We are here tonight for one night. Very clean well appointed rooms. We requested quiet and we got it. Because I read some reviews that were negative I checked to make sure it was clean and it is very clean. I can’t comment on the breakfast because it’s the evening now. I was assured by the front desk that it is a full breakfast just now you are served the eggs and other hot foods which is just fine with me. The hotel is in a convenient area.
Great hotel and pet friendly too!

We stayed one night during our trip from Florida to Maine. After a long drive we were delighted to find a very comfortable and super clean room. The staff was very friendly as well. We would recommend this hotel highly. Many thanks to the management for welcoming travels with their pets!

This hotel has seriously been let go and run down. Our 1st room smelled like cigarette smoke, they moved us to a 2nd room in which the closet door was broken and there was mold on the bathroom wall. Mold is very dangerous for anyone to breath in. We were planning on also staying here upon our return trip and switched over to the courtyard right next door. Hoping on our return through Roanoke our stay would be more enjoyable. We had stayed at this hotel back in 2007 and the hotel was much nicer and very well run and not run down. The cabinetry was chipped and peeling in places and the hotel just needs an update and thorough cleaning.
A decent place to stop over

I chose the Residence Inn over the Courtyard next door because of the negative reviews on Marriott's own site (not TripAdvisor). You may not see many recent reviews of the Residence Inn here because the place is pretty forgettable. The good: The location is convenient. The rooms are spacious and in good shape. They are clean, and the housekeeping staff works very hard to keep them that way. The lobby has fresh hot Starbucks coffee 24/7. Most of the staff are pleasant. They do their jobs, and that's about all you can expect. The not-so-good: The rooms can be noisy. Many face the pool. It closes at 10 PM, but people love to hang out in the patio area right next to it, blasting music and yelling. You can also hear every footstep in the rooms above you. That's how many hotels in this category are these days, and you can't fault the staff for that. The breakfast area is a disappointment to those who like hotel breakfasts. I don't. Using COVID as an excuse, they have replaced the breakfast buffet. A server sits in the back kitchen. You must call her to get her to come over to the plexiglass barricade. Other Residence Inns, Homewood Suites, and similar hotels have a more common-sense approach that includes pre-wrapped cold items and/or multiple servers. None of this was a big deal to me. But if you stay at Residence Inns for the "free" breakfast, you'll find the experience underwhelming. Bottom line: If you stay at a crowded time of year, you'll probably find The Residence Inn noisy. Depending on the location of your room, it may be possible to find quiet. The staff generally are nice and the place is adequate for a quick road stop.
Great room, incredible value

For a late 2000s-built Residence Inn this place is in excellent shape. Room was clean and well-maintained, and a pretty standard RI room. The kitchen's cooktop is basically useless but that's really to be expected in a Marriott extended stay. The few amenities that were available (thanks a lot CoviD-19) were stellar. The staff was great about following the usual CoviD-19 safety protocols, such as mask-wearing and social distancing. For $87 a night this was an incredible deal. Convenient access to downtown Roanoke and just a couple of miles from I-81 (the property is off of I-581), and as the name implies it's very close to the airport. The Valley View Mall and lots of retail are nearby. I will say though, I am a bit confused (and frankly bothered) by the hotel's policy of not renting rooms to local residents. This is billed as a CoviD-19 mitigation precaution, but I'm not buying it, as it could be argued a local resident staying in the hotel poses less of a risk than someone traveling from afar. They're just losing customers for no discernable reason. I thought it was just an unenforced guideline until I happened to notice front desk staff turning away a prospective customer over this. Bad business strategy if you ask me. Given that it's about the only extended stay property in the Roanoke area, I bet more than a few people have been stuck traveling an hour or more for their lodging needs.
