I brought my Mom here, her 1st trip in many years. While the hotel itself is nice, and we had a nice family brunch at One Pico, the area is such a detriment to the property, I would not recommend staying here if you are hoping for a relaxing stay looking at the water. We got her what should have been one of the best rooms, pier and ocean view, with a balcony, over $1000 per night. Problem is the area that the hotel has no control over is a HUGE problem. Tried to enjoy the balcony, and there was awful loud music non stop. Since the hotel claimed to know nothing about it, I did my own research and found this information: "This party happens every weekend at the beach from 3 pm onwards , it is clearly violating city’s noise ordinance but the Santa Monica PD is unable to do anything as they don’t have the tools to measure sound and enforce the noise ordinance.". Then the next morning, she had the pleasure of listening to a women that was doing drugs screaming obscenities right under her balcony. The hotels in this area should really push the city on finding a resolution to these items.
Don't bother looking for a drink at this hotel ...

I can't even begin to comment on the snotty, rude, staff at the restaurant on the boardwalk at this hotel. We were staying up the street at The Viceroy and decided to venture down to the beach for a walk mid afternoon and perhaps a drink and some snacks. We stopped in at Shutters and asked for a table on the patio only to be told that there were none (there were many open tables) to be had -- OK, how about inside we asked. The hostess basically told us that there were no tables in the bar (there were many) but we could seat ourselves right outside of the bar in the glaring sun at a ledge but that we would have to get our own drinks. WTF? I've stayed at Shutters in the past so am familiar with the hotel but have never experienced this type of careless nonsense or customer service. We hit the road and headed back to the Viceroy where they were happy to see us back and promptly got us a table for a drink and some snacks.

One of the most accommodating places I have visited in California. The staff were fantastic and very welcoming and accommodating. The food was excellent too. I will visit here every time I will be in California.

We’re staying here for three nights and although the hotel is in a good location on the beach, we have never stayed somewhere more loud. As other reviews have mentioned, when other guests talk in the hallway or slam their doors at 3:30AM, it sounds like the noises are occurring within your hotel room. The balconies are also VERY close together and we heard every word of our neighbors’ conversation late at night. The road outside is also very noisy. They need to improve their soundproofing of windows and doors because it is impossible to sleep through the night. I would give up the location and stay elsewhere in LA before coming back here. Although reception was extremely kind and provided an amazing check-in experience, service in the restaurant and lobby bar was lackluster. The décor also needs a refresh. Overall a disappointing experience that was definitely not 5 star.

The best! True 5star. Valet is the best I’ve seen. Front desk are so professional and serving. Lobby is so inviting and beautiful. Sunsets from the terrace are gorgeous. It’s difficult to leave such a wonderful place. Absolute perfection.
