My new favorite hotel

Reviewed 29 november, 2021

My wife and I have been coming to comic con for years. We have stayed at many hotels. This is our place. Service, room, location... all great. The front desk was outstanding, Liz, Jessa, Mian, Elsa, Monica and Vero are the best. Polite and sweet. Its 6 blocks from the con, so it may not be ideal for those that have trouble walking, but there is a shuttle to the con if you need. We had such a great time. I almost dont want to tell ppl, but thats not me. Trust me this place is great. SDCC well be back and hopefully here at this Marriot again.

You check in at the bar, the BAR!!

Reviewed 28 october, 2021

From the moment I arrived at the Moxy I knew I was going to have fun. I walked around the lobby which includes a sitting area with board games for the family to enjoy, a bar right in the middle, a sitting area where the football game was showing and even an upstairs lounge. When I couldn't find the front desk, I asked the bartender where it was, and she said she could check me in. What!? So I checked in at the bar, grabbed my complimentary welcome drink and went up to my room. Most importantly, the room was sealed showing that no one had entered the room since it was cleaned and sanitized. The room is cozy, which is in line with the Moxy brand. Moxy is all about the public space and socializing. As I was traveling on a solo business trip, the room size was not an issue for me. The location is also perfect! I was able to walk around the Gaslamp Quarter and enjoy all it had to offer. If you are driving there is valet available and parking nearby as well. The service here is incredible! Each time I passed through the lobby I was greeted by someone or noticed the staff having conversations with other guests. My only regret is not trying the speakeasy! So I definitely need to be back. If you are looking for a fun hotel, with great service in a great location, the Moxy is for you!

A Millennials' Hotel!

Great location near the gaslamp, parking on scene is a big nope but there is a great structure nearby called "park it on market" I was able to park before checking in for a one night stay and get in my car the next afternoon for $16 total, well worth it. Check in was fun asf, free house bevvy to start the experience is absolutely my vibe, and standard drink prices were decent for the setting, love Love LOVE the games and general house party vibe. The room, was.... Tiny, and guess what? Still more comfy than the hoody your ex won't give back. Can see that the design is meant for people who have more in life happening then the square footage of their room. Perfect for a couple nights though I can see it getting weird on a long term stay. No view expect some weird lights in the main corridor, but if not for those lights I daresay i might have spotted some flesh from another persons room, so smart design choice there. No breakfast makes me sad, I wouldn't have eaten it anyway but I want my money's worth you know??? (gotta love that some people won't read the sarcasm there.) But considering the amount of local places to grab any kind of grub you could wish upon a star, I think most will be able to survive not being served a buffet of cheap over touched food. will be back!

Guinness Book of Records for World's Smallest Room Winner!

I have absolutely no complaints about the check-in. The bartenders/check-in desk were absolutely gracious and friendly, and they located our reservation with ease and no wait, and granted our request for a room on higher floor. And that's why I give it a star. The staff absolutely deserves it. Everything else was basically what I imagine a Super 8 hotel to be. The size of the room was a postage stamp. I've stayed in hotels all over the world, and this was by far the smallest room I have ever stayed in. You could get out of the bed on either side and hit the adjacent wall. Our room looked out onto a view...of another wall and a dozen other rooms. The only furniture besides the bed is a chair and a "ledge." Not a table, mind you, but a ledge thingie that you spend 10 minutes struggling to stick into the wall because they were too damn to cheap to actually buy a table. I feel bad for the hotel...are they hemorrhaging money so badly that they cannot afford an actual table for the room? Oh wait, that's right, there's not enough room for an actual table. There was a dessicated lime under our bed that was possibly 8 months-3 years old. If you have come to expect lotion in your hotel, good luck. If you have come to expect counter space in your bathroom, good luck. The toilet constantly ran all night. Instead of actual ice buckets, they give you paper ice buckets, which NEWSFLASH, leak when wet! Oh, and no housekeeping of course. Because that's now a luxury. Though housekeeping was kind enough to show up on the morning of our checkout, 2 hours ahead of time. They're eager to clean your room after you leave, but not while you're staying there. The shampoo and conditioner bottles took about 30 pumps each to dispense enough product to put into your hair. And there's a very odd window in the door that makes you feel like you're in a prison cell or mental hospital ward. Was that intentional? Scratch that, I'm feeling generous and am giving the hotel an additional star for water pressure and temperature. The check-in staff and the shower were the best parts of my stay.

Not for everybody, but worked well for me

This is a cute boutique hotel, which emphasizes style over size and quantity, in a great location. The first floor is a bar that opens to the street and serves you a cocktail upon check-in-and you do check in at the bar. I thought the drinks were plenty generous and the bartender was friendly. It was a mixed crowd-a few older couples, a few younger, and lots of singles mingling. A dance track plays all the time. So if you want something more sedate, or traditional hotel-y, this isn't your place. I had a queen room that was tiny, but big enough for me-and the bed is comfortable but takes up most of the floor space. The bathroom is again tiny, but well designed. Coffee is available in the morning, and a "grab and go" area with snacks, plus there is a menu which looked good. The street below is noisy, so bring your earplugs-but there are lots of people out and about and it seems safe enough to walk around to the nearby restaurants, shops and bars, which are plentiful. If you want a traditional hotel with more amenities and space, this isn't your joint, but I thought it was fun for a weekend.
