Just stayed here over Labor Day Weekend. Booked this hotel despite all of the subpar reviews because of the location and airport shuttle service. We did our research and saw that the shuttle goes to the airport every 30 minutes, but we waited for a whole 50 minutes in 100F and the shuttle never came. During this time, we called the hotel but was put on hold for 30 out of those 50 minutes. Ultimately, we took an Uber. We got to the hotel and informed the staff who was at the front desk while checking in (the Supervisor Seline or Celine - however their name is spelled). She was immediately callous and defensive even though we were informing her in a calm manner. She said we were supposed to let them know ahead of time for the shuttle to pick us up. I asked where it says on the website because how would guests know to do that? She barked back and asked "Well, how did you know the shuttle runs every 30 minutes?" I told her that it's on the website, but the part about needing to request it isn't. She was giving very "that's just the way it is" responses without acknowledging that this was a pretty miserable experience during the heat wave. We told her that this type of service wasn't satisfactory as we felt brushed off, and she said "Well I'm sorry we're not good enough for you" and stormed off to get the Director of Rooms. The Director of Rooms was quite nice. We felt heard (which is all we really wanted). He had the other staff member check us in which was smooth. He also said he would waive the destination fee for our inconvenience and for being subjected to the mean attitude that the supervisor had toward us (which we were still charged for - so that sucks). We checked into our room and it was very old, though lightly renovated probably a number of years ago. It smelled like cigarette smoke that was embedded into the carpet due to the age of the hotel. Overall the room was sufficient for a single night stay, but man the comforters are rough on the skin (felt like an exfoliator every time I rolled over). SUMMARY: Advantage: location Neutral: breakfast like frozen food but not bad Disadvantages: - price (over $300 for the most basic room) - quality (old, musty & dusty) - service (mean attitude from the supervisor, no follow through about waiving the destination fee) - incomplete shuttle instructions Overall: unsatisfied especially since we've been a pretty loyal Marriott Bonvoy family for the past few decades (multiple of us hold Gold Elite or Platinum Elite status) Pro tip - stay somewhere else, 99% chance it's better than this place and more worth the $

Great Stay - WiFi needs improving

We had spoken to the Hotel prior to staying and had requested rooms on a high floor and close together as had 2 rooms booked. Both requests were granted and rooms were allocated through the App before arriving. We arrived at the Airport and used the 'Chat with Us' function as we couldn't call for the Shuttle. Someone replied straight away and Isaac our driver arrived within 10 minutes. He was very chatty and friendly. Check In was very quick and keys were received within minutes. Rooms were next door and via a connecting door, rooms were very clean and large. 2 double beds, wardrobe and drawers for clothes. Large safe for all valuables. Large working desk if travelling for business and view from the rooms were amazing across the Bay. Housekeep visited daily and restocked toiletries and towels. You also receive a $10 a day voucher to use in the Bar. This will cover 2 soft drinks or a alcoholic drink each evening. We had arranged for a birthday cake to be delivered to the room, unfortunately this isn't arrive as planned but Janine was very apologetic and went through hoops to resolve this for us. The next evening, we arrived back to the room to find 2 bottles of Prosecco, some Chocolate cake and a cheese platter, very much appreciated! Staff are excellent and very friendly. Gym and Pool are amazing. Outdoor on the 3rd floor and heated. Whirlpool is lovely and hot. Great views at sunset. Towels are provided. Could do with drying facility. Wi-Fi could be improved, although it's free, it seems to be very temperamental and drops out a lot, it should have been a lot better

Good hotel, not great!

The hotel staff is very friendly. The room, especially the bathroom, was nice. Although the body wash dispenser in our shower was completely empty. I was bummed because the scent was nice (same as the shampoo and conditioner) and I was looking forward to trying it. Oh well. The room was clean and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. My gripes… during our 2 week trip to the area we stayed in at least 5 other hotels that were a fraction of the cost (at least a third of the cost). The Westin’s room, with the exception of the bathroom was no better. We had rooms with fridge AND microwave. The Westin only had a fridge. And when I asked the front desk about using a microwave I was told there’s a “public” one in the restaurant but only the restaurant staff could access it. They’d have to heat my food. :-/ The room seemed just a little worn, but it was ok. I realize hotels can’t update their furnishings every 2/3 years but again I stayed in comparable if not nicer furnished rooms at much cheaper hotels. WITH full body wash, shampoo and conditioner bottles in the shower. Lol The toilet was a little low surprisingly. The cable/televisions also seemed surprisingly limited. Most other hotels I stayed in had extensive satellite service and smart tvs. I paid $10 extra for a Bloomfield Hills view room. It wasn’t much of a view at all (just a trio of other tall buildings). But it was only $10 so no big whoop. The bay views were MUCH more expensive. I was already paying close to $500 for one night and wasn’t going to pay hundreds more to see water (but that’s just me). It may not sound like it, but overall I did like the room. :-) I used the public restrooms on the second floor twice. Once before checking in and once after checking out, while visiting the restaurant. The first day it was clean. The second day it was not. Paper towel laying everywhere and all of the sinks were backed up with dirty standing water sitting in all of them. That turned me off. The restaurant though was very good!! We got there after the breakfast buffet has ended. It looked really good though. The staff was very nice and offered us a table for the lunch menu which we accepted. The food was very good and the service was excellent. The hotel was also in a great central location. Super close to restaurants, the marina, public transportation. There is no free parking at the hotel but we happened to find a great parking spot super close and paid $3 until the paid time ended at 6:00 on Saturday. Honestly, I don’t even think a car is needed. We ended up turning ours in early and walking everywhere. That was really nice!! That leads me to the airport shuttle. A very nice free offering made by the hotel. That made checking our vehicle in early an even better idea. We dropped our vehicle off and called the hotel for the shuttle. I was told he’d be there in 5 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes I called back and was told he came but didn’t see us. Not sure how that was possible. We don’t think he ever came. In fact when he finally showed he apologized to us (and the 4 pilots that were waiting) for the wait. The shuttle TO the airport for our departure was much better. Really nice guy and smooth transfer. It’s a free/included service so I’m not really complaining. Overall, good not great. Some pluses and minuses to this hotel. For the price tag, I expected the Westin to be phenomenal. I stayed Saturday 9/3 and thought the cost was very high. It was nice but fell short of phenomenal. I’d stay again but only in a pinch. There are many other hotels that gave me exactly what I wanted for much less out of pocket expense.

Amazing stay

After an unexpected flight delay I chose the Westin to stay in for the night with my grandson before flying out the next day. Every employee I encountered from the front desk on was amazing. Everyone I spoke with was very engaging. My room was very clean and relaxing with a great view. There were multiple eating options in the hotel and it was in walking distance to other eating option.

Very nice stay -- great location!

This hotel is a short walk from the waterfront and a quick ride from the airport. It is a large hotel with nice waterfront views available, a great lobby bar, and a cool coffee shop. The hotel is showing its age a bit, but rooms are certainly clean and comfortable. I was disappointed to note that the nearby Gas Lamp District is really run down, post-pandemic, with closed businesses and many homeless people. I decided to avoid that area of the city for an evening walk to dinner.
