This place is a disgrace We stayed august 21 when cleanliness should have been at its upmost…..there is no doubt it wasn’t The place was dirty The staff were on the whole lovely and friendly The lady on reception was CRAP we complained She couldn’t care less I’ve never seen anywhere so dirty

I made a complaint and so did my partner! I’ve had no response yet but my partner has! What a response! Good Morning We have just arrived home after a 1 night stay with you. What can I say… I am disappointed, embarrassed and upset. My partner booked a last minute room with you as a surprise for me for our anniversary. When I arrived the building looked beautiful. Upon arrival We checked in with a girl at reception and we were told where the bar area was and the dining room area was and what time food service was in the evening. We sat and enjoyed a couple of drinks in the bar and at 6.45pm we went to go get some food from the dining area, only to be told that we couldn’t get food as we had to book it 48 hours in advance as you only had 1 chef on and were short staffed. (how could we have booked 48 hours beforehand on a last minute deal). The lady was so rude and basically ordered us out the restaurant which was an embarrassment. I went to reception and said can we order room service instead as there was a menu left in our room saying we can order up until 8.30pm, to which I was told no again. The lady on reception then had the cheek to say, are you struggling to go and drive and get food? I left the reception in tears. In the end we ordered in food from a near by restaurant as we had both had 2 drinks at the bar so could not legally drive. This morning we woke up and left without breakfast as We assumed we had to book that 48 hours in advance too and in all honesty I did not want to be humiliated again in front of people in the restaurant. We had travelled over 2 hours to stay the night with you for what should have been a lovely anniversary night away but instead turned into a complete nightmare. I would not recommend you and I feel the £81 paid was not worth the visit to just stay in the room with our ordered in food. I do not want other people to have the experience I had so may I suggest you inform guests before they arrival if they have to book food in advance! My sister and I were looking forward to starting our journey together and booked a day pass at Haughton Hall gym. To cut a long story short we were there 10 mins. Shocking, don’t waste your time. We were shown through to the gym by an incompetent member staff who then just left us to it. We asked about the equipment/weights but we had no advice or support at all, just told we could get on with it. He did not ask about our medical history or anything. Lacking in cleaning equipment. It stated to wipe down after using but we were not shown where this was?? A member in the gym informed us that he’d never had an induction! We tried speaking with the staff member about our concerns only to be told he was sorry. Very disappointed to say the least. Definitely won’t be returning. Don’t waste your money.

We visited this hotel late due to our trip being postponed because of COVID. After what has been an extremely difficult year, we were really looking forward to the break and had arranged months in advance. We received no communication prior to the booking so we rang to make sure everything was in place before arriving. The hotel confirmed it was and that we would have to book treatments on arrival and could check in at 3. We arrived at half 2 due to traffic and we’re informed that the treatments were booked for 2pm so we’d missed them. We told the lady on reception we hadn’t been informed and she didn’t care and said it wasn’t her fault. She sent us to the spa. At the spa, they admitted it was their fault, no one had typed our details into the system therefore we weren’t informed. They then said we could use the pool instead as they couldn’t fit us in and made us feel it was our fault. We explained I’d had a miscarriage the week before therefore I couldn’t use the pool to which the therapist inventively responded ‘well you wouldn’t have been able to have a massage anyway because we advice women under 12weeks pregnant don’t have treatments’. The man behind the desk looked mortified at what she’d said given is just explained I was no longer pregnant as I’d lost our baby. They then said we could have our treatments the follow morning but we’d have to miss our breakfast in order to do so. The manager offered no apology or compensation for their error. The receptionist interrupted the meeting with the manager to tell us she needed a decision regarding our morning massage there and then because the morning therapist needed to know what time to get to work (it was 3pm and I was visibly crying). Manager lacked any empathy and by this point I was so upset at what the therapist had said that we chose to end our stay after half an hour. The hotel is old and smells like an old people’s home and extremely outdated. It is a shame because it could be a beautiful hotel and is set is beautiful grounds but is not well maintained. Staff were rude and had an attitude like they hated their jobs. This is the second time we’ve posted a review as our previous one mysteriously vanished. Don’t be fooled by the pictures.

Such a shame. This location has an amazing potential. However,the building is neglected. Housekeeping is atrocious. Our room with four poster was dirty, The bathroom had not been cleaned. The floor had engraned dirt in the floor tiles. We had prepaid and requested a cancellation within 15 minutes of arrival. The manager was the rudest most arrogant person I have ever come across in the whole of the hospitality industry that I have encountered. I see there are 4 star reviews. Pure invention. As are the photographs. Don't stay. Go to Ironbridge instead
