More about the hotel
Nice hotel, great location
The hotel is directly across from the train station and a few feet from the bus station. We stayed in a standard double (room 38), located on the back side of the hotel. It has a city/street view, but is relatively quiet. The exception being an odd bar/pub nearby which is open 2300-0400...very quiet till about 0145 when patrons of other bars come calling. The, good news is that the room's close d windows block out the noise. The room was clean, modern; bed firm but nice; bathroom/shower modern. There is a safe in room, but A/C was not working although wall switch present. A room fan was provided. Breakfast was 8 Euro per person, coffee, tea, juice, bread, croissant, yogurt and fruit. There are nice coffee shops and bakeries nearby if one cares to venture out for breakfast. A few minor touches could raise this to a five star, but a solid place to stay and very convenient.
Small Hotel in a Great Location
This little hotel is directly across the street from the train and bus station. We chose it as we had an early train in the morning and it was perfect. Although it is on a busy street there was no problem with noise when the windows and shutters were closed (they did provide earplugs as well). The hotel is clean and looks to be recently remodeled with a nautical theme. It is just a few minutes from the beach and the fishing harbor. The market and the pedestrian shopping are even closer. The bed was very comfortable. The shower had good pressure and a door! I would definitely recommend Hotel de Paris.
Excellent!
I've had a very pleasant stay at this property. The hotel is very conveniently located close to restaurants, shops and the train station. It is very clean and well taken care of, and the personnel--everybody from front desk to the cleaning lady--have been very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very quiet (mine was facing the main street and had absolutely no issue with noise) and are equipped with a fan, which turned out to be almost as effective as an A/C unit to keep the room cool. The shutters: rarely have hotel rooms such good shutters, they kept the room dark and helped keep it cool too. I would definitely come back for another stay at this hotel!
Great hotel
We really enjoyed our one night here, great location, lovely décor in the rooms and throughout the hotel. The air con was broken but they provided a very good fan and we were fine, the shutters are fantastic - no waking up early here! All new fittings, modern bathroom, hairdryer too. Great location and we were able to leave our motorcycle out on the pavement. Very helpful lady on reception, she recommended us a great restaurant, La Boina, not many restaurants are open on a Monday. Breakfast was simple but excellent quality, very fresh bread, croissants & juice. Only small negative was that it was very hot in the breakfast room, could do with some air con.
Small, well-run hotel in good location
Hotel de Paris is a charming, lovingly restored place, the sort of small, well-run hotel we prefer and seek out. It is wonderfully situated directly across the street from the train station and major bus terminal. Slowly wandering to the beach takes less than ten minutes through the old city's pedestrian ways - quite charming. The luscious market is one block away where we slurped delicious oysters. Our room (36) was small but attractively and comfortably furnished. Because it overlooked the street behind, the room was very quiet even during the day. In fact, the town itself is lovely, far more pleasant that the over-touted San Sebastian but with similar views across the bay. It doesn't have San Sebastian's museums, but Saint-Jean-de-Luz has its own share of history to discover. It is a great place for a restful stay with some lovely walks along the shore promenade and a nice swimming beach. We didn't feel as though we were still in Basque Country, but it didn't matter. By all means, eat at Chez Kako, 18 Rue Harispe, Pl. des Halles, if you want to eat incredible fish. We were not surprised by the quality of the hotel or the food - very high both - but we were surprised by just how much we enjoyed our stay in the town itself.
