A good place for low budget

Whereas the neighbourhood is not verry welcoming, this hotel is a very good compromise for low budget travelers. The staff is very welcoming and helpful, and the rooms and bathroom are always clean. I recommend it.
Don't judge the book ...

The Tenderloin area is pretty challenging, and first impressions of this hotel equally so. I felt like turning around and going down the street to the Hilton ... for many many more $$$. However my room (I think Room 202) was spotlessly clean, had a nice bathroom, windows that opened (no view but fresh air) and a small refrigerator. There was just one power point in the room - so it was a bit of a challenge to keep the refrigerator going while charging / using various electronic devices. All this and more - but the place is just a few minutes' walk from Powell Street and cable cars and metro and Walgreens for hasty-tasty food. SFO is an expensive city - and this hotel may be the answer for budget-conscious travellers.
Good budget hotel, not for everyone

Yes it's in an unsavory neighborhood. However being a Male Solo traveler that was not a concern as i've seen urban poverty before so it's not a shock to me being a Los Angeles Native. My primary concern was the homeless being inside the hotel as many hotels serve as SRO tenements (welfare hotel). Which it is not, there is always someone in front to buzz you in and the rooms are clean. My main issue was the bright street lights that shine through the window slats. They should probably invest in black out curtains. So if you're you're looking for a budget hotel (in a city full of super expensive hotels) and not bothered by walking by homeless people go for it.

Stayed here at the start of a USA trip. "Curb side appeal" was not very good as their was homeless and literal drug takers out front. Room was very small for 2 single beds and also VERY hot with window wide open but no aircons or even fans. Also got woken up by management one morning even with a do not disturb sign for a tradie to check out a power point that we didn't know had an issue. Plus side is it's a very short walk to union square
Worst possible location

Street side room was extremely noisey, very dangerous area at night. Very basic rooms with shared bathroom for whole floor. Cheap for a reason, but probably better to spend an extra $20-40 and go anywhere outside this area.
