate night whilst travelling around Brazil last year. The hotel staff were great, English was well spoken and service was superb. The breakfast offering was exceptional, a great variety of cooked food, continental, fruits and pastry’s available. Rooms were comfortable and the views over Copacabana were great should you pay for a sea view. The only things I would comment on, the hotel caters for western tourists looking for western styled activities and restaurants. We were recommended the Fogo de Chao restaurant by the concierge and upon returning to the U.K. realised this was a chain with a branch in Brighton. Would have been nicer to have a more authentic Rio food experience. In addition, they do not recommend Favella tours so we had to source one online. Finally, we booked a transfer from the hotel to Abraao on Ilha Grande. The price was fair, a little more than what we paid to get back, but the mini bus ride from Rio was extremely uncomfortable. The seats were worn and the bus was full. Instead, I would recommend getting a coach from the station in Centro and then trying to get a boat from Agra dos Reis (speak to your accommodation in Ilha Grande for help with this). Even with a taxi from the bus station, this worked out a few pounds cheaper (only £5 per person) but the coach was significantly more comfortable. Would definitely stay again but maybe only for 1 night after landing in Rio.
Great Welcome and Location
Stayed here for 3 nights before heading off to Iguazu Falls. We arrived late evening but had a warm welcome as soon as we pulled up with staff taking out suitcases straight from the taxi. The welcome continued at the front desk where we were helped to complete the forms and checked in quickly and efficiently. The bags were then taken to our rooms. We were fortunate to have a high room with a view over Copacabana towards the fort. The room was clean and everything worked well. The bed was comfortable. As some others have noted the towels were a little thin but they were changed every day. Breakfast was served downstairs in the first floor restaurant - great selection and plenty of it. As with most hotels who use a machine for coffee it was warm and wet is the best that can be said but there was ice cold water and juices. We ate in the hotel both evenings we were there. The food was great. On the first evening we booked in the top floor restaurant and the menu we were given wasn't to our taste but we were allowed to order off the bar menu and that was great. The second night we ate in the bar on the ground floor off the same menu. The staff in both places were great. The concierge was very helpful We needed to check pick up times on the first day for a prebooked tour and he called the tour company for us to ensure we were given the right information Also very helpful with sending postcards. The doorman was also very helpful getting us a taxi and checking the fare for us before we got in. The only problem we had was with the air conditioning - it started leaking water when in use but reception were great and a service engineer was sent up very quickly and sorted it out. A great start to our tour of South America.
Great Location
We stayed here for five nights. When checking in we had to wait for about 20mins as it was busy. They could possible open more counters for busy periods. The staff at reception where very friendly so where the door and lobby staff. We got given a room on the 27th floor. And was amazed by the view from the balcony. We could see the city, beach and sugar loaf. The rooms could do with some modernisation as there very dated. The breakfast is not really suitable for vegetarians as there was hardly any hot options for veggies. Just fruit, cakes and rolls etc. They offer a good service where you can take beach chairs and towels from level 0 to use on the beach. Which is like 2mins walk across the road. Even on the beach they have a section for hotel guests and offer umbrellas to, all part of the service. The location is very good as your centre of the strip with loads of restaurants nearby.
A good place to stay while in Rio
The hotel provided all we were looking for and is excellently located. A special mention to the front desk employee Mr Daniel Dimottros, who was always kind and attentive to our doubts and needs. We would definitely go back in the future!
Excellent first class customer service
I go to Rio de Janeiro a lot and always stay at othon palace mainly because of the spectacular views both from the pool rooftop but also from the room. The comfort is also great both in the rooms and in all areas of the hotel. I never usually write a review however I felt it was necessary as on my recent trip I experience first class customer service in particular from one of the receptionist/ concierge Wanderson. He looked after me a great deal during my stay always made sure I was perfectly accommodated and dealt with some minor issues I had very impressively always finding a fantastic resolution. He was very helpful also with reccomendations for activities and places to eat and drink. Best I have come across. Also one of the staff members in the resteraunt/ events department a Luiza was also extremely polite and welcoming and really puts a smile on your face. These little things can make a big difference in your holiday experience. Especially when you are unfortunate enough to experience a lot of rain. Do stay at this hotel.. great quality with great staff!
