Great weekend getaway
Reviewed 29 november, 2021
I booked this hotel when I surprised my husband with a mini vacation to go to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals the weekend before Thanksgiving and it was a great stay. The staff was so friendly and accommodating, room was clean and comfortable. Within waking distance to so many things. We will definitely be booking again!
So Good It’s Not Funny

Ok this is my 77th night in a hotel in the last 12 months. Safe to say, that travel is no fun anymore. I came to Chicago for a client event and only booked the ALoft because the client was staying here. Wouldn’t have been my first choice. Firstly, the hotel is a little quirky. Like a trendy dorm room - more hip than anything. But it grows on you. The thing that sets this hotel apart from EVERY hotel I have stayed in this year is the off the chart, most amazingly service oriented staff I have seen. Front desk staff Jennifer and Liz - truly first class operators, warm, friendly, generous. I heard multiple people during my 2 day stay comment on how good they were. And then there is George, the enigmatic barman. I arrived late on a Thursday and sat down at the bar. Supposedly last drinks are at 11pm but this is just a guide to George. He is far more concerned at making sure everyone is happy than worrying about the time clock. He had a stash of snacks and food out the back that he was trying to give away - and reminded my of my Grandmother, always trying to please people with food. The Aloft OHare may not be a 5 star hotel. It feels quirky - the rooms are certainly functional, water pressure is good, beds are comfortable, WiFi cranks along and the open “market” concept works well. But this is truly an example on how great people make for a great experience and in my mind, Marriott should wrap these 3 staff in cotton wool and make a training video on how great hotels should be run. I’ll go home today and someone is going to ask me “how was Chicago?” and I am going to tell them about this rare gem of a place… Bravo Aloft. Bravo!
Unprofessional, poorly trained desk clerk

When we checked in the desk clerk asked if we had a car. We said yes and she said she would add $23 to our bill. Kinda surprised, but ok. She then said we should unload and then park car. Ok. Unloaded stuff. My wife went up to the room. I went off to park. In the course of the next 20 minutes I circled the building twice and found no parking. I called the front desk and ahe said she should’ve given me directions(giggle) and she said it was in the parking lot. Having circled the building 2x, I knew there was no lot. She then said the public parking garage across the street. The entrance appeared to be the wrong way up a one way street, so I circled the building again. It was not there. Asked a cop doing security for a bar across the street and he gave me succinct easy to follow directions. Found the garage. Went to the labeled aloft parking. Thank you, officer. Found my way, in the rain because the skywalk was closed after 11pm, to the hotel lobby. I asked the clerk if I was parking, why didn’t she give me directions to the garage when I checked in She said she didn’t know I had a car. I said, you mean when you asked if I had a car and said you were going to charge me for parking and told me to unload my car before parking? She then gave a half hearted apology. Got up to the room. Toilet noisily ran for 10 minutes after a flush. Would’ve said something, but I couldn’t imagine the hotel would be responsive. Bottom line? Don’t stay here. 100 hotels near O’Hare. Don’t stay here. Been a loyal customer of Marriott for my whole adult life. I will never stay at an Aloft property again.

The room was nice. Very convenient location. Lots of things to do in the area. Most stores and shopping and even entertainment within walking distance. There is no microwave in the rooms but there is one in the lobby. The staff was really nice and helpful. Parking is complementary.
Hope you like Fireworks

I can't speak for anyone else, but there are two main reasons why I book an airport hotel; 1. Quick and easy access to the airport via a shuttle. 2. A good night's rest before staring work again tomorrow. This property delivered neither. I'd be willing to let the poor shuttle service go under normal circumstances. But since I've just been blasted out of bed by the fireworks nextdoor, and I literally mean nextdoor, I'm not in a particularly gracious mood. I would never have guessed that a non-holiday Sunday night in September would be a likely time to have to plan around a fireworks show. At least one might expect the hotel to make people aware before the book a reservation. Boy was I wrong. Lesson learned; let the buyer beware. But let the seller beware as well. I'll never spend another dime at this property.
