Good location, stale cigarette smoke

We paid $155/night. Santa Barbara is expensive, but our room was very, very basic. Double bed, 2 hooks in the sink area to hang your clothes. No mini fridge, microwave or coffee maker. But the worst was that our room reeked of smoke. I called down to the front desk & was offered to have someone come up to our room & spray something to help. I am not interested in a spray that is trying to mask the stink, it would just add another smell. A room should not smell like anything, especially cigarettes. I thought all motel/hotel rooms in California were smoke free? They should not be renting out rooms before properly treating the room, all the bedding, including the pillows should have been washed. The big positive is it is conveniently located & they had treats for our dog.
Cheap, but dirty

In town to visit son. Received a good price $83 inc tax. 1st room smelled like a smoker lived there. Changed rooms. Smelled better, but dirty. Sink had some mold, tub and surrounds very dirty. Floor dirty (as noted by the dirt from my feet when I stepped into the tub/shower).

This is a classic american motel, nice, new, with pool at the middle of the building. There is a big parking for cars and trucks. The place is cheap. There are some dispencer and a laundry very usefull at the hall.
Pay More, Get Less

I am cheap. No doubt about it. And I travel cheap which is okay by me. I don't expect a lot from an inexpensive hotel and wonder about others who carp about bad stays at inexpensive motels. Pay more if you want more I say. If a place is okay and inexpensive, I am at peace with it. THIS hotel is NOT okay because it is more than I want to pay and got less than I thought I deserved. ($130 a night) First of all, I get that it is Santa Barbara which is a destination spot, but this hotel room had NO microwave, NO refrigerator, NO coffee pot in the room, NO breakfast (They set out a pot of coffe on a small table in the even smaller office. NO tea or other beverages). My friend's room had a fist hole in the closet door!!!!! The bed is on a wooden platform and when I awoke the next morning, the entire mattress had slid toward the air conditioner, leaving me with a six inch ledge on my side. The towels are basically the stuff one would shine their shoes with. (I judge rooms by their towels. This one gets a D). My bathtub was dirty. Not filthy dirty, but stained and made shower time NOT a good thing. There was a very noisy party outside (I was on the first floor) and while I know it is not the hotel's fault, the access to my room to State Street (a main drag) made it the only access to other rooms. Cheap hotels are good. This was not.

Stayed here three nights a week for two months last year. Everything was “as advertised” with no surprises. Small pet was accommodated for without hassle. Price is market for this part of town. Staff was well trained. Rooms were clean. Thank you!
