Worst place ever, NOT SAFE

I am going to start off by saying, I tried to fix my problems with the motel staff, no one was available. I called the office after I got home, spoke with "Bob" (I'm sure not his real name as he had to think about it when I asked his name). I had the worst stay in a motel, ever. Upon check in, there were only 2 of the 4 lights with light bulbs in them. When I tried to call the front desk, no one answered. The bathroom was filthy with ants all over the counter and walls, someone else's blood and toothpaste splatter on the walls. The mattress was like sleeping on a cement slab. In the morning I had to leave while still dark out, there was NO LIGHTS ON outside (I see a theme here-no lightbulbs in the room). I was trying to carry my cooler down the dark flight of stairs and missed the last two stairs and fell down. Bruised my arm and need, injured my left shoulder when I landed. I managed to go back upstairs and retrieve the rest of my belongings including my cell phone so I could use a flashlight on the next trip. After I got my belongings in my vehicle, I went to the office to report my fall and issues with my room (remember, no one would answer the phone the night before?), well no one would answer the knock on the door the next morning at 6:30 am. The sign hung outside the office said to not ring the bell, but to knock outside office hours. Another guest needed assistance and saw no one was answering my MULTIPLE LOUD KNOCKS, so she rang the bell. Still no one came. I got her name and phone number after I told her I fell down the stairs. She had a similar experience. I was promised a call back from the manager when I spoke to "Bob". I'm still waiting for that call that was supposed to come on Thursday, November 18th. It's now November 22nd. I will be contacting my attorney for a potential law suit. All I wanted was my room comped. Now it will cost them more as they will be paying attorney fees and for my pain after falling down the dark stairs. I HAVE PICTURES.

I don't want to devote a whole lot of time and writing skills to describing this disappointing stay. I purchased a one-night stay for two on Hotwire and landed the Knights Inn. I checked in and was the only customer in the lobby. I silently watched the clerk (proprietor?) muddle through check-in, taking his time, sending me outside in the rain, so that I can provide an exact license plate # (most hotels tell me not to bother when I don't know it by heart). Hotwire guaranteed me a room for two, but did not guarantee a bed-type. When I saw that the room we were provided had two individual beds, I returned to the clerk (proprietor?) and asked for a bed big enough for two. He lied and said he had none. I asked only once, I was not loud or insistent. At that point, I only bet he was lying, out of laziness in redoing the paperwork. In time, this man volunteered that he lied. The room was spacious, we put the beds together and had a marvelous time. The bathroom was ice cold and not heatable. Warming up one's feet after going to the bathroom stole 30 minutes per bathroom trip. We were going to shower, but were too cold to do so. The following morning, when it was time to check out, I returned to the front office to get my $50 cash deposit back. Now, this should not make a difference, but I look like everyone's next door neighbor/soccer mom--boring and not indigent. Before he would return my cash, this man first demanded that: (a) I hand over the receipt he had given me at check-in--in other words, he wanted in his hands the only proof I had that he owed me $$. (b) He walked with me to the room to "check." Now, ladies. If I had been alone, I would have called the police. Never in my life did a strange man claim that a walk through my hotel room is required before he'd let me check out. Lucky for me, I wasn't alone, which is the only reason I permitted the search. We walked to the room (I am already without my receipt) and I called to my friend who was inside to open the door and that I am not alone. The brief search yielded nothing more exciting than crumbs we left on the table. The man pulled a wad of cash from his pocket, returned my deposit, and shouted that he had rooms with double beds that he chose to not give me. What do you think? Sexually repressed and frustrated man jealous I had me some company? Disgusting piece of human garbage!
Security lacking at this Inn-don't stay there!

After going to bed around 9pm I was awoke by someone who had a key to the room attempting to enter around midnight. I said you have the wrong room. He said, “my bad” and left. I had used the upper latch as well as the deadbolt, otherwise he would have had complete access. I called management and they made another key(like locking the barn door after the horse got out). They said I didn't have the door locked was their defense(bogus). Someone had a key to my room and probably EVERY room at the INN? I requested a refund from Bookings and they offered $25. I contacted Red Lion. Here's their response:"We were distressed to read your complaint. Please note that Knights Inn Salem Motel, Oregon is independently owned and operated, and is associated with us through a franchise agreement only, which significantly limits our ability to impact the hotel operations or refund policies. Nevertheless, we have reached out to the management of the hotel concerning the underlying matter and your request for a refund, and hope to be able to foster a quick response that will be satisfactory to you." So far no response from Knights Inn.
A great budget traveler’s roadside inn

I liked this place, which still carries the basic character of the Travelodge it used to be. But then retro speaks to me in ways that the more modern motels and hotels seem to miss, character. Still ‘this toilet has been sanitized for your protection” ribbons across the lid just makes the clean coddles of your heart rejoice. There are palm trees edging the two story classic c-shape around the “courtyard” parking lot. Rooms open onto balconies and each room is its own independent entity with own heater/cooler. Flat screen has replaced box tv, and bathrooms now boast marble or simulated marble but who cares. It is nice, clean, comfortable and the sheets smell nice and all clean. Perfect for the weary traveler!

My husband and I were travelling through Salem for one night and didn’t want to spend a lot for a hotel room so we picked the Knights Inn. It’s a very old property near downtown Salem. I wanted to give it a one star but to be fair the staff were pleasant and my husband said he enjoyed the shower. ...But I wouldn’t exactly recommend this hotel to anyone.
