Great stay - pros and cons

This is a super nice hotel with great staff. The rooms are very nice, clean, comfortable with nice touches. Cable, wifi, pool, little gym room. They allow pets. The downside is that it can be a little pricey for hotel level and their non-refundable pet deposit is excessively expensive. Parking can be tight during busy times. Their coffee is watered down to the point of being silly. Their breakfast is hit and miss. If you don't have pets and you're eating breakfast elsewhere, it's a great place to stay with plenty of amenities. Coffee addicts: find your fix elsewhere. We'd stay again nevertheless, probably sometime during the off season when we're traveling without our pup.

I have stayed at Holiday Inn express before but different cities and this is very clean and rooms are spacious. Not sure if this one is newer than the others but we enjoyed our stay . It was only for two nights . Staff is friendly and looked happy. I want to thank the manager for being very professional in assisting with one night of no charge . since I initially booked for 3 nights but decided to leave early thought booking.com
Continental breakfast needs a lot of work though ,
My family was expecting waffles . Eggs bacon etc . And plenty of fruit . Well there’s none of that here.
Only yogurt, and bagels that were ok.
Omelet and bacon that they have is not good . Maybe because of pandemic bounce back ?? I don’t know , but McDonald’s is close by if you need to eat better .

Hotel was very clean. Optional daily maid service due to covid. Bring paid receipts if you book through third party. They tried to charge me again upon arrival and at check out. Not fans of third party booking a think.

Overall a nice place. Staff was accommodating and pleasant, pretty clean also and great location. My only issues were 1) they didn't enforce their mask policy and people were talking to front desk with no mask on. 2) The security lock at the rear entrance didn't lock, so a lack of security there. 3) A small nest of black hairs by the bathtub that housekeeping missed.
This was a friendly experience after a bad experience at the Hampton down the road.

I brought my wife to the coast for her birthday, and we had booked a room at the Hampton Inn down the road. After a bad experience our first night (you can read my review of that hotel for the detail), we came to the Holiday Inn Express (which was $20 cheaper than the Hampton) to see if they had a room available. I was met by a nice friendly lady who told me they had a room, to which I responded, "Alright, Alright, Alright!" doing my best, Matthew McConaughey impression, after which I asked the lady, "Do you know who says that?" To which she replied, "Matthew McConaughey." And then I said, "Yep, that's me." The lady responded, "You are not," with a smile on her face. Now, I had just come in from being on a boat out at sea for hours and had a full solar mask on, so I said with a chuckle, "How can you tell? I have a mask on." which was kind of a sideways comment on the whole COVID mask thing because everyone is wearing mask these days. We both had a good laugh, and from that moment forward, this nice lady ran with the joke and referred to me as Mr. McConaughey for the rest of my stay; which left everyone else in the hotel confused and gave us both a good laugh.
Now, if you have read some of my reviews before, you know I am a friendly guy and always willing to cheer people up with a little lighthearted humor and chitchat. But part of the reason I am doing this is to engage these employees as humans, instead of just workers. Well, trained staff will do as this lady did and play off of it to make the customer's stay more enjoyable. It is a sign that they care about you as a customer, and they want you to feel relaxed. This type of attitude was completely lacking at the Hampton Inn, where I felt like I was being served by a team of robots.
As far as the hotel goes, it was very nice, and the bed was comfortable, and believe me when I say that, I seldom say that about any hotel bed. The hotel was well kept and maintained, and everything looked top-notch. If I need to stay in Rockport again, this will be the hotel I choose.
