Candlewood suites disappoints again…

Reviewed 7 december, 2021

This is my second Candlewood suites stay… same problem old renovated building with a guest laundry which has 4 washing machines but only one works. I really think IHG is trying to phase out the Candlewood brand… with good reason. I was trying to do a monthly stay… they wanted to charge me 84 per night!! Nope I don’t think so…

Candlewood Suites Smyrna TN

Reviewed 28 july, 2021

Candlewood Suites in Smyrna is the same sort of run of the mill, cookie cutter hotel that populates every interstate exit ramp. Little imagination, no views, no character, just a utilitarian box. Nonetheless the room was clean and bed was comfortable. Plenty of electrical outlets spread across the room to charge devices. Kitchenette includes full size refrigerator, sink, two burner stove, coffee maker and microwave. Plates, cups, mugs and utensils are supplied as well as pots & pans to cook with and Tupperware type containers to store leftovers. Amenities include a 24 hour exercise room, a gazebo with grill and small swimming pool. Might be a cookie cutter, but the hotel was clean, quiet and serviceable.

Never Again

Reviewed 11 june, 2021

This place is gross! The hotel is not that old to be this worn out. I’m pissed that I’m stuck here for one additional night because all the hotels are sold out in the area. Room 204 is a hell hole. There is dust everywhere, the ceiling is peeling, the faucet moves, water stains in the ceiling, dirt in the corners of the floor, the toilet seat is chipped. My skin has been crawling since we checked in. Completely unacceptable.

The room was substandard for cleanliness

Reviewed 27 april, 2021

We will never stay here again. About the only plus to this is that it is relatively quiet. Relatively, because our room was next door to the elevator. The one elevator for the whole three (3) floors of the motel. The room was absolutely filthy. The floor in front of the elevator and in the hall was dirty too with litter. The room is considered a suite because there is a small kitchen area near the door. The kitchen area was too dirty to use. Fortunately, we did not depend on that on this trip. The microwave was near the floor, which made me gag as the area near the floorboards had debris pushed up against it. When we took two mismatched water glasses from the dishwasher, I inspected them AND rinsed them out. I immediately saw the THICK layer of dust on the arm chair and warned my husband from even brushing against it. The bedside stands were dusted off but the carpet had both dust and debris on it. The window had big dirt smears on it and I scarcely wanted to touch the curtain pulls. The long desk had been dusted off and that is where our clothes and food went; the hangers in the closet had heavy dust on them too. The waste baskets had been emptied and the window was closed (good). The bathroom floor had debris on it, as did the bathroom counter next to the Watkins products (love Watkins). I’ve seen worse showers but still there was black mold on the grout in the shower as well as on the outside on the tub grout line, as well as peeling paint next to the mold (water damage). The toilet had no lid and looked like something from a high school boys locker room; it thankfully was clean. However, the toilet flange where it is connected to the floor was completely BROKEN. We advised the front desk; it should not have been in use! The shelves below the sink holding the towels were very dusty/dirty and beat up. There were nasty brown leakage stains (water?) all over the bathroom light fixture, which also made me gag. I took a photo but it was hard to capture the stains on a photo. The light fixture was yellowish and was full of dead bugs, as was the one in the main room. The bathroom sink had hair in it; my husband thought it looked like a man’s armpit hair (seriously and GAG). There were very few plug-ins so it was difficult to charge devices overnight. We would’ve gone elsewhere but it was after 11 pm and we were desperate. We had had a very long day on the road from Fort Myers; we had stayed at the Murfreesboro Candlewood and had been quite impressed, so we relied on that. Frankly, we were both grossed out, but were exhausted and had a small pet with us. When we went to bed, we carefully rolled down the comforter. There were two pillows per side; I found one comfortable one but it smelled strongly of women’s perfume (NOT mine!). I fell asleep on what I guessed was a pre-used pillow case (gross) which I had intended to discard.… My husband couldn’t get comfortable with his two pillows and slept poorly. The mattress itself was comfortable. The next day, our pet freaked out and hid under the bed. It was an old-fashioned bed that is on legs, so he was really able to hide from us. The furniture isn’t movable, so I used the ironing board to push him reluctantly out from under the bed. Then, as I had to lean my forearm on the floor to get my pet, I had a nasty allergic reaction; my forearm turned red with hives and swelled up. The area on my skin affected was about 4 to 5 inches long and about 3 inches across. The carpet was gritty on both sides of the bed. Under the bed it was VERY dusty. I also found a long piece of plastic from a food wrapper (approx. 12-14 inches long and very visible) and a TV remote control. I left the dirty bed dust ruffle tucked up so that housekeeping would hopefully vacuum under the bed. YUCK. We also discovered there are no "Do Not Disturb" or "Housekeeping Requested" hangtags for the door. This was a real headache when I was trying to get our pet out from under the bed as I had to help my husband get our luggage out, and housekeeping was down the hall. I didn't want the door opened with our pet escaping.... We did leave a good tip for housekeeping even though the room was dirty when we got there. We hoped it would be an encouragement. There were two rolling luggage racks available which was nice, but they were very light weight and difficult to use with a pet carrier and boxes (we brought in electronics over night, no way would we leave valuables in the car anywhere even with window tinting on the vehicle). The front desk staff were pleasant; in the morning my husband was asked how his stay was. I was ignored, but I actually was glad I wasn’t asked. My painful hives might’ve responded. The initial charge to our credit card was higher than our final charge; we are members of a rewards program and the pet charge was taken off after-the-fact (or at least that was the explanation I heard). So that was good. There were a few good things but the filthiness of the room rivals anything I have seen in other countries and in the tropics. That is where the one-star rating comes from. I hope all of my photos upload, where we are right now has weak internet. Will NOT stay here again!

Good, just a few challenges. Still fine place

I spent a night of stay cation here. Nice and quick check-in. Staff great and Everything. The bed this time was hard as a rock, and I had trouble sleeping, but the pillows were good and the room nice and clean. I got a freebie from the sundry shop, and the items were reasonable. Lobby clean, free tasty coffee. The next morning housekeeping knocked on the door at 9:30am. Checkout is 11am, I was asleep. I assumed Housekeeping not supposed to do that til after checkout, and I let them know. They had no "do not disturb" placards anywhere that I saw. otherwise I will probably stay again.🌹
