Great resort! Exceeded expectations!

Reviewed 23 january, 2022

This was our first trip to Cozumel. We had two teens with us and our stay at the Melia couldn’t have been better. We took an offer to upgrade our room to a family sweet for a small fee and I am so glad we did! We had an extremely comfortable king size bed in our own room and the kids had a bed each in another. I often read reviews to decide where to stay and I want to reassure those who would hesitate to stay that the staff at the Melia make the stay worthwhile! My teens loved Cesar in the entertainment staff! He played all kinds of games with them and volleyball every day! Melia has the best beach by far on the island! It is soft sand without rocks. There are small jellyfish in the water so be careful! The food was very good! We got reservations easily and tried both restaurants. Ruby making the tamales was awesome! We would like to invite her to come live with us if possible! William making drinks on the beach was always so friendly. All staff wore masks all the time and Covid precautions were taken seriously for those who are concerned about that. We all decided that we want to go back and would definitely stay at Melia again!

Another great stay

This was my second time staying at Melia Cozumel. I always read the reviews before I go and get worried reading some of them but for a second time now, we had a great stay and would absolutely go back again. I can be a little picky about where I sleep-last time we stayed in a one bedroom suite in the tower and it was awesome. This time we booked a garden view room because that’s all they had at the time and I was not pleased. It was dated and felt dingy and smelled of mildew. I got an email about a week before our stay to bid on an upgrade and my bid was denied. I asked at the front desk when we arrived what was available to upgrade and they had room in the tower to a royal suite. It was again very comfortable and quiet. Definitely upgrade or book a tower room-comes with amenities. You get a beach palapa which you used to get two times during stay, now it’s 1 time. We would check in around 11:30 and see if anyone didn’t show up for their reservation and two additional days we got lucky and got a palapa because someone didn’t show up. Gerardo the palapa waiter is fabulous and so precious. If you stay in the tower you also get a special sit down and order breakfast in the Paraiso restaurant-Rusbel was great there!! You also get priority dinner reservations if you stay in the tower. If you end up with a green wristband, I would absolutely upgrade. It was $480 more for the week and so worth it in my opinion. The workers work really hard and are so kind and willing to go out of their way. Absolutely tip everyone as much as you can. They are very grateful. I asked several days for some avocado to go with my eggs for breakfast and while it wasn’t out at the buffet, the waiter got me some. The Buffet dinner is hit or miss but you can get by with the cooking stations-had really good flank steak made to order. Breakfast is good at the buffet too-have Patricia make you eggs. I was pleasantly surprised with the food this time-it was even better than last time. The head chef Francisco is often seen asking how the food is. You can tell he tried really hard to change up the menu daily. Make reservations two nights ahead of time-I’d recommend iguana. Jorge is great! The shows at night are decent. They had a crazy New Year’s Eve show while we we there that went until 2am! They also offered mimosas the next morning at breakfast. Again, I feel like you can tell how hard the workers work and that alone makes for a nice experience. The grounds are always being mowed and trimmed. There’s a new coffee and ice cream station near kid pool that was nice to see. Be sure to ask for top shelf liquor in drinks-the mojitos and mudslides were great!

a real paradise on earth!

We were at the hotel fron Jan 4ft to 11th and we were able to upgrade uppon arrival to get the royal suite room. Absolutly worth the extra charge!! we were litterally 25 steps from our balcony to the beach and about the same distance from the beach bar! With a jacuzzi on the balcony and a direct view on the water we really felt like we had our own little piece of paradise. Room service was good, the ladys were very nice and polite and did a good job refreshing the room everyday however we had to request extra water as they did not fill up the mini bar everyday. Once we requested it was not hard to get our water. The staff is absolutly incredible and made us feel wonderful everyday. Special thank you to Tony (guest service) he was absolutly wonderful! always happy and just a great guy! and Rusben (waiter) (I hope I wrote his name correctly) Amazing service and very polite!! The hotel is not very big and so the restaurants or pool or lobby is never a long walk away. The food at both ''a la carte'' restaurants was very tasty! there was an international restaurant and a mexican restaurant open when we were there and we had no trouble getting a reservation at either. The buffet was not very big but the food changed pretty much everyday and we always found something good no matter what was served. There was activities daily but only at certain times. Batting cages, archery and paint ball but we always seemed to miss it. I would have prefered to be able to just go at any time to these activities. The night time entertainement was ok but as the hotel was only at about 40% capacity there was not many people at the shows. We had a great night at the circus show and the DJ night too :) Unfortunately there was alot of sargasso (seaweed) when we were there but the staff did a great job of picking it up daily so the beach side was still very pretty even if the water was murky. We did walk up to the next hotel (El Cozumeleno) to be able to snorkle and the water was beautiful on that side. We could rent snorkle equipment, padle boards and kayaks free for 30 minutes each day at the little cabana on the beach. We rented a buggy for a day with the guy right by the reception for 85 USD for 24 full hours, The buggy was ready for us right in front of the hotel. We did go into town the day before to get prices and the price at the hotel was the cheapest solution with the most time (in town it was only 12 hours). Cost to get to town (port area) was 100 pesos with the taxi. We took the El Cielo Catamaran tour offered with our airline company (AirCanada) it was 4 hours and we loved it. Definately get pictures taken by the professional on the boat if there is one. We had Julissa Lara Adeanda and she took amazing pictures under water during the snorkeling (for only 40 USD) The hotel does offer ''purell'' to wash your hands regularly, did take temperature in the morning at the buffet and does require that you wear your mask indoors all the time... unfortunately we had some guests who thought the mask was not necessary but the staff did watch them and request that thet put their mask on.. Overall we would go back anytime!! definately a great hotel!

Amazing staff!!!

The staff is what makes this resort, absolutely 💯 all friendly and extremely helpful. The young man at check in is a great person to have as a first impression. One of your waiters even seen is in town and remembered us from the dining room. The only thing that was disappointing and it's no fault of the facility because the location gets all the seaweed due to the rock pier.

Excellent vacation!

My husband and I stayed here from Dec. 7-21/21. We were very pleased with everything. The food, drinks, and entertainment were good. The snorkeling next door was amazing. We had a garden view 4th floor room. It had a great view of the pool and ocean and we could watch the nightly entertainment from our balcony. Lots of activities for all ages. We played mini golf, badminton, pickle ball and ping pong. They also have tennis courts. We will definitely go back. The only thing that needs improved is the white house wine. (not good at all).
