One week in paradise with Feeling Italy
I was told this villa was acquired by the ‘Feeling Italy’ team this year (2020), so this review will focus on our stay under the new management. The villa is located in a small town called ‘Colli di Fontanelle’ at the end of Via Belvedere. We were welcomed in the villa by Gianluca who showed us around, letting us know just about everything about the villa itself and the neighbouring towns and attractions. The town is very cute and is connected to the main towns such as Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi by bus, although it has to be said that these buses don’t always respect the timetable. The locals are absolutely amazing and extremely kind; nearly all of them don’t speak English but they did anything to help us tourists and my non-italian speaking friends all managed to communicate with them in one way or another. An important detail to note is that the house is about a 15 minute walk to the center of town if you’re not planning to take a car. The villa is spectacular: the light blue tiles, the breathtaking view, the refreshing seaside breeze and the silence that can only come from being in a small local town create a bubble of tranquility in which you can only relax and forget all other worries. The house was very clean when we got there, it’s well-stocked and also has WiFi. Under the new management there is now also a jacuzzi from which you can enjoy a drink and watch the sea. Finally, I need to say a few words about new management. Feeling Italy is a family run business where you are the one that counts, and they go to any length to make sure that you enjoy your vacations. They helped us book a fantastic boat trip to Capri, they changed the cancellation policy for us because we were afraid of coronavirus and when there was an issue with the hot tub they called a repairman straight away. Overall, I can only recommend this place
Splendid view, a bit isolated, owner hard to reach
We stayed there for a week to visit Amalfitan coast. We had huge difficulties contacting the owner to know how to organize our arrival : she did not answer our emails and the phone number given on the confirmation was wrong. After 1h with the hotline we finally had the good phone number but we had to ask twice the owner to know if she would be there. When we left, she again did not answer our messages and we did not know if she would be there and where to put the key... Though, the view from the terrace is really worth it. The apartment is clean and well decorated. The sheets and towels are not totally white anymore though. There is a door locked leading to the 2nd apartment and unfortunately you can hear the neighboors. It is isolated, 15 minutes walking (uphill) from a place with a small grocery, a bar and 3 restaurants. Fortunately, there is a small bus stoping 50 meters from the apartment, about 8 times a day. This bus takes you to the Amalfi and Positano bus and to Sorrento, Pompei and Napoli train.
Reservation prepaid cancelled by the hotel
I reserved and paid the room a month before our journey, getting the proper confirmation by the hotel. Days before arriving they cancelled the reservation with no explanation and left us without a place to sleep giving no compensation or getting another hotel. It is horrible to happen in an already planned trip and ruined our vacation in Italy. I strongly recommend to be careful about this place.
Mixed Opinion
The apartment is, on the surface, of a very high standard, and it's maybe because of this, that the negatives really stand out. I would say if you are only staying for a few nights, as happened in the adjoined apartment, then probably the negatives won't be a problem. But if you are staying for a week or longer they'll start to impact. Firstly, this is incorrectly advertised as an aparthotel which it most definitely is not. It is a stand alone building with no staff on site and no additional facilities. This was not an issue for us but may be for other people. Our apartment was joined to the one next door by sliding doors which we believe were locked. Great idea to be able to open it to a larger apartment but obviously made the walls thin and would be a problem if the neighbours were noisy. Bathroom - looks really great, constant hot water. On arrival there was no toilet paper until I pointed this out to the manager and we then got 3 rolls, after which we had to buy our own, or help ourselves from the cleaners cupboard. The little stand mirror, was in a basket on the top of the vanity unit. When I came to use it, it was really filthy! The 'window' opens on to the cleaners' cupboard which is a narrow room running across the back of the bathroom and bedroom and accessed from outside. I mention this because we noticed black mould on the wall tiles close to the floor, which seemed to get worse during our stay and believe that to stop it spreading you need to keep the window fully open at all times. The shower also didn't empty very quickly and we think the drain is part blocked and the cause of the black mould which we also found in the lobby outside the bathroom, into the lounge/diner/kitchen and on the back wall in the bedroom. Bedroom - black mould on the bottom of the wall which backed on to the cleaners' cupboard. No batteries in the remote control unit (luckily the other remote worked it) and we had to leave the wardrobe door open all the time as there was a fusty smell in it. Kitchen/diner/lounge area - only a tiny space to work on, in front of the microwave which was situated on a board, you could pull out, so you could access the double socket at the back. Presumably this was to plug in the toaster but the lead was too short to be able to do this. Otherwise in this whole area, there were only 2 other sockets and one had the floor lamp plugged in to it. Overall in the apartment there are insufficient sockets to meet with modern needs. There is a dishwasher but unless you were doing a major cook using all the pans, it's a bit redundant as there is only 1 set of crockery and cutlery for 4 people. Black mould along the bottom of the wall from the bathroom in to the dining area and it seemed to be getting worse. There is an 'info' book but it has no instructions or information on the property itself, eg we had no idea what the control panel outside the bedroom was for but think it might be for the gate. The aircon we worked out for ourselves but a setting of 16 degrees (the lowest it went to), in no way got that cold - the place was too warm even with it on. There was also central heating but no idea if that was connected to the aircon. Our first night it was quite cold but we got warm air from the aircon. The info book hasn't been updated from 2017 to 2018 although the bus timetables didn't seem to have changed. There were no spare sheets and towels in the apartment. We arrived Wednesday. After 3 days we messaged to ask for a change and was told Monday was the change day! On Monday we got back to find a bag with towels outside but no sheets which we eventually got in the evening after chasing them up. As we were leaving on Tuesday of the following week we didn't get any further changes. I would have expected to at least have had a supply of sheets and towels so we could make our own changes. There's a washing machine so we could even have washed them ourselves! Absolutely no cleaning service was provided which, considering there is a daily charge for it, is a bit of an insult. I eventually found cleaning stuff in the cleaners' cupboard and was on my hands and knees scrubbing the shower tray which I was pretty annoyed to have to do on holiday when I employ cleaners at home! Outside there were no sunloungers, although we'd seen them in the adverts, and no parasol although there was a stand for one with instructions to take down when not in use due to the wind. Another message to the managers to ask for sunloungers and a parasol to be told there aren't any but we'll ask the owner. By luck I found in the cleaners' cupboard an umbrella parasol (which I had to clean) and there was a stand for it outside our apartment so at least we were able to sit outside all day when we were resting from sight seeing. If you don't have a car (we didn't) and aren't in to exercise, it is a 15 minute uphill walk to the village. Now for the positives - It is a lovely looking property, furnished to a high standard with lots of nice ornaments and pictures. The sofa bed in the kitchen/diner/lounge was amazingly comfortable; I slept on it for 13 nights. There is an ironing board and iron (didn't use either) and a fold up airer for drying things. All the windows have roller blind mosquito meshes. The main door has a sliding mosquito mesh but we didn't find it until week two! The main door also has a really good lock and there are excellent shutters outside. Inside there are either curtains or a good roller blind. A gardener comes to mow the lawn etc at least once a week. The wifi seemed to work fine at all times for us (in another review someone said it didn't work after 8pm). The local shuttle bus between Sant'Agnello and Colli di Fontanelle picks up from the little open area which is a 5 second stride from the apartment. However, it doesn't always come down the lane and the timetable in the apartment only gives times and not stops. I think it probably only comes down the lane in the early mornings and teatime to pick up/drop off workers. It's only 1.30 euros and you can get off just across from the railway station in Sant'Agnello. You pay cash on this bus.. The views from the apartment are amazing. It gets the sun from early morning until late afternoon. There are lots of bushes going down the outer wall to the sea and there are a lot of insects including many beautiful butterflies. There is a remote controlled high level gate to the property and solar lights in the grounds so no stumbling about in the dark. As requested our transfers were organised. On arrival at Naples railway station our driver was waiting for us which was nice. To catch our flight home we had to leave at 3am and again our taxi driver was waiting when we came out just before 3am. This was particularly a relief as I don't know what we'd have done if he'd not been there. It was 85 euros each trip. Finally, I wouldn't stay at this apartment again because of the black mould (we did report this to Conny when we saw her) and lack of service which becomes a problem after 3 nights. The following should be provided and can easily be done - spare sheets and towels (there is plenty of storage space); parasols over the table (the stands are there); sunloungers (as in the photos); up to date info book with more info on the apartment; some element of cleaning every 3/5 days considering it says it is an aparthotel and has a daily charge for cleaning. One final thing, on arrival, I asked about payment and was told it would be automatically taken from my card. We've been back home for 10 days and it still hasn't been taken so maybe I'll be changing the review to 'excellent value for the money'. As nice as Conny and 'sexy husband' are, I think the owner needs to improve the management requirements or this place will go downhill rapidly.
Excellent views. Quiet location
We stayed here for four nights. The views are breathtaking. You are away from the hustle and bustle of the more tourist populated towns. The apartment itself is fantastic. Has everything you need. We dealt with Conny who was excellent and very accomodating. The village itself is a quaint rustic Italian with a fantastic restaurant and supermarket and a few coffee bars. The bus stop to and from the popular places is at the top of the road
