If you love San Diego, stay here!

This hotel rocks! Great downtown location with a tropical oasis on the bay. I love that the bar is poolside. Great place to grab a brew and a taco. When I checked in, I met Beau at the front desk who could not have been more of a delight. He asked why I was visiting and I told him that I was taking a belated birthday vacation. He saw that I was an elite Marriott member and said he was going to try his best to make my stay special. After asking me what kind of room I was looking for, Beau got on the phone with his housekeeping team to try to open up a room with a great city view. While he was making up my keys I commented on how much I liked his office. (The lobby has views of the city on one side and palm trees around the pool on the other) He shared with me his love of the city and some of his favorite things about San Diego. His positive attitude was just what I needed after a 3+ hour road trip from LA. The room was fresh and modern. Our city view was AWESOME! My partner is a city geek and he and I were immediately in awe as we stepped out onto the bacony. I brought up some cocktails from the bar and we just stared out over the skyline while sipping our drinks in glee. Also because Beau helped with an early check-in, we still had enough time to splash around the pool while the sun was still out. A terrific belated birthday trip. Thanks Marriott Marriott Marquis team!

Convenient and comfortable

I spent nine nights at the Marriott Marquis Marina San Diego mixing a little family time with a business m trip. My few interactions with the hotel staff were very good, the conference facilities were good, and the proximity to the Embarcadero was excellent.

No bacon in the M Club Lounge

I can't believe this is a Marriott Marquis! The first time I ever stayed at a Marriott Marquis was at the Miami location; This was probably when it just opened up. I was blown away! Since then, we only stayed at a handful since it's a little bit more expensive than the other Marriott brands. So I was excited to "spoil" ourselves for this weekend trip down to San Diego! For the positives. The valet guys were great! Location is fantastic! Love the discount they gave with the bike rentals and other (selected) restaurants on the property. As for the rest. Check-in was horrendous. Long line (even in that special marriott bonvoy elite section). This is probably the second marriott hotel that did not allow early check-in. By "early", I mean 12 pm. That's not too bad at all, considering we usually check-out by 11am. Yeah, yeah, covid times but it wasn't until I rechecked when they miraculously had a room available! The room, while had a great view, had this strange sensor in the bathroom and the bathroom light would go off randomly at different times of the day, then would drastically change the temperature in the room (either too hot or too cold, A/C or heater would go off). very strange. We're platinum elite but they only had access to the lounge on Fridays, which was the WORST marriott dining experience I've ever experienced! This is comparing even the lowest tier chain of Fairfield, Courtyard, and even Residence Inns. Husband had to go up to the line a couple of times because they couldn't stock up the food fast enough. Only thing left was a small tray of eggs and sausages. They didn't even have bacon?!?! Asked why and they said they only offered bacon 2x a week (?!?!) Never heard such a thing. I was shocked to say the least. Nothing offered at the wine dispenser at cocktail hour, no alcoholic beverages. The hors d'oeuvres were ok but again, lackluster than what a Marriott Marquis would offer. The starbucks downstairs was less than honest too. You have to ask them to charge to the room (to get the resort fee credit) instead of it being automatic. I'm sure most people who go there are staying at the hotel, wouldn't be standard to have that process of charging to the room? Coffee was good though, at least. So I'll be generous and give this 2 stars (1- location, 1 - everyone we encountered at the property from the wait staff to the valet, bellman, housekeeping, and gift shop, were very friendly and accommodating). Too bad this hotel's standards have gone way down.

Poor management of guest experience

Over 1000 rooms two towers in dated rooms with poor soundproofing and slow elevators for all those waiting people on each floor. Never mind covid crowded elevators it is so slow for towers. Noise level summertime too much since sound reverberates in towers bouncing off each. Good location for conventions so assume that is why busy but avoid if want good experience. Also pets seem to sneak in so not sure policy is no pets. Who wants pets in your room before if sensitive to them never mind the whimpering all night. Not good experience

Good location. Ridiculously expensive during comic con

Reviewed 26 july, 2022

Has a great stay during comic con but disappointed with the severe increase of room fees during the week. Also there was no complimentary bottled water that we used to have. That was really disappointing too. Last night we didn't get our room cleaned. Don't know why.
