Perfect hotel for short layovers in SFO!!!

Have tried several hotels during my recent layovers in SFO, and 1550 has absolutely been the best choice. Reasonable fee, 6 min. distance from airport, welcoming and helpful reception, super-clean bedding & bathroom, 24hr coffee & tea, reliable wake-up call and taxi service ($26 to airport). Really all I was looking for after one long flight and before a next lengthy one.

Decent hotel

Good location, comfy bed, cleanliness is much better compared to other properties...breakfast could be improved though, overall, i had a good stay. Thank you. (Min 200 characters for a review is ridiculous)


Bad customer service - not hospitable

I had made a reservation so my 11-year-old daughter and I (a 40-ish year old woman) would have a place to stay after a long day of flying. I contacted the hotel early that morning to find out if it would be a problem that our flight would ideally land at 11:30 PM, which would mean we might get to the hotel past midnight. The person I spoke with said that would be no problem, and that the door would be locked, and I should call the same number when we arrive to get let in to check in. I asked if I should call if the flight got delayed, and he said that was not necessary. So our flight was delayed a lot and our taxi dropped us at the hotel at almost 3:00 AM. I call the number, and the man who answered (who is the manager, I think, and sleeps somewhere on-site) said they gave my room away to someone else and there were no clean rooms. I told him that I had called earlier in the day and was told I would be able to check in, and that I had a pre-paid reservation. He told me there were no rooms, and I told him I was going to work to get a refund from the booking site and that this situation does not make sense. Meanwhile my daughter and I are out on the street with our luggage and no transportation. I call a few nearby hotels, all of which are booked. Then I decide our best option is to call for a Lyft and go back to the airport. While we wait, I call the booking company. They tell me they will call the hotel and see what they can do. They call me back and say that the man agreed to let us check in and that someone would let us into the hotel. We walk back to the hotel, some guy lets us into the lobby, and I call the number again. The man I spoke with earlier picks up the phone and immediately hangs up without saying anything! The guy who let us in tells me to call again; when the man answers, I say that I am the person he had spoken with earlier and that I was told he would check me in now. He tells me that the booking agent was "bluffing" and that there are no rooms available. I tell him again I called earlier, prepaid, have no transportation till the next day when family members will be picking us up, and that I have my 11-year-old daughter with me. He agrees to come down. Miraculously he FINALLY decides to look up my record and see that I prepaid and that I had called earlier about needing to check in late. He gives me a key to the room. When my daughter and I get to the room and open the door, the room is clearly clean and ready! Bottom line - this hotel DOES NOT have a 24 hour front desk. If there is any chance that you will arrive after midnight, do not book here. Also - if you read through other reviews, it is clear there is no one truly on duty and awake starting at midnight, and there have been noise and safety issues within the hotel from time to time. This plus the issue of my daughter and I being out on the street in the middle of the night signal that this is not a well-run or customer-focused establishment. This is not at all a 3.5 star hotel. Beware.

We had a early flight out of SFO and needed a nearby hotel. The room was mostly clean but definitely needed some additional work. They charge $25 if you want to check in before 3:00!! They offer a taxi service to the airport for $22 per ride. If you choose this option, call the service the day before to confirm. Our taxi did not show up at 4:00 am as requested. (No Ubers were available - we should have booked one ahead of time.) We called the service and they came within 20 minutes and we made our flight, but it was stressful. Also, the taxi was not clean. All in all, it was acceptable but in no way exceptional.


Hotel was good - with one problem

We needed an inexpensive hotel in San Francisco that was close to the airport, and Hotel 1550 filled the bill. Overall, the hotel was good, and our room was comfortable. The neighbourhood seems to be nice, and we drove by some really interesting restaurants. We went out to check out some of these restaurants once we were set up in our room but, unfortunately with COVID restrictions, they were only open for takeout. We ended up getting pizza across the street at Zorba’s, and wow, that was good! We do have one complaint about our stay, and that was that they weren’t offering the complimentary shuttle to the airport. It is on their site that they offer this service to and from the airport. My wife asked about it at the desk when we checked in and they said they stopped offering it due to COVID, yet it’s still on their site that they offer it. BUT they were able to call a shuttle service that could take us to the airport… during the pandemic… for a fee. That experience just left a sour taste. The driver was friendly and we got to the airport quickly, in any case.
