Not a Holiday at all!

Don’t recommend Holiday Inn for a vacay at all. Went to bed thinking all was well, only woke up to find BUG BITES all over Hubby’s lower legs. Inspected bed to learn that the only protection between us and the mattress was the sheer thin sheets we slept on. No mattress protector, no mattress cover, pad or anything…so bugs could have a ready-made feast! Yep, bed bugs. See photos.

I travel quite a bit, and stay at HIE quite often. This was by far the worst ever. The rooms were fine, the front desk clerk was fine, but every time I stepped out the front door, I felt like I was in a movie scene about pimps! There were several guys playing music, dancing, smoking and just hanging out ALL THE TIME. Night and day, it looked like they were pimps waiting for their girls to show up. It became so unconfutable, I started using the side entrance and taking the stairs. The management really needs to have better control of who just hangs out at the front entrance. Oh, and on the second night I was awoke at 2 or 3 in the morning with a huge fight going on on the fourth floor for about 30 minutes.

My husband and I spent 1 night here - never to return. Upon checking in, the woman at the front desk did not even mention that my husband was a platinum member or ask if we wanted additional points or a snack upon check-in. Most Holiday Inns actually thank my husband for being a platinum member, she did not even acknowledge. She asked if we had reservations, yes, I did make advance reservations. She said she was putting us in a ground floor room, is this ok? I said I wanted a quiet room. She said all the rooms were quiet. She put us in the last room at the end of the hallway, next to the interstate. It was NOT a quiet room. This was the very noisiest hotel we have ever stayed at. It is next to the interstate and I swear the hotel has single pane windows and cardboard walls. It felt like we were at the Daytona 500, all night. We could see the lights from the parking lot coming through the curtains because they did not completely close. At 2 AM, someone was whistling outside, calling a dog, or something. At 5 AM, it sounded like a multi-vehicle accident on the interstate. My husband sat straight up in bed. Doors started banging at 6:30. We were up at 6:30, packed and left.

I stayed for 6 nights over the Thanksgiving week. I had purchased my room through priceline and had paid for it in advance of checking-in. When I arrived around 8pm on the 20th to check-in, I was asked for a credit card to hold in case of incidentals. I handed over the card attached to my bank account. The charge for incidentals (totally refundable) was $30 a night for a grand total of $180. That is the highest I have ever had anywhere. That first night I was in bed sound asleep when I heard my door handle jingle. I ignored it at first thinking I must be dreaming. Then someone was opening the door and trying to come in. Thankfully they were stopped by the security bar on the door. I typically do not use the security bar but I am glad I did this time. I have been traveling alone for decades and I have never had someone come into my hotel room before. I have never known anyone to have someone walk into their hotel room. Once I realized what was going on I jumped up and ran to the door. A woman was trying to come in because she had just checked in and the desk clerk checked her into my room. When I called down to the desk the young man told me that the girl from the night before had not checked me in properly so he thought the room was empty and provided the keys to the woman who entered my room. I was informed I would have to come down and recheck in. When I went down to the desk he took my photo id (something the girl the night before had not done) and assured me everything was taken care of. I asked him if I would need new keys to ensure that no one else could enter the room. He said no that my keys would work and everything was taken care of. I left for a few hours and came back with my arms loaded with things only to get upstairs and find out that my keys did not work anymore. This is a small thing but frustrating since I had specifically asked if they needed replaced. This required me to go get new keys and it took several minutes for someone to come to the front desk. When someone did, she was not very friendly. The next day I was checking my bank statement and found that the hotel had not only charged the $180 for incidentals to my bank card, but also an additional $545 to pay for the room that I had already paid for. At this point it overdrew my account right before a holiday, thankfully I have savings. I called the desk and the girl who answered was polite and friendly but could do nothing to help me. I asked to speak to the manager and was told the manager was out and would not return until Friday but that she would have her call me first thing Friday. On Friday I had still not heard from the manager by 10 am so I called down to the front desk to try to speak to her only to be informed she would not be in that day after all because she had worked the last couple of days. I was obviously frustrated because I had been told otherwise. The young lady on the phone at the desk was amazing. She listened to all that had happened, set about making things right. She agreed to credit me some points to my reward account, credit for me one night stay as well as the $25 for the overdraft fee. She also told me that she was removing my card from the file so it could not be charged again. Within an hour of that conversation she had credited me 1000 points to my reward account and the extra charges on my account were gone. Saturday morning I checked my bank records before checking out to make sure everything was set. I was shocked to find yet another charge for $340.85 for this room. Also, the promised credit for a nights stay and the overdraft fee were not there. So I called down to the desk and talked to a different woman. I explained what had transpired on the call the day before and suggested that perhaps the wonderful lady from the day before had gotten distracted and had not finished what we had talked about since it was not only not reflected in my bank account but there were now new charges. The woman on the phone was very nasty and told me that the girl had not gotten distracted that she did as she promised and that if i wanted to talk about it i had to go down stairs. We were checking out so I went down to discuss this issue with the desk clerk. Upon arrival at the desk the woman asked how my stay was and I said it was not very good and started to explain that I was the woman she had just spoken to. She rolled her eyes at me and then printed out a sheet proving that the credit had been made to my account. This was enough to satisfiy me so that I could have proof if it did not show up by Monday. She proceeded to tell me that I just did not understand how my bank worked and that the new charges were just not cleared from before by my bank. I tried to explain to her that the charges had been cleared on Friday from my bank as was promised and that this charge was new. She then proceeded to say well it is Priceline's fault cause they don't get taxes right. This had nothing to do with priceline because I had used my credit card to pay for the room through priceline and the charges were only on the card I had given for incidentals. I also stated that I hoped someone would inform the general manager about the incident of someone coming into my room the first night so that it could be addressed to ensure safety going forward. I expressed how dangerous that could have been for me or the person entering the room. I shared that I had a hard time sleeping after that first night because I was afraid someone else would come into my room. At this point she informed me that she was the general manager and accidents happen but she would look into it. She again tried to blame that issue on Priceline stating that it was because I used priceline that I was not checked in properly. This manager is a problem. She was rude, condescending, dismissive and attempted to shift blame instead of problem solve. It turns out she was also the woman who made me new keys the day after I arrived and she did not say one word about the fact that someone had walked into my room in the wee hours of the morning and scared the daylights outta me. As I explained to her, had I not had that security bar up the person could have come in and done me harm or i could have done them harm. NC is an open carry state, I could have shot first and asked questions later thinking there was an intruder. There are so many ways this situation could have turned deadly and she brushed it all off like it was a small thing that happens regularly. I love the Holiday Inn but unless that manager is replaced, I will never stay there again and I will never recommend it to others. I understand mistakes happen and I am very forgiving for them but that was a lot of mistakes in a short period of time and the manager did not see an issue with any of it.

I have read other reviews and based on location and price I took my chance. I must say I was happy with making the decision in staying here! Pros: Clean Lobby, Breakfast area, Hallways, Elevator, Beautiful Patio( smoking Area) to have lunch, relax or enjoy the fresh air and Beautiful room Cons: Foyer of bedroom lite did not work, Bathroom corner ceiling had spots looked like hair dye but it washed off when I used a napkin. Continental Breakfast: I realize its Covid and times are different however it would have been nice to have posted that there would be a limited menu. My husband seen a pancake machine and was not only disappointed but the staff member that was giving out breakfast was rather rude to him. Pool and Gym are closed due to Covid
