I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Solamar. The room was clean and very cutely designed. The pool and outdoor area were very nice and relaxing. My only comment would be that I wish there was a fridge in the room.
Not The worst but definitely not the best!!

The rate we found was good but by the time you add the resort fee $35 per day with tax and fees plus $55 parking fee per night it’s super Uber overpriced considering it’s not even Kimpton any longer. So no wine tasting and untrained front desk help. We realized that the parking was so expensive the second day so I asked the front desk lady Christina where else we could park and she had no answer. Another guest who overheard me told me literally two minutes away at 6th and k that parking was less than $20 per night. Also anything I asked the front desk like “where’s a good restaurant” or directions were met with a blank stare and no suggestions. Super not helpful!! Also free coffee is done by 10. Too bad if you want to sleep in! Also no free water and a restaurant that is sporadically open. The only good thing was the rooms and upkeep is ok. And the location is great!! The other Kimpton in San Diego is in a seedy area and really run down. My recommendation is to stay as close to petco park and 5th street as possible. Also check parking and resort fees.
A return visit but with a couple minor issues.

We generally get the Spa room here, as there is nothing more relaxing than a jetted tub after a busy day. This visit was expected to be just a good. The shower water volume spit out a sprinkle of water that made it very difficult to rinse out hair and the shower drain made it critical that we took a very short shower or it would overflow onto the bathroom floor. Very annoying. The sink also wouldn’t drain. Not sure if it is a main system issue or specific to our room alone.

My name is Kaly. I am a cute little Siberian Husky. My Dad is making me leave this review, but I am happy to do so cuz I had such a great time here! My room was great. Larger than most hotels which was helpful when I wanted to run around and play! The bed was big for me to spread out and even give my Dad a couple inches of room on the very side. The staff was great, professional and very dog friendly. The entertainment and event folks at the Upper East and JSix restaurant and bar were so nice. They pet and played with me every time we went in. Last Thursday night they had a Yappy hour for me and other dog friends. It was really fun and I got a lot of attention. And the location is a perfect place in Gaslamp Quarters. All the dog-friendly restaurants and bars you could imagine. It was like doggy heaven. And I know my Dad had a great time too. Overall, a very great stay!
Friendly and accomdating

Had a great time here. Great location and awesome staff. It was overcast one day so the pool was closed but they actually opened it for us so we could take a dip. Free hot chocolate during the holidays. They gave some great breakfast recommendations.
