Nice hotel, good location

My husband and I started our trip in Costa Rica at the Gran Hotel. We were pleased with the room, the location and the service. Breakfast was tasty and the coffee was especially good. They were strictly (but kindly) adhering to COVID protocols. Everything seemed very clean and safe.

A good choice

Excellent location, in front of the theatre. Room very confortable, well equipped. Staff at breakfast a bit slow and not very proactive. Choice of food ok, nothing exceptional. Staff at front desk friendly and efficient. A very good choice for San Jose.

San Jose gem

This hotel is located in the center of everything. My friend and I took a last minute trip and this was our first time in Costa Rica. A beautiful building with a wonderfully helpful staff. Would highly recommend to anyone planning on staying in the area.

All in all not to bad but expected more for a 4Star Hotel. Here are a few negative things (nothing serious but still to mention), 1) Bathrobes only on request which are supposed to be in the room, 2) Very slow internet even thoughb it suppose to be faster Internet with the Superior Rooms, 3) Saterlite T.V channels didn’t all work (experienced that many times with Sky T.V in Costa Rica, 4) Housekeeping didn’t put the ironingboard & iron away just left it in the room, 5) Not all the Staff at breakfast were friendly, 6) Afternoon i asked for 2 Teabags of Gingertea because my wife had stomach problems which i was charged $5 just for 2 Teabags (without hot water). Positive: The Room is very quiet so the rooms are really very well isolated. Hotel Location is great.

Disorganized

The hotel's phone number did not work when we tried to contact them prior to checking in. Kept getting a busy signal. Wanted to find out if there was an airport shuttle so I called Hilton and had to wait on hold for 25 minutes, only to have the representative say she did not know because she couldn't get in touch with the hotel either. Turns out there was not an airport shuttle so we spent $80 extra getting to/ from the hotel. Once we got to the hotel, the representative did not properly activate our key cards so we got stuck in the elevator and could not get out. The "door open" button would not even work without a key card. Once we finally escaped the elevator, we had to wait in line again to get our key cards activated. The next morning, at breakfast, all of the two-top tables were dirty and had not been cleared of dishes. We asked a waitress to clear one so we could sit, and she instead insisted that we sit at the only remaining clean table, which was an 8-top set for a family. Eventually she cleared a two-top for us after we pleaded with her. Overall, it seems like the hotel is trying very hard to seem fancy but lacking in basic customer service and management skills.
