I’m so grateful 10/10, not a hostal at all

I tried Hostal La Colonia because it came recommended in the Lonely Planet. After my trip from Punta Cana to Santo Domingo, I must have been so tired. When I checked in, I initially wanted to pay cash but later opted to pay by credit card. In the confusion, I lost track of my cash and didn’t notice that I had not but it in my purse. The gentleman bellow in the picture is Edwardo, the person who checked me in. He personally sought me out to return my money. In a country most work so hard and I could understand how it would be tempting to keep a sizable amount of currency. I was so touched by this man’s honesty that I needed to snap a photo to remember him. The maids, the reception, the location is excellent.
Great value for money

My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights. The hotel is clean, nice communal balcony’s on each floor, central location close to everything in the colonial zone. The staff were very friendly and were eager to help us with whatever we needed. The day I booked this hotel I looked and 8/9 in the area and this one was by far the best value and nice. There’s no lift but abit of exercise never done anyone any harm. Don’t hesitate to book this place if your looking for good, clean, and convenient accommodation in the colonial zone. You can’t go wrong.

Hostal La Colonia has a good spot in the Colonial Zone in Santo Domingo. The staff is friendly and helpful and maked my stay easy. The rooms are clean and comfortable. In the neighbourhood you can find museums and other attractions and also the nice Columbus square right around the corner.

I stayed 8 nights on this quaint hostal in the middle of the colonial area of Santo Domingo. The staff was very friendly and nice. Very accommodating. I asked to be change to a room with a window and they did the same day I checked in. They have a nice little cafe one block from the hotel where a very friendly staff will cook or serve you a delicious meal. There is no elevators in this hotel so the stairs are a must! :-) A morning coffee on the house was my daily delight... If you need something from the hotel, you must go to the front desk because there is no phones installed in the rooms. Every floor had a sitting area with a balcony so you can hang out with friends or by yourself. Lots of security cameras in the hotel and two man in the night shifts will wait for you in case you go out late at night. It's very centrally located so you can walk everywhere. Don't recommend walking at night on the dark streets weather you are along or with someone! There is a salsa club three blocks down from the hotel!

Great location and price

I stayed in hotel across the street but staff here were very helpful showing us rooms and explaining their prices and services. The location is perfect and i thought the bathrooms were adequate. Rooms were moderate size but common area with balcony to street seemed appealing Hotel we stayed in had much inferiour bathroom. We sat on our balcony facing this location and while there is a liquor store and variety/snack bar location close by, there is no bar beside and the businesses we saw closed by 11 pm so not sure about the noise comments in previous posts. No coffee maker or meals, but Holdepa across the street had great food and also many cafe/restaurants 1/2 block away. I would absolutely give this hotel a try if I return to this city.
