We stayed at the Moderna for 2 weeks early June. On arrival we wasnt greeted, just given a pen and piece of paper to fill out to check in. Other than the lack of enthusiam and customer service from The reception staff, we were checked in very quick and were taken to our room. We were in block 800 on the 2nd floor, we had a pool view and balcony, which is what we had paid for.I beleive this is the new block. Block is close to restaurants and aqua park, but is the furthest block away from the beach, also no good if you cant do stairs as there are no lifts. The room was spacious with plenty of storage,aircon, tv and kettle.There were no mirrors, which was odd, only the bathroom one,and nowhere to sit other than the beds. There were 3 beds, one low single one, and 2 pushed together to look like a double. The beds were really comfortable,but personally I prefer a double bed not 2 together, but we slept really well. Big shower, just had to be careful you didnt get 3rd degree burns where it randomly changed temperatures on its own. A small fridge, which froze everything, and a hair dryer that was as much use as drying your hair in a fart. Overall,after using antibacterial wipes to clean everything in the room,and for the money we paid it was acceptable, but certainly not 5 star, more 3. The tv had 2 channels if you are English, so a bit more choice would have been nice, but good old Netflix and a HDMI lead from home saved us though. Wifi- patchy but seemed to work well in the room. We had a wifi box too which I would advise if you go out and about. Food- basic, but there was a big choice, not much local good which was a shame, so we ate the same thing most days from the main restaurant. Very repetitive, but what do you expect at a cheap all inclusive for 2 weeks? Snack bar by the beach ok if you like chips, suspicious looking hot dogs,and pizza riddled with disease, from all the birds pecking away at it. But the staff still let people feed the birds in the food area, which encouraged them🤦‍♀️ Sunbeds- now my other half is a sun worshipper and an early bird so he was up and sunbathing by 6am most days. I also see debates about reserving sunbeds, but it isnt actually holiday makers them selves reserving them, it was the staff! Despite there being a sign on every umbru saying no reservation. Fair enough if you are up early, but many, especially this one large group, had 12 beds saved at the front of the pool and didnt show up until 1-2pm everyday!! Totally unfair when those genuine people who had had a lay in, or needed to stay near a toilet came down to find empty reserved beds with nobody on them! We did mention this but it fell on deaf ears, and if the staff are getting tips to save them then I cant see how that will change, you will have to beat them to the pool like us to make sure you get the spot you want. There are plenty of beds though, but you will probably end up under a tree on the pitch and putt green! Entertainment- the only enthusiastic one was Denis, who was getting more sun burnt by the day, so if you see him, cream him! Compared to other entertainers at other egyptian hotels, this was awful.... they need some inspiration or a pay rise to actually entertain people. Drinks- vodka is like paint stripper, even when asking for a tiny amount, so I but mine at the airport and top up my sprite by the pool with Smirnoff. Partner said the beer was tangy, but he still had 15 pints a day so bearable. Wafi the main pool barman works very hard, he remembers what drinks you have throughout the day and is very attentive, a tip goes a long way. Beach- cant swim in the sea, its too shallow from the reef, nice to walk in, I did have a flip flop blow out though trying to avoid the sharp stones, so invest in some of those lovely sea shoes and you wont hurt your feet. Jetty- it was lovely to walk out along the jetty, nice welcome breeze and can see some fish. Snorkeling ok at the end of the jetty, not always open as its a little rough,especially if not a confident swimmer. Not as good as the reefs we have seen in Hurghada, the area needs to be bigger than they let you swim in but appreciate its for safety. Dont use hotel shop unless you literally are happy to throw money away. Walk out the entrance, turn right, there's a shop 2 minutes away on the same side of the road, or turn left and the metro is about 20 mins, but it seems more like 200 mins in the blazing sun with no breeze. Overall, we got what we went for...a tan, and what we didnt- a dose of the squits. My fiance is still not right and weve been home a week. Would we go back- yes, but only if on a really cheap deal. Tips- get as many room keys as you can as the doors are awful and the keys never seem to work, reception staff were rude and adament we put the key with our phones, however our phones were locked in the safe, and it happened several times. Oh, we got back to our room every day to great towel art, and a mirror appeared half way through week 1!

2 persons on a 14 night stay at the moderna. Having previously stayed at the pick albatros aqua vista in hurghada (which was excellent) we decided to choose another pick albatros resort for sharm. Which was a mistake. Check in was fine and took around 1 hour. On the second day we reported an issue with earwigs and constant knocking on the door when the do not disturb sign was on. Neither issue was addressed. A couple of days later both myself & my partner woke up to the door wide open? Again, reported to reception desk. It took around 4 days for the lock to be fixed. Throughout our stay, we had around 25+ door cards as they decided to completely stop working after using once. This in itself was extremely frustrating having to visit reception each time you wanted to enter the room. Both myself and partner were sick around the second week of our stay, and I am still sick now after returning last Wednesday. Not sure if the sickness was caused by the food or ice but it was clear that many guests were sick. Children vomiting on the terrace etc ….. As you can expect with any 14 night stay, the food can become repetitive. The only change on the menu was at dinner and lunch where they would offer beef, fish, chicken and extremely dry koftas in rotation. However, other than the koftas we had no issues with the food. The entertainment at this resort is non-existent. The evening entertainment is the worst I have experienced in any resort. The poor day time and evening entertainment staff (Russian and Ukrainians) are trying their best but look shattered each day from having to visit a nightclub the previous night. One of the Egyptian entertainers is possibly the rudest man I have ever come across. Extremely pushy and does not like being told no when attempting to force guests to immediately purchase bingo tickets. A couple of days before we left another Egyptian man arrived from the other pick albatros resort, I believe his name was Luca? He was brilliant and the type of entertainment staff this resort needs on site on a regular basis. Denis is also a great member of the entertainment staff. The rooms may be renovated, but you will easily notice plenty of shocking finishes. I would also recommend that all guests check under the beds on check in and immediately request that the room is deep cleaned early on …. You will also notice works going on around the hotel and lots of dust. I cannot fault the grounds staff who work tirelessly to keep to public areas immaculately clean and tidy. On check out (we paid for late check out) my partner was advised that we required the towel cards to check out and if we did not get them from the towel guy (at the beach) we would be further charged. My partner rushed to the beach and spent 15 minutes essentially begging the towel man to return the cards. Which they refused over and over. Thankfully, in the end, they provided the towel cards. When I questioned to reception why they do not inform guests when checking in that the towel cards have to be provided in order to check out, we was rudely advised that all guests must take time to read the back of the towel card?! I am sorry; but who on holiday prioritises reading the reverse side of a towel card whilst away?!!! I requested to speak with management and around 5 minutes before our transfer arrived (they was aware of our transfer time) a man from reception arrives and says he is speaking on behalf of management who are unavailable. He was clueless and again advised that all guests must read towel cards. This resort is far from being 5 star and the reception staff require URGENT customer service training.

Sick

Me and my partner both fell ill and got severe diarrhea for the whole duration. Beach is nice. Emailed the hotel for the new upgraded room and was given a old standard shabby room. Entertainment is alright nothing great. Ends at 9.30 so after that there’s nothing really to do. Taxi guy in the hall will try to rip you off for small journies so you have to haggle him. Very expensive. Not much to do in the area just long roads of desert. Food was repetitive and lots of Russians. ( we was British and couldn’t really see too many Brits) nothing wrong with Russians but they are just abit cold and to themselves. Each to their own lol. On the day of check out we had 2 guys knock saying we have to leave by 12. Very inconvenient when you have a late flight back to London. Cleaning was good the cleaner was great kudos to him. Came every day and provides fresh towels and water. The only thing we really enjoyed was the sea and snorkelling (buy snorkelling kits from sports direct before you come) and enjoy the fish. The only thing that ruined this holiday was getting sick from the food.

Sickness

Just returned from a weeks holiday. We where joining our family who where staying for 2 weeks. Out of 13 of us 12 got horrific sickness. There where people being sick in the night time entertainment, the toilets in the dinning room and the kids pool was constantly closed due to accidents. So we can only assume it’s either the food or pool water. We spoke to a few family’s who where also sick. WI-FI was a real let down. The entertainment was bordering on torture. The hotel it’s self was beautiful but a week felt like 3. A large number of the guest where Egyptian and there children where very nasty to ours to the point that a life guard had to step in at one point and actually tell one family off.

Amazing hotel, lots to do

This hotel is massive and there is always something to do, everyday for food in the main restaurant we had a waiter who always found us a table and was always happy, also Mohamed osama at the beach bar is absolutely fantastic definitely the best Barman and deserves so much credit for such a fab holiday. I would always like to thank Dennis and boda from animation team for always making us smile and laugh everyday and always chatting to us.
